The reason I am interested in the nextgen is this.

 

I've been waiting for it since the beginning of 2010. We are playing on hardware from 2005. 360 2005 PS3 2006.

When they came out, they where not even that great.

 

I have a high end PC, but I enjoy my consoles also.

 

A console generation usually lasts for 5 to 6 years.

First, what makes you think that the next gen of consoles will release anytime soon? Those consoles creator didn't say anything about them... All this is purely speculations.

People here need to take rumors with a grain of salt. They've been saying next gen console will release for some time now. Sony and Microsoft certainly want to beat each other to the punch with the release of a new console, but neither is that anxious to release them. The PS3 and 360 console bases are huge now. This means game sales are also huge, and Sony and Microsoft are both getting a cut from each game sold to this huge console base. Why would they rush to push out new consoles so they can sell even less games, when it is games (not consoles) that make them the most money? Believe me, they want to milk the PS3/360 for everything they're worth.

 

I wouldn't expect next gen consoles to be announced until this year's E3 at the earliest, followed by a release sometime in 2014. There will be no fancy GTA V port... at best you'll be able to get a digital download of GTA III through V on Durango/Orbis.

I love how Sony always has that 10-year policy for their games... Yeah right, like that's ever gonna happen. If they wanna lose the war to Microsoft, then they will stay true to their word. Otherwise, they will release the PS4 this year.

Idk about you guys but I wouldn't even be in a rush to get a next gen console. Besides all of the great games are being made now that developers know the limits of the consoles, so there will be wonderful games made even after the next gen consoles are out.

 

Besides, I still need to get more platinum trophies! But honestly the earliest I can see myself getting a new console is a year after it releases. By then, there will be a price drop, more games, and maybe new, better versions.

 

But I really cannot see R* improving GTAV into next gen, I can however see them release it on the Live marketplace and the PS Store.

All I'm seeing is Ubisoft registering a new Trademark (Not proof of next-gen), Developers discussing what they want out of the next-gen, some rumor which I've read before and some story about the original Xbox.

90% of the big companies have talked, hired people for next generation consoles.

Sony has also stated in an interview that have been working on the PS4 for a while, but due to the secrecy they are not going to talk about it until it's ready. (this was last year)

Hiroshi Sakamoto, a Sony executive from another division, said in an interview with a Chilean news site that a reveal announcement for the next PlayStation console, codenamed PlayStation Orbis, could take place at E3 or even earlier, in May.

 

Well, in my opinion we will see next generation of consoles this year. Q4 2013 and possibly Q1 2014 if delayed.

I'm basing my guess of the industries leaks yes, and there where A LOT of info I did not include on my blog.

Dev kits for next-gen consoles have been out there for a while aswell.

 

There is a reason you don't know of any good Microsoft or Sony exclusives to be released this fall. Simply because the generation is going towards the end, and all the upcoming games are due to be announced within the next 6 months. That's what I'm thinkin.

 

Januray to May, is usually when all the new titles are revealed. Pre-E3, and then they do blow outs on E3.

 

There is simply to much "Evidence" out which points towards this being the year of next-gen blowout.

The industry is more than ready for new systems, I often read of CEO's complaining about how long this gen has been. How it messes up for several things. Such as innovation, and companies not willing to take risks.

 

Although we might not be able to see the PS4 in February. These guys might.

Unless there are serious manufacturing difficulties we will 100% definitely see at least one next gen console this year, the next Xbox by the looks of things. Personally I don't think Sony will be far behind if behind at all.

Cross generation indeed, it's very common to see the most populare multiplatform games go Crossplatform when a new platform is released.

I remember seing the same thing happend back in 06.

 

There are so many games that has been showed during the last year that are most likely coming out on both platforms.

Watch dogs is one of them.

 

I have a strong feeling MGS Ground Zeroes, Phantom Pain where just trailers ment to confuse the audience, and actually lead to a MGS 5 reveal.

 

Kojima has been hiring for the next GEN MGS for ages, and Phantom pain had MGS written all over it. Project Ogre ...

 

Destiny from Bungie might be current and next gen.

 

The only thing I know for sure, is that Activition will announce a new call of duty for this fall. in april or may. Which I also believe will be Crossplatform.

 

For most people, GTA V is the only big game coming out this year. Not counting Bioshock, God of War, Last of Us ect ect. Sony and Microsoft needs to hurry up. We are all waiting.

Maybe so, but as I said in a previous post, it isn't refined to take advantage of the newer hardware. It is still in a top down perspective - much the same as its counterparts released on the preceding consoles.

 

Yes, GTA's have been released on consoles over multiple generations, but no individual GTA game released on consoles from two separate generations is refined to take advantage of the newer hardware. That is the point I am (or was) trying to make.

For all we know, it could be released digitally on these new platforms. We don't know the arcitecture of the platform, so it's hard to say.

It's an estimate; as all release dates are, when given by retailers. Nobody will reveal a release date apart from Rockstar themselves.

As such, I couldn't see GTA V refined and released to the next gen consoles.

So GTA V is around the corner for Playstation 3 and XBox 360.

It will be released within 4 months, and I predict that after that, this will happen:

 

Playstation 4 and Xbox 8 or 720 will be released at the end of the year.

GTA V will be released for both consoles, with improved graphics, and maybe a few adjustments and/or extra's.

 

This way, when everyone has alread purchased the game, but with better graphics, a lot of people will buy it again for a next gen console, they will make a lot of money for this game!

 

And if that's not enought, half a year later, there will be a PC version so people will buy it for the 3rd time!

 

 

Now you might say that you would never buy GTA V 3 times...

But think about it, you want GTA V this spring, not knowing that it will come for next gen console as well.

You want the hughly improved graphics on next gen console, you're not sure if there's going to be a PC version, or you don't know how long it will be before the game is released on PC, so you buy GTA V for next gen anyway.

And you want to mod the hell out of this game when it comes to PC! (with even better graphics!?)

 

 

I see a good chance that this will happen.

And me not being a PC gamer, I will never buy it for PC, but I will get GTA V for a next gen console if it's possible!

If the next gen consoles are announced at E3 this year which is almost 100% definitely going to happen then there's no way at least one of them will wait until 2014 to release it. Microsoft look almost certain to release this year and most people don't think Sony will be far behind. 6 months at the most I would say. By May 2014 both consoles will be out. Personally I think both will be out by the end of this year. It'll be a head on battle this time around.

 

GTAV on the next gen consoles willl be highly optimised for two reasons. Firstly there has to be a reason for gamers to want to buy it all over again. There has to be an incentive over and above it having a little bit of exclusive extra content.

 

Secondly its inevitable it will be highly optimised. Its fairly obvious to most people GTAV will be released on the PC at some point in the next year (Rockstar just aren't going to release their biggest and most expensive to produce game on two consoles and stop there) The PC version will obviously be optimised to take advantage of the extra power available. Most people are now pretty much certain both Microsoft and Sony are going to use off the shelf parts for the two next gen consoles making them essentially just high PC's in nice shiny boxes. Therefore the optimised PC port of GTAV should be relatively easy to then port to the two next gen consoles.

 

And the other point I'll make is if Rockstar don't do a next gen port of the game then GTAV will have a very short shelf life and Rockstar just aren't going to let that happen. They're still holding triple XP weekends and multiplayer events for GTAIV and RDR years after both those games came out. They will want the same to happen for GTAV and the only way they can guarantee that happening beyond 18 months at the most is to continue GTAV's lifespan on the two next gen consoles. GTAV will have a very long shelf life I think.

I think the only way that GTA V will appear on the next-gen consoles in the next few years is if the new consoles have backwards compatibility. R* will most likely want to put their effort into developing new games, especially if they want to keep up their pattern of releasing a game a year.
