MythicalNomad
Hey guys, I'm looking to overclock my computer. Whilst I can do that easily in the BIOS, I was just wondering if I could overclock it so that different games run at different clock speeds. For instance, I want to run All Points Bulletin at 3.9GHz, whilst running Skyrim at 4.2GHz without having to access the BIOS each time. Is there a program that will let me do that? APB tends to run at higher temperatures because there's more action on-screen. Skyrim on the other hand doesn't seem to utilize the CPU as well as other games, so I'm happy to overclock it further as the temperature is lower. I have an i5, and my motherboard lets me configure this mode where it will run at standard 3.4GHz until I'm running a game, to which it will go to 3.7GHz. I want to do the same, so that it's not always overclocked until I'm playing a game. Thanks in advance, it is much appreciated.
sivispacem
Some boards allow you to do software overclocks, but they're notoriously unreliable. Why don't you just settle for the highest stable clock speed you can manage and use that for everything? MythicalNomad
Well I have an Intel i5 2550k, and I'm really worried to overclock it because I use my PC almost every day for PC gaming, so I wouldn't want to stress it too much. What sort of temperatures would be acceptable when overclocking? When playing APB at 4.0GHz, I'm getting between 50C and 60C. Is that safe? I really wouldn't want to get it past the 60 mark. Whiskey
60C is fine. My i5 2500k is at 4.0Ghz and it runs perfectly fine.
yoječ
You wouldn't have to worry even if the temps exceeded 70C. Voltages are far more important factor if you are concerned about CPUs lifespan.
Stinky12
Change the mobo to a Asus Maximus V Extreme. It comes with a OCKey that lets you overclock directly through the bios even when your in Windows.
