Austerity of Information: R* Games

You know what? It's kind of BS how sparse and infrequent the information on this game has been.

I know Rockstar's excuse "We're just trying to make the game as good as possible, so it takes awhile."

But damnit. It's been 4 and a half years now since GTA IV came out, it took them ONE YEAR to go from releasing the first trailer, to giving us the first info.

It's really kind of CRUEL. Here we are, 2 weeks into the new year, and it's been crickets since Christmas.

I don't know, maybe it is all about making another great game, and how that takes time....

But I kind of get the sense it's a marketing ploy, to create even more anticipation and bring it to a fever pitch, and that makes me mad.

I just get tired of this. Stupid facebook posts about Vice City's 10th anniversary or Max Payne when they know very well what we all really want to hear about.

This has just taken entirely too long. And they need to know, sometimes you build up anticipation so much for a game, that you let people down when it comes out. I'm thinking this game took at least 4 years to make, it's been under wraps for so long, it's probably going to just blow my mind and set all sorts of new precedents, right?

But what if it's just GTA IV with palm trees, in the end? What if Los Santos is this tiny ass city and the countryside is boring, and the side missions and stuff are lame? How are we gonna feel then?

I don't know, Rockstar just needs to treat its fans a little better, I think. Stop depriving us just because you think it will make us more excited and more likely to buy the game. I'm buying the game no matter what. The question is, will it live up to the astronomical expectations that Rockstar has set with their "I can't say too much right now..." approach?

Unless you have rediculously high expectations which aren't physically possible on this generation, then I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Rockstar always get slated for their so called "poor marketing" and "lack of care for fans" ...something which is quite funny considering almost every game they release is regarded as a classic, and their title releases, especially Grand Theft Auto are awaited by not only fans, but the media in general.

You wouldn't expect a fancy restraunt to microwave your meal, they take their time to make something which they are happy to put out..

be patient and it will come

NO.

We got the first screenshots and a Q&A in July.

It did not take them a year! mad.gif

and I am worried about the size of Los Santos. I see the logic in not building it to scale, to not having this huge mess of nothingness to get lost in, but it seems like it's about the size of Liberty City, and it can't be that small. NYC, area wise is TINY compared to LA.

Why is the port of LA next to Santa Monica? Why are there mountains or ocean so close in every direction? How come everything we see in the screenshots is north of, or right at the Santa Monica Freeway, when in real life, there are miles and miles and blocks and blocks of the city south of the Santa Monica Freeway?

Take a look at the Mapping Los Santos thread, it's already been established that the city alone is bigger than the GTA IV map, and the countryside stretches out in almost all directions past the city for miles.

you got a point , but remember GTA is not like any other game , ,,, Ubisoft releases an Assassins creed game every year , now i admit that AC is a great game has a great storyline but nothing beats GTA when it comes to the immersiveness ,,

The immersiveness that Rockstar produces in their GTA series has changed the way people look at videogames , now its more that just a game , GTA gives people an opportunity to add that missing spice in life which no other game does .

Now if you want Rockstar to release half baked unimmersive game , then that wont be really cool . Wait and thou shall be giveth a GTA game which is most genuine and unique .

Do you know what, they don't give a toss whether you think their release of info is sparse. To me that just means more surprises when I actually play the game. If you don't like the way they do things, vote with your wallet (like that's going to happen).

This.

or, go and play an annual release title if you think that the time and money invested in those gives a better product than GTA

Honestly I think Rockstar and Valve are the only two companies I trust enough that it doesn't matter one bit how much hype they put out or how they go about marketing their product, at least in regard to the GTA and Half Life franchises.

I haven't played LC Stories or VC Stories and I never bought Chinatown Wars...but GTA3, VC, SA, IV, and the two DLCs were all bloody well gold.

I trust Rockstar to know how long they need to finish their game, and I trust them not to put it out before it is finished. I wish it were done now...but if they feel they need more time to finish it up, give it to them.

The whole "Shut Up and Take My Money" thing illustrates my thoughts toward them well. They don't need to sell me on the game. I know they're bloody brilliant. Just take my money and tell me when I can pick up my game.

you obviously dont know how Rockstar works..

That's what all these posts essentially are telling me, but actually, I know how R* works all too well.

I do love their games, I am just being impatient, but come on...this is just a pain in the ass "here's some info" 1 month later..."here's 3 or 4 screens" a month later....nothing at all. another month, "here are 3 or 4 screens".

I thought I was going to get my ear chewed off for that comment. Glad there are some patient people left in the world.

I think they planned to withhold much info. The problem for the audience is that it's announced way too early like over 15 months ago. Most likely desperate promotion for MP3.

If it were not for such unusual causes GTA V might have been announced less than 6 months back. Just speculation on my part of course, otherwise I don't get why they'd announce it that early. It doesn't take a year and a half for a new GTA to go viral everywhere. More like a day and a half.

lol.gif I remember being 13 waiting for San Andreas to come out and it seemed like forever, but when it did finally arrive it felt so good to have a game that hadn't been spoilt by constant information being fed to you until you lose the excitement for the game.

I'll be ok once I get the game

It just really sucks now. I am a GTA addict. I need to hear about GTA V everyday, not once every two months.

The way I think about GTA is the way Lenny thinks about tending the rabbits in Of Mice And Men. Whenever I'm in a boring or a sh*tty situation, I say to myself, "George, tell me again, about da GTA V."

"Well Lenny, GTA V is going to take place in Los Santos, which is based on LA. You'll be cruising down the freeways, maybe listening to The Doors....and you can go wherevere you want...you can go to southcentral and kick it with the gangbangers, you can go to Rockford Hills and kick it with the rich people, you can go to Blain County and kick it with the rednecks."

"George, tell me about da size of da map again."

"Well, the map is bigger than GTA IV, San Andreas, AND Red Dead Redemption. Combined."

I'm glad they are so tight lipped. I hate when gaming companies give away too much info. I remember thinking that they over marketed SA back in the day.

Anyways, I think that we have done pretty good. Yes the game has been I development for a long time but you don't start showing it off until its ready. They gave us trailer one as an answer to all the fans asking whether GTA next was in the works.

But the game still was far from ready for a full marketing campaign. The marketing finally started with the GI cover. We got a second trailer and a good intro to the game.

The game is scheduled for a spring release so of the started now it would either over saturate the info or they would run out of things to say a month before the game. And release month should be a big month for marketing.

Expect the info to be fairly steady in February. But I guess that depends on your idea of steady.

I think you should have stopped right there. Give these guys a break, both literally and figuratively speaking here.

Things should pick up again really soon.

Never mind a break, leave them to do their job!

When has a GTA game ever been a disappointment? - and the reason for this is all of the time and energy they put into it, which sometimes means making sacrifices such as not visiting each fan individually to shake their hand and kiss their feet

There is a general/off topic section of the forums.

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showforum=1

But this is actually related to GTA V.

Title says games.

Edit: To those that complain about news/info/marketing strategies. The fact of the matter is at this point everyone at all offices of R* are working 6 or 7 days a week and more than likely 16 hours a day to bring us a game. Info is not at the top of there list, getting the game to the public and released is.

i dont understand? if ur a gta addict and a rockstar fan then you will know this is how they work. EVERY game they bring out has the SAME lack of info.

You will just need to be patient, trust me I FEEL YOUR PAIN. But thers no need to rip into rockstar.

I WOULD RATHER BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR AN AMAZING,BUG FREE GAME

You mean how are they gonna feel when next gen comes out and no one gives a sh*t about GTA anymore, I've already lost patience with Rockstar their so far up their own asses you can probably find Satan himself in there with the Houser bros doing yoga and the gay kamasutra. The game has also already been postponed and if your wondering as to how i know this Take-Two last year said they expected about 60% of around $2 Billion from Rockstar which of course would only be possible with GTA, this estimate has since been dropped to about $1.1 Billion and even now they still don't have a concrete date, f*ck Rockstar i cant f*cking wait till next gen.

'It's taken too long.'

Yet it's just around the corner from release...

Personally I'm relieved Rockstar haven't repeated their mistake of pre-IV release when they discussed and revealed everything. In previews and interviews they went too detailed and revealed far too much, down to the finer details like animations.
