To all those with location-based excitement issues... just think of LA Noire. The city was lusciously recreated and completely dead. Location isn't everything... just don't tell Kirsty Alsop that!

I was excited for GTAIV but am more so for GTAV because from all the HouserTalk it seems that they've taken the community's feelings on board regarding the lower points of GTAIV. Gotta be good!

actually to tell you the truth... i wasn't THAT excited for GTA IV

mainly because i don't like liberty city that much, i was like "oh liberty city"

but i love los santos

so GTA V is definitely the most anticipated game of all time for me, half life 3 is the only game (potential game) that rivals it

I'm even more excited, didn't go through IV's marketing, things were better back then. All this waiting is horrible especially since I'm a PC gamer.

I really excited for GTA IV.

Then it released and I was like WOW...

Then I heard about GTA V.

To say the least, my excitement level for GTA V required me to get all new electronics and bleach my wall etc.

EDIT.

Honestly I'm not. Like GTA V looks amazing, looks way better then IV. But back when I was waiting for IV I was thinking about it from the time I woke till I went to bed. Hell, I even dreamed about it for months before it was actually released. It was kind of like being high for months on end waiting for IV couldn't focus in school my grades dropped a bunch. Now V is almost on our doorstep and I am hardly phased of its existence unless I am on the computer. How about you guys?

This for me.

rockstars silence has annoyed me and 5 years for V compared to the other gta's is to long, V is going to be sick but im hoping its special just like SA i was never that hyped about IV as its based in a concrete jungle

Not really. I'm 21 years old now, I think I am past the stage where I'd be willing to put my personal life on hold to drool over a game. When it comes out I'll buy it, but until then I'll just focus on everything else.

Considering 90% of this board was 7 when GTA IV came out, I call shenanigans on this poll.

EDIT: Sorry about the essay. Got a little carried away. Should be an interesting read, though.

I don't think I feel more or less excited than I did at the time I was waiting for GTA IV, but rather I feel... different. Allow me to explain. GTA IV was the first of this console generation. I was pretty new to it, and enjoyed thinking about what was in store for this new installment on completely new hardware. Now I'll admit, I'm pretty young now, only been old enough to buy M-rated games on my own since a couple years ago, so I was 13-14 at the time. My excitement was a lot less contained, and I pored over information, screenshots, all of the given promotional material (of which there was quite a bit, in comparison). I wasn't able to get it on day one; I didn't get it until a couple months later on my birthday, so during that time I also watched other people's gameplay videos. Kind of dulled my experience with the game, unfortunately.

What was interesting for me as well was the transition in tone. Being a pretty young fan of GTA, my primary experience was with San Andreas. I played GTA III (skipped Vice City, I'm afraid) on the PC beforehand (we messed with character and weapon skins like hell, too), but yeah, I was of course even younger and didn't really bother with the story or anything, and I can't say I know what even happened to that copy of the game (I've since watched playthroughs for both III and Vice City to see the stories). San Andreas was the first one where I played through the story consistently and played all the time in general. It defined my GTA experience, really.

So here came GTA IV's first trailer, and immediately it's something very different and even unexpected. Dramatic music, a thoughtful monologue. Well, it took me by surprise. I didn't think of GTA as being something like this. And I was sold. I remembered Liberty City from my childhood, and while it was different, it was interesting to return to that vibe. Of course stuff came which disappointed me a bit. Less weapons, less vehicle variety, smaller map... I managed to focus on what was being improved, though. I did kind of like the idea of focusing on one huge city that was bigger than any of the previous cities, as much as I love countryside. Again, it was something relatively new for me. And seeing the game in action really awed me in ways I wouldn't expect GTA V to, because now I'm used to it. It really was pretty amazing; I still feel that way.

So this time around, things are different. We are experiencing an equally radical change in location and tone, which is exciting me like it did with GTA IV. I'm looking forward to sunny Southern San Andreas, going to an area with a similar but different vibe to the GTA that was the GTA for me. What's exciting for me about GTA V is that it's taking my favorite elements of both of those games, as well as RDR which I came to love even more than GTA IV, and putting it all into one game, while also adding a huge map and lots of vehicles and (I'd presume, given all of the other elements of this game) lots of weapons, as well as completely new features for R* like the multiple protagonists we can switch between on a whim and wildlife in a modern setting, with more attention to detail placed on every aspect of the game than ever before.

So while my excitement for GTA IV was based on its potential as a new generation of GTA, my excitement for GTA V is based on its content and what I know it holds in store. I think that it's a more grounded excitement, based on weighing the various facts I know about the game, adding it all up and really, really liking the result. But I spend just as much time thinking about it and eagerly anticipating its release as I did with GTA IV. And hell, I never joined GTAForums until this time around. I don't think I even skimmed through it as a unregistered user, so I never discussed GTA IV like I do with GTA V. However, I am going to be far more conservative with the marketing material I digest with GTA V. After the release date is revealed, I plan on shutting off on GTA V almost completely. I don't really want to learn any more about it, or even see the map. So I can control myself better than last time. Part of it may be related to being more mature, but I also think it partly has to do with the nature of the game as well.

Overall, it's shaping up to have been an interesting wait. And it's the first time that I've shared it with so many like-minded individuals. I feel like I'm part of a community this time, all waiting for the same thing, and that's probably one of the biggest differences. I'm just glad that it finally feels like we're getting there.

I got very excited for GTAIV in the final few weeks before it was released. Before then, I never even knew it was delayed, but I do remember staying up late to see the first trailer and how it took forever to watch it on the R* website due to the internet traffic. It has been my most favourite game since.

When GTAV was announced, however, I was so excited. Then when the first trailer came out I was ecstatic. Since then, I've been keeping up with any news abut GTAV, searching it on google once a day and getting all enthusiastic when a piece of information appears on the Rockstar Newswire.

Considering I don't play a lot of games now, this is the only video game I think about.

Plus, it doesn't help that I walk past Rockstar North every weekday going to work!

Now that's gotta be an interesting experience. Knowing that the object of your anticipation is cooking up in there... so close yet behind closed doors.

For GTA IV I was super excited, it was great. But for some reason when it comes to GTA V i'm just like "meh".

I considered myself to be a massive GTA fan, but I guess maybe i'm not anymore. I don't know why i'm not hyped for it (probably because now i'm a PC gamer, and R* aren't releasing it on PC?) I was hyped awhile after trailer one but since then I haven't really been interested in any games.

When GTA IV came out I would have been 13 or 14.

Also, the image in the post above me looks like a Photoshop job too....

I was actually of legal age to buy GTA 1 when it originally came out. God I'm old & on this site, I'm positively ancient.
