Surprised to see no topic for this...

Spin-off to Metal Gear Solid.

Demo next week!

I will be getting this sometime.

At the start of the game, Raiden is working for the PMCs to raise money for his family, performing multiple tasks such as the training of armies and VIP protection in an unknown African country that is recovering from a previous civil war. However, Raiden encounters an army of cyborgs from Desperado Enterprises, a self-proclaimed PMC that has been involved in various terrorist attacks. The group's operatives kill Raiden's protectee and destroy his cyborg body. Barely managing to survive, Raiden is given a new black cyborg armor that is much more powerful but requires constant recharge. Raiden then starts working for the Colorado-based Maverick Security to defeat Desperado Enterprises. His opportunity for revenge comes a few weeks after his defeat when he learns that Desperado is leading a military coup in Abkhazia. Raiden will also travel to other parts of the world such as Mexico during the story. Throughout his battles, Raiden becomes conflicted with his actions and starts turning into his "Jack The Ripper" persona, eventually having a morally-blurred duel with Samuel Rodriguez at Colorado. Eventually, having been completely overtaken by his Jack the Ripper persona, he abruptly resigns from Maverick and tries to undergo a corporate raid in Denver, Colorado, massacring several DPD cops and Desperado soldiers in the process. Across the story, Raiden "grow as a character and develop as a person".

IS THERE ANY METAL GEAR FANS ON THIS FORUM?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?

I love Metal Gear although Revengeance doesn't make me hyped even one bit. It doesn't feel like a Metal Gear game, not even quite. It just has some returning characters from previous games but that's all. Many people are crazy when they just hear about this game and let it be, but I rather wait for Ground Zeroes.

It's a spin-off.

It's Metal Gear Rising not Metal Gear Solid.

It's not directly related to any of the Metal Gear Solid games.

It shows what happened to Raiden after MGS 2.

It actually takes place 4 years after the events of the fourth title. I've played the demo, it came with Zone Of The Enders HD and it isn't a bad hack and slash, I don't know if it's one I'd pick up straight away but the slashing system is cool although I will admit the parrying takes some getting used to.

It is no where near the quality of a MGS game. I'd put it a little below Assassins Creed on gameplay. Feels kind of similar, but not as good.

I'll wait for Ground Zeroes, I played the demo of this and while it wasn't bad, I'm not really into the hack and slash genre.

Very disappointed with this demo, but after reading some posts above, I didn't know it wasn't a "true" Metal Gear Solid game.

Definitely not my type of game. Will also wait for ground zeros.

The demo was amazing!

I LOVED chopping enemies and trees into a thousand bits. devil.gif

Stop relating it it MGS, it's not MGS.

It's a spin-off.

It has "Metal Gear" in the title.

Ergo, it's a Metal Gear game.

If it's just a generic hack and slash then it doesn't really sound fun.

The game is a one big FAILURE and it doesn't feel like a Metal Gear game AT ALL. Raiden's not Raiden, if you know what I mean.

It's clear from the very first seconds of the demo that Hideo Kojima has literally NOTHING to do with this game. Producer, huh? Bullsh*t.

They really talked up the precision slicing and it really was kinda lame, not to mention if you want to chop up a tree that you just chopped down that's on the ground, you'd better be quick because it disapears in about 10 seconds

So I played the demo and it was f*cking lame.

There's no counter attacks, the animations don't flow smoothly, and the precision slicing was clunky and poorly done. So clunky it wasn't precise in any way, shape or form.

Those were Metal Gear Solid, this is Metal Gear Rising.

Spin-off - Any franchise which was built from the cameo of another franchise.

The demo was actually quite fun for me, I used a bit of stealth aswell as action. cool.gif

  • 3 weeks later...

By that logic Metal Gear Solid has nothing to do with Metal gear, since it has Solid at the end...

Also small bump since this comes out next week. I'll be getting it.

Obviously this has to do with Metal Gear. What most people seem to think however, is that this is a continuation to Metal Gear Solid 4.

This game was leaked a week or so ago. A few of my friends who pirated this game said that its very awesome. Not gonna post any spoilers here. I have never played a Metal Gear game in my life so gonna have to play all of them before this one. This game runs on 60fps with minor drops to 55-50fps sometimes with 360 having a very slight advantage. The cutscenes are definitely better on PS3 as they are a crisp 720p. But on 360, my friend said they look washed out and blurry. If anyone wants to ask something, go ahead. Not gonna spoil anything so don't be afraid.

Gotta admit, that title HASN'T grown on me. What's in a name anyway?

There's a really awkward to use "bullet time" thing where you choose the angle.

There's a free demo, just play that.

On PSN? I don't have access to Xbox Live.

I'm not really a fan of these twitchy hack/slash/blast em ups.

Oh yeah, I forgot MGS was a PS exclusive. Then again, I only bought a PS3 a few months ago. Sons of Liberty is a hard game to find now.

Revengeance is on Xbox, too. Also, MGS and MGS2 were on PC and MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker were on Xbox.

The sword cutting physics are really cool when you get them down, the game itself is quite awkward to get used to at first, I mentioned earlier I played the demo and I wasn't really too sold by it but I'll be getting the title as I review games and do video playthroughs and I'm also a big MG fan.

Basically the sword cutting physics, they work in two ways you have your standard attacks outside of it in which you hold a direction and press the attack button and it'll slash the sword at your enemy, now you have to be careful when fighting there is no dodge or block button to speak of instead it works via a 'parry' system. What this means is you hold the direction the attack is coming from and the attack button at the same time to parry said attack which will block it and give you a window of opportunity.

Now the 'awkward bullet time mode' mentioned is anything but, I can't remember the exact name, let's called it slice mode for sake of ease allows you to fine tune your slices, it zooms in and you pick the direction and number of slices and it allows you to cut whatever into minute chunks. It's very cool when you start to get used to it.

The reason I wasn't sold is because the system, I found at least, was very tricky to get used to and I found the parry system very difficult especially with the boss in the demo, however it rewards practice and patience. It's worth looking at.

I completely agree. the first time I played the demo it was very clunky and difficult. The more I played it the better I got and the more enjoyable its become.

Derp, of course. Wasn't thinking straight. Sorry about that.
