initium
So GTA V is around the corner for Playstation 3 and XBox 360. It will be released within 4 months, and I predict that after that, this will happen: Playstation 4 and Xbox 8 or 720 will be released at the end of the year. GTA V will be released for both consoles, with improved graphics, and maybe a few adjustments and/or extra's. This way, when everyone has alread purchased the game, but with better graphics, a lot of people will buy it again for a next gen console, they will make a lot of money for this game! And if that's not enought, half a year later, there will be a PC version so people will buy it for the 3rd time! Now you might say that you would never buy GTA V 3 times... But think about it, you want GTA V this spring, not knowing that it will come for next gen console as well. You want the hughly improved graphics on next gen console, you're not sure if there's going to be a PC version, or you don't know how long it will be before the game is released on PC, so you buy GTA V for next gen anyway. And you want to mod the hell out of this game when it comes to PC! (with even better graphics!?) I see a good chance that this will happen. And me not being a PC gamer, I will never buy it for PC, but I will get GTA V for a next gen console if it's possible!

Red XIII
your predictions are wrong, the earliest next-gen consoles with be available is mid-next year. There is no way they would release GTAV with new consoles coming out 5 or 6 months later.
TrantaLocked
If rumors are true that the upcoming consoles will be like regular consumer computers (AMD x86 processors, AMD HD 8000 GPUs) then all Rockstar will have to do to port the game to the next generation would be to optimize the supposed PC version code for the new consoles. Red XIII, your logic is seriously flawed. Do you think Sony and Microsoft are saying: "Oh no, GTA V is releasing soon, we must delay the release of the consoles or else GTA V won't sell! nevermind the fact that tens if not hundreds of millions of people own current gen consoles! Because once we release the new generation, the last generation will be completely obsolete to every gamer and then GTA V won't sell!" Furthermore, you cannot think Rockstar is saying: "Oh no, new consoles are coming out soon! We must halt current production and shift everything for the new consoles! Once the new consoles are released, all of the current gen gamers will feel obsolete and not buy GTA V for their PS3s or Xbox 360s!" And this is the latest leak-rumor: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=507910 The most current rumor is that the consoles will be released Q4 this year. Why doubt it? Announce at E3, build up hype, release 5 months later, sell tons of consoles for the holiday season. There is no way they would release GTAV with new consoles coming out 5 or 6 months later. I'm sorry but you're wrong. Most likely new consoles will be announced in the near future maybe even before E3. They will be released in Q4 2013. The fact GTA V will be released in spring is because Rockstar is trying to beat Sony/Microsoft to the punch. Since it will most definitly affect sales when a new gen console is announced. Matty
GTA is not the type of game that is going to appear on two generations of consoles. It is going to be PS3, 360 and eventually PC. Exactly. No GTA game ever has been released on two generations of consoles, why would they start now? Even if the new consoles were to be released this year (which I find highly unlikely, personally). Trund
If its ported to next gen consoles, Ill gladly buy it twice. Rockstar deserves it. Ported? BS. It will end up like GTA SA and be released in 8 years, of course in the original version without any enhancements. Why? Because people will still buy it. Why spend money on improving an old game when you can sell the same game with no additional costs, you will always find people who buy it.
TrantaLocked
Guys remember that the new consoles are rumored to have normal AMD processors, meaning all Rockstar has to do is optimize the PC version for AMD CPUs and release it on the new consoles. It wouldn't be that much work.

Porting a game costs tons of money, not to mention all the extra costs, like marketing etc. R* would have absolutely NO reason to do this. Selling a game two platforms that together sold 180 million units is good enough for them, they won't "try" to make the game sell on a new platform, not GTA V at least. There are also other games that R* is going to develop. Why in the world would they only focuse on GTA V? After it's released that game is done for them (besides the DLC), but I'm 99% sure that there will be no port. To the PS4, I doubt it will be called Orbis. Why? Because PlayStation is a widely known name. It would be completely ridiculous and stupid to change the name of a system. PS4 is what it will be. This reminds me of the boomerang controller for the PS3, everyone loved the DS controller, hence why Sony ended up going back to it, because people KNOW it. My understanding of it is the game is being developed for the Playsation Orbis (it won't be called PS4 because 4 is an unlucky number in Japan, the Japanese are hugely superstitious, lots of buildings in Japan don't even have a 4th floor) It'll either be called PS Orbis or just plain old Playstation from what I've been told) in conjunction with the current generation consoles. They don't really need to focus on much and it certainly isn't costing them a fortune to do the port. Incidentally R* aren't the only studio who are going to do this. The Last of Us, Watch Dogs, and possibly others going to be highly optimized cross generation games.

For one, the next gen would give them more headroom to do more of what they may have been forced to cut back for the current gen. Second, GTA=$. More GTA games=more $. Simple concept. If GTA V is ported to the next gen, it would then sell more and make Rockstar more money.
