greenrock
i hope Michael, Trevor, Franklin each have there own different melee styles instead of all having the same like niko, johnny and luis from gta

poiuytrew
there are many topics like this you know?
22ka
Square is for kicking, triangle is for head and circl is for body. Hold R1 for grapple. L1 for douge, L2 for blocking. R2 for throwing(when holding)/pushing (when standing). X for taunting. These rnt the actual controls but I wouldn't mind seeing em. Sorry for my spelling I'm tired
73duster
This series is in desperate need of a melee makeover. It's too slow and robotic. Hand to hand combat COULD be more fun than actually shooting people. Throw in some neck snapping and bone breaking, and i could see some outrageous fun. Matty
I'm also hoping that melee is re-worked in GTA V and this will definitely seem to be the case, as Dan Houser has stated as much in the Game Informer preview. Link I don't know if any of you played True Crime: Streets of L.A. (it is a stark contrast to the basic melee combat system of the GTA series), but I would like a melee combat system similar to that in GTA V, but without the upgrading of moves and without the combos. In that, it would be cool when a fight starts between the player and another character, that the camera pans to focus on the player and the other character/s where you can press specific buttons to deliver specific fighting moves - "X" to kick low, "Circle" to grab, "Triangle" to high-kick and "Square" to punch or use what ever melee weapon your holding. Bluepolitician
I assume that because SA had different fighting styles ie. boxing, karate, kickboxing etc... V will be similar. Franklin will have cold hands and Trevor might just try to break your neck.
Durden
I really like what R* said in the GI article about the melee system. In case you forgot, or never read, they basically said that they don't want to put too many resources into it since GTA is more focused on gunplay, but they do want it to feel powerful and fun. Its definately the best it's ever been. ^ That's a quick summary. I like how even though its not a big focus they still want it to feel powerful and fun. I'm expecting some sweet new moves, that are faster and more responsive than IV.
ITSLOCBABY
Yeah they won't completely re-vamp it but it'll be a lot better. The inclusion of a few elbows, knees, chokes, grapples, throws and take-downs would do it for me. Every fight in GTA IV seems like a professional boxing match. It should be a lot dirtier street fighting. GTA IV is all about striking, which is cool when you hit a one punch knock-out but gets boring after a while. Melee is very important for me and I hope they improve it substantially, but I haven't got my hopes up too high. But I'm sure I'll get over it lol
DzNutz
I just hope it's not like RDR's meele system. That's the only bad thing about that game.

Remi749
Of course they will have different animations for Melee, they will probably have different animations for a whole lot of things, like jacking a car, walking, running, fast walk and all that... Rockstargames are not that lame.
Miss Darko
Yeah, I think we can expect different animations for various things, like shooting styles and hand-to-hand combat. The EFLC characters were DLC, which is what I use as the explanation for the recycled animations. This time, they're all in the same game, and being as we can switch between them at any time on a whim, it would be far more noticeable if they all moved in the same way. I also think they will want to put a lot of focus on making each character feel different, so as to broaden the overall experience. Now, I'm not sure if this means that the different styles will actually effect the gameplay, or just be a purely aesthetic thing. I think the melee styles could be very different, and perhaps they walk/jog/run at different speeds (hopefully not too different though, so as not to make the slowest one seem too sluggish) and with significantly different gaits, which can affect the gameplay in certain ways, such as one character having a stronger but slower fighting style while another has a fast and vicious style. I don't expect every animation to be significantly different, but each one has a different body type and even height (Trevor appears to be the tallest and leanest, for instance), which means that they will end up having to tweak each animation slightly to make it work for the character's build, even if they're based on the same 'root' animation. Pegerino
I think the melee system should be like Sleeping dogs it looks kinda good like using the environment around you as an advantage.. But we see in the 2nd trailer where Trevor is banging the guys head in the bar which is a new thing right if its not a cutscene in a mission Another example is that Trevor is jumping on a guy on side of the road and people behind him are reacting while his doing it. wELL I DONT KNOW WHETHER WE ARE ABLE TO DO THIS STUFF WHILE FREE ROAM BUT IT CERTAINLY AN IMPROVEMENT IF WE DO HAVE IT IN THE GAME MY XBOX 360 IS GOING TO EXPLODE WHEN I GET THIS GAME HAHA
