There is no way they would release GTAV with new consoles coming out 5 or 6 months later. I'm sorry but you're wrong. Most likely new consoles will be announced in the near future maybe even before E3. They will be released in Q4 2013. The fact GTA V will be released in spring is because Rockstar is trying to beat Sony/Microsoft to the punch. Since it will most definitly affect sales when a new gen console is announced. You kidding right? It takes more than half a year to get marketing for new consoles running. I doubt we'll see next gen consoles in store before 2014 I just joined because I read that stupid comment lol. The irony of your comment is if you want there to be a GTAVI there pretty much has to be a next gen port of GTAV. At this stage, it's unlikely that PS4's will have backwards compatability and 720's could very well be the same. We'll have to wait for VI to be on next gen. GTA V will be released for both consoles, with improved graphics, and maybe a few adjustments and/or extra's. You may be more right than you know. Except... The rumor I've heard, and I've got reason to believe this is correct, is that Sony have done an exclusivity deal (it'll be timed exclusive of course) and the Orbis (it definitely won't be called PS4 this time around) will get it first. The Orbis version will of course by highly optimized with additional features. I'll eat my hat if this turns out not to be true. Where do you shop for cheap, edible hats? Anyway, the question is not largely about revenue, because GTA is a revenue-generating giant. Anytime Rockstar has to make a decision like this, they're going to evaluate whether the hassle of further development time and marketing is worth a second launch; it's not necessarily a guaranteed pile of cash. Then there's the more nebulous question of integrity. For the most part, Rockstar avoids "double-dipping," I think because it cheapens the product if there's not a suitable impetus to re-release. You may remember they did this with Bully (which was a terrible port) because Bully was a cult game and it launched at the end of the PS2's life cycle. But still, I wouldn't use the past as a perfect guide to Rockstar's future. Virtual distribution changes the game quite a bit, and I certainly wouldn't be surprised if GTA V becomes a download on PS4, whether improved or not. I invest in the new Xbox, I have 100+ games for the 360, and yet MS says sorry, not backwards compatible? Sorry, but thats stupid. The next-gen will play ps3/360 games. Because its surprisingly expensive to implement and the evidence suggests actually most gamers don't really want it. Sony went to a lot of time and hassle making the mk1 PS3 backwards compatible only find most gamers didn't really look back once that had lovely new high definition games in their hands. Sony ditched the extra processing power needed to make the mk1 PS3 backwards compatible when they brought the mk2 out so they could drive down costs. All that being said it may well be easier for them to make the Orbis and Durango backwards compatible than it was last time around so we'll just need to wait and see. Like I said before I think the difference between this and next gen is going to be considerably more blurred, certainly to begin with anyway, than it was last time so we'll just have to wait and see. Bringing GTA out on the next gen consoles is all about giving the game life and attention beyond 6 months or a year. Its not about ripping gamers off making them buy it twice. If it comes out and people love it to death, particularly its multiplayer, it'll simply mean they'll be able to play it on their shiny new console.
