The next Xbox will almost certainly have it, but whether the PS4 will is hard to say.

Unlikey for the same reason the 360 didn't arrive with backwards compatibility. Generally most people aren't interested in it. Apparently Sony massively regretted ploughing so much time and investment into getting the PS3 backwards compatible (it was apparently a nightmare to get working for them) only to ditch the ability as soon as they could to drive down costs. Very few people played PS2 games on the first gen PS3, quite a few didn't end up working anyway.

If its ported to next gen consoles, Ill gladly buy it twice. Rockstar deserves it.

Ported? BS. It will end up like GTA SA and be released in 8 years, of course in the original version without any enhancements. Why? Because people will still buy it. Why spend money on improving an old game when you can sell the same game with no additional costs, you will always find people who buy it.

Ya, exactly. San Andreas came out within a year of 360/PS3 coming out, and they didn't release a current gen version of it. And its still regarded as arguably the best PS2/XBox game ever, as well as sold remarkably well. Won't happen, dude.

That a totally different situation though. San Andreas didn't have any online feature Rockstar had to keep alive and it did have a clear year of sales before the 360 came out (which was a slow burner in terms of take up anyway) The hardware leap into high definition gaming also would have made an optimised port of San Andreas technically a lot harder. The hardware leap between last gen and this gen was a lot more profound than its going to initially appear this time around where we're not suddenly into the era of high definition.

There's a whole host of reasons (see my post earlier) that make it much more logical and inevitable for Rockstar to make GTAV a cross generation game. None of those reasons can be applied to them making San Andreas a cross generation game.

The gap between this gen and next gen is going to be a lot more blurred than it was last time. People are already saying games like the Last of Us and Watch Dogs look more like next gen titles. Pretty much because in some senses they are.

So GTA V is around the corner for Playstation 3 and XBox 360.

It will be released within 4 months, and I predict that after that, this will happen:

Playstation 4 and Xbox 8 or 720 will be released at the end of the year.

GTA V will be released for both consoles, with improved graphics, and maybe a few adjustments and/or extra's.

This way, when everyone has alread purchased the game, but with better graphics, a lot of people will buy it again for a next gen console, they will make a lot of money for this game!

And if that's not enought, half a year later, there will be a PC version so people will buy it for the 3rd time!

Now you might say that you would never buy GTA V 3 times...

But think about it, you want GTA V this spring, not knowing that it will come for next gen console as well.

You want the hughly improved graphics on next gen console, you're not sure if there's going to be a PC version, or you don't know how long it will be before the game is released on PC, so you buy GTA V for next gen anyway.

And you want to mod the hell out of this game when it comes to PC! (with even better graphics!?)

I see a good chance that this will happen.

And me not being a PC gamer, I will never buy it for PC, but I will get GTA V for a next gen console if it's possible!

I don't know about the PS4 but I seriously believe the X720 will come out this November, the Xbox and Xbox360 where both launch in November. Eitherway, I may be wrong, but this november or next year november will see the X720.

For those who will invest in the next-gen console when it comes out, and have purchased GTA V and other titles on there 360, your games will run on the new console. I truly believe the Xbox 720 will play 360 games, and by doing so the games will be upscaled. What blu-ray does of DVD, the 720 will do the same.

I think the X720 will be a PC/Console hybrid. biggrin.gif

Ok let's analyze all this sort of Michael Pachter predictions base on a financial perspective and speculation.

You guys think that a game created for this generation will be "re-created" to the new generation, in other words the game will be ported? Ok let's take the example of GTAIV for PC, an inferior version was tweaked to be used in a system with more capabilities, it looked far superior in graphic terms no doubt, but was processed like crap.

So you're expecting them to grab a game that was coded in 3 cores, low speed CPU's and low speed/ capacity memory to be "adapted" to a new console generation? That's like changing the engine of a Ferrari to the engine of a FIAT, it looks cute in the outside but the performance is awful.

In case there is a PC version made for the PC and not another lame port, they cant use that either for those consoles, I mean they can but it will take a lot of work to do so, without the fact that many companies that want to unleash the full power Cryengine 3, Unreal Engine 4 and some others already said they are disappointed with the capabilities the new Gen of consoles will have. In fact some of them said that those consoles will be outdated already soon as they are released. But this happens for a reason, in order to make them better they would be a lot more expensive, so they need to tweak them to a limit.

In other words, porting a game like GTAV to a new console generation that will have a very, very small market base in the first years will be just a waste of money and resources for Rockstar, and for sure they will rather invest that time and money working in the next engine/ game properly coded to the new generation. They will be busy enough with all the online maintenance and eventual patches and fixes in the months after the release.

In terms of market I don't see any advantage in doing this, and I'm sure Rockstar think the same way... unless they were already doing it for some time, but that I doubt, the Wii U version is "up for consideration" which means "if they pay us a nice amount of money to do it" and if they do it won't be so hard to port, that console isn't much better then the current gen.

OP, you're missing the point of V: to take full advantage of the current gen's hardware. I doubt a GTA V port for next gen will be made anytime soon, if at all.

Showtime: PS4 rumoured at 1.84TF, Xbox 720 at 1.23TF

Here we go. VG247 has been told that PlayStation 4 has a 50% raw power advantage over Xbox 720, based on information out of CES.

If true, these numbers mean PlayStation 4 will have a 50% raw, computational power advantage over Xbox 720.

If latest rumours regarding next generation hardware are to be believed, the next PlayStation is to be significantly more powerful that the next Xbox.

Developer sources, speaking after meetings at CES, have told VG247 that the next PlayStation, codenamed Orbis, will have a run-capability of 1.84 teraflops. Conversely, the next Xbox, codenamed Durango, will be able to achieve 1.23 teraflops.

If true, these numbers mean PlayStation 4 will have a 50% raw, computational power advantage over Xbox 720.

While PS4 will have greater grunt that 720, however, the Microsoft machine has significantly more RAM at 8Gb, we’ve been told. Our source said that 3Gb is reserved for the OS, apps and security, leaving 4-5Gb for games.

Orbis will have 4Gb of RAM, said our source, of which 1Gb will be reserved for for OS, security and apps, leaving some 3Gb for games.

Both machines will supposedly have have the ability to read 100Gb Blu-ray discs.

Durango is apparently based on the Radeon HD 8770 GPU.

PlayStation 4 has been previously rumoured to be built on AMD’s A10 APU.

It was recently claimed that the two machines are to be announced in late March. It’s widely assumed that both consoles will launch in November this year.

VG247 is under the impression that several media outlets are in possession of documents related to Durango from CES and are currently working on major leak stories.

GTA V will only release for the current console generation which is what I pointed out in this thread before. The first Rockstar title that will release for XBox Durango and/or PlayStation Orbis is going to be a new, fresh title and not a title that is ported from the past console generation. GTA San Andreas was released in October 2004 for PlayStation 2 and in June 2005 for XBox and PC. In case you don't know, XBox 360 was released in November 2005 and PlayStation 3 was released in November 2006. As you can see, San Andreas was released near the new consoles, yet it was never ported to them. Honestly, I am certain that GTA V will only release for three systems, namely X360, PS3 and PC. No next generations consoles, no Wii U, no PS Vita or anything. And before a debate about a possible GTA V release for the Wii U starts, I want to point out that Strauss Zelnick claimed in June 2012 that he is sceptical when it comes to core-titles for the Wii U. As you know, Grand Theft Auto is a core title and a release for Wii U seems to be very unlikely. Yeah, Dan Houser recently said that everything is up for consideration but that was just a way to avoid an exact answer of the question.

I would say a next gen release is not gonna happen.

There's only a couple of ways I could see GTA:V on next gen.

  1. If Rockstar were to design it up front to run on next gen console as well as this gen. If the next gen consoles are slated for later this year, there's a good chance that devs like Rockstar will already have dev kits. Because nothing will kill a console faster than having no software for it on launch day. For that reason MS and Sony would have to lock down the principle specifications of their new products as early as possible in order to give developers the maximum amount of time to write titles for day one of release. That being the case, you could probably expect Rockstar to try on GTA:V on the dev kit test platforms to at least make sure that the game is forward compatible even if only to a limited degree. The logical extension would be to perhaps apply some rudimentary enhancements.
  2. The other way would be for Rockstar to launch a next gen edition of GTA:V and include some exclusive additional content. This might be made more possible if either MS or Sony were to subsidize it in exchange for next gen platform exclusivity. So the additional content invites double dipping and the exclusivity deal offsets the additional development costs. Evil, or what?
But that's only how it might be made theoretically possible. There's a long way to go between these theories and it actually happening.

Not going to happen. San Andreas came at the end of the last console gen and it never got updated versions.

PC version? Sure, probably sometime near the end of this year. But 720/PS4? Nah.

Not happening. Rockstar is not the kind of developer to waste resources and time porting a game to a new generation of machines for a small profit.

However as soon as GTA V releases I am sure they will start working on a new GTA for the new machines, but that's likely not to release in the near future, perhaps in 5 years time.

People who think GTAV will only come out on current generation hardware are going to have to be content with the fact that GTAV for all the time, money and effort Rockstar have put into making it will end up having the shortest shelf life of any Rockstar game thus far. Do you really think Rockstar are going to let that happen? Whats going on just today with the gaming world being abuzz with news of the next gen consoles is a good example of what's going to happen in the coming months. Excitement is going reach fever pitch come April and May time with news of the nex gen systems and right in the middle of that Rockstar are going to fight for attention with the release of their biggest and most ambitious game to date.

Contrary to what some people here think pick up the next gen hardware is going to be a lot faster than it was last time. Both consoles will hit the market for around the £300 mark (around $500) and they will be released much closer together and they will fly off the shelves later this year. GTAV is going to be an old last gen game very quickly. For all the huge effort Rockstar have put into its massive online world people's gaming attention is going to be well and truly else where. Its crazy to think Rockstar won't keep it going on next gen consoles. Rockstar pretty much can't afford to not port it.

Poeple may well say a next gen port is technically a really difficult thing to do and they're right. But its not an impossible thing to do and Rockstar clearly have the resources, and as I've just said they have a major reason, to make it happen. Anyway if other developers are doing cross generation ports like Ubisoft sound like they're doing with Watch Dogs (a genuine GTA killer if its as good as its being made out to be) then it clearly is very possible.

San Andreas is not a good example of why Rockstar won't port GTAV. San Andreas had no online to support and San Andreas pretty much had free reign in a much less competitive gaming market to sell sh*t loads in the year following release. The shift in generations was also staggered, pick up of the consoles was obviously going to be slower as a result. The technical shift in the consoles was also more profound. Anyone who's played San Andreas in high definition can tell you the medium does the game no favours.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Most likely new consoles will be announced in the near future maybe even before E3. They will be released in Q4 2013. The fact GTA V will be released in spring is because Rockstar is trying to beat Sony/Microsoft to the punch. Since it will most definitly affect sales when a new gen console is announced.

You kidding right? It takes more than half a year to get marketing for new consoles running. I doubt we'll see next gen consoles in store before 2014

It was rumoured back in November that the new XBox from Microsoft is going to be announced in March and recently Game Informer claimed that Sony will announce the new PlayStation on a press conference, also in March. According to some rumours, the new XBox will release in November this year and Sony is not going to wait that long like last time, hell, it could be even simultaneously this time! I think eight months of promotion is enough, I mean after some time people will be only tired of the wait after the announcement and I heard it quite often that everything will go faster this time and a lot of people would love this. I don't think that it's that absurd but anyway, we will see it and this could be an interesting year for the videogame industry!

There won't be a massively long wait between the announcement and the arrival of the consoles. Apple have long since re-written the marketing rule book when it comes to this. People now expect things very quickly after any announcement.

I just joined because I read that stupid comment lol. I didn't even know about the wii u, I seen the announcement then bam couple months it was out. If they announce it in march or may it's still will have enough marketing to be out by november. The hype has been building since last year.

I don't thing that GTA V will be released for next gen consoles after they arrive. There is just no point to develop a game for current gen and 6 months - 1 year port it to next gen. But maybe some years later it will be ported as PS3 and 360 classic. cool.gif

houser claimed the multiplayer will be revolutionary why not continue it on next consoles. At the end of the day it's a buisness and companies want YOU to play they're games. R* won't be dropping another title for a while. Porting it won't seem like any problem, but I think it will be a digital download.

Well there is if you want people to keep playing it. Or are you quite happy for GTAV to be last gen game within six months with everyone having moved on to shiny new games? GTAV is going to be very old very quickly if they don't port it.

When earlier PS and Xbox consoles were announced and released.

The final version of the PS1 took roughly 6 months to finish. Unclear of the exact date it was announced.

PS2: 12 months after it was announced, after 19 months it came out in Europe

PS3: 9 months after announcement in Europe, 6 months for Japan.

Xbox: Unveiled in 2000, released at end of 2001 in North America and the rest during 2002.

Xbox 360: Conceived in early 2003, released during 2005.

If Xbox 720 or PS4 is announced at E3 this year, what makes you think it will release during 2013? If anything At the absolute very best, it might release in Japan late 2013.

Edit:

For teh lulz,

Wii U: First seen on April 25, 2011. Released in late 2012.
