If they are able to hang out with each other outside of missions(which they are) then they can be friends, its up to the player.

 

You didnt get the option to hang out with tenpenny though, did you?

 

 

And lastly, every story in GTA has contradictions, just like how Niko wanted to be a better person and sort his life out, yet outside of the story he goes on rampages and steals cars.

In-game actions in open gameplay do not contradict to internal storyline itself. It doesn't matter what you do outside on missions does not affect the storyline, storyline missions do. Let's take for example Little Jacob, he's an interactive friend and you can kill him outside missions (only an option), yet he will still be alive and you can still find him in later missions.

 

You can't do the scripting/changing of the storyline because 'they' program them to do so.

I personally believe Michael will be the cause of most problems. He strikes me as manipulative, which also explains the "best friend, son I never wanted" speech. He needs Franklin and Trevor to get along so that he can use their abilities to rob banks and such. He's using them. I've been waiting for a true Machievellian Walter White-esque character in GTA for a while.

It's stunning how f*cking stupid a large portion of this forum's members are when they take the Trevor and Michael being best friends, and Michael and Franklin being like father and son part seriously. Either their sarcasm detector's destroyed, they're just incredibly f*cking stupid, or what's most likely, both. And for those that happen to read this, I would estimate that's about half of you;

God knows how you are not banned yet. You never seem to have anything positive to contribute. You really thing that in a 25+ hour story, R* isn't going to develop any form of a friendship between these characters? If that's what you really think, then I'm afraid you are the stupid one. The scene with all three near the end of trailer 2 might have been on the sarcastic side, but that hardly speaks for the entire game (that moment is the first time all three are together).

I know, just using that figure as a minimum, as it probably wont be any shorter than that
