Like I said, basically the same land mass-wise.

Even of its the same size as IV or a little smaller its still an entirely new city to explore plus all the other sh*t around it. Nobody should be disappointed.

I agree on this. i know it will be amazing i was just hoping for a more bigger city experience.I agree with other op,s that its going to be a brand new city to explore and if rockstar nail the "activitys" then size( in a way) could be irrelevant

GTA V map will be at least 2x the size of Liberty City, or maybe 3x. Rockstar confirmed the size of the map. bigger than SA, RDR and IV combined.

I'm pretty sure 2x the size of liberty city isn't the same size as rdr,san andreas and gta 4 combined

You can go here to get more information on the map size compared to Liberty City. I cant remember the exact words from the GI article (or even if it was the GI article) but Los Santos is a bit smaller than Liberty City if its compressed. I might re-read the article and confirm this later.

Los Santos is jusy as big. It's downtown LS that's smaller than downtown LC.

Same size. Just the city of V will be as big as ALL of IV. Then there's the country, mountains, underwater, etc.

This is what i mean though. i hope that its BIGGER than the whole of gta iv before we start going to the country and adjoining towns

Then you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

i don't think that it will be at all smaller, i think if it's an accurate representation, the slum areas we've seen little of will be a very large part of the city, as for the sprawling nature being captured without it being a sprawl, i think that moe syzlak summed it up best when asked what he thought of the city "it's a hell of a place, it's like someone stepped on new york and scrapped it off on a beach"

I really just want to smack the buffoon who worded it like that:

"Downtown LS is smaller than LC"

That's just a retarded way to say it. I'm about 99% sure the articles author was referring to density.

He should have put in "downtown los santos is obviously less dense than liberty city, however the city itself is roughly the size of liberty city"

Seriously, who the hell thought saying the original line would work? It only caused confusion among some readers.

Yeah, thats what it said. I was going through the article (which I saved out of order for some reason) but couldnt find that. It did say that downtown LS is smaller than downtown LC, which should have been obvious. Something else said that LS is maybe just a bit smaller than LC.

Just by viewing the images, LS seems to be quite small downtown wise, but goes on quite a far distance with smaller houses. Still, its quite small because we saw the main borders of the city pretty much in one image. That tells me the city will be aprox. half of liberty city...thats by my observation.

This city itself is probably the same size. and you shouldn't be disappointed at all. Liberty City was HUGE. Add on a desert, mountain, farmland, small towns, ocean floor, and surely more. Brand new vehicles, side missions, visual features. Theres no reason any GTA fan should be disappointed.

Be warned though, the city may seem small, especially when viewed from the hills, because IV had tall buildings that usually always blocked your view, and it was separated by waterways which made it seem wider than it really was. Los Santos is one city on one piece of land, with fewer tall buildings.

You should try piecing the panoramic picture and the daytime vinewood sign picture together, it bascially shows the whole, or almost, city. I say it's almost as big or asbig as LC. That's excluding the stuff in the hills which obviously aren't in those shots.

That's wrong. Check the Mapping Los Santos thread.

I don't know why everybody says its the same size if Rockstar didn't said a sh*t about it except that the whole map is bigger than San Andreas, RDR and GTA IV combined.

Here's a VERY rough translation of what IGN said:

'The downtown area of LC is larger than LS, but the entire city of LS covers more square footing than LC.'

@ CTCCoco: Are you aware of the multiple previews of this game from poeple that have seen the game in action? R*isn't the only provider of official information.

Someone obviously isn't up to date with news.

I'm guessing it will be bigger than LC horizontally.

Liberty City has a lot of very high skyscrapers, which makes it bigger vertically.

Nobody knows anything. The ONLY confirmation we've received is that the entire map of GTAV will be the size of Liberty City, RDR and San Andreas combined. This is INCLUDING interior spaces and Ocean coastline. This doesn't tell us how big Los Santos will be exactly. The most we've heard are statements that allude to Los Santos "appearing" to be the size of Liberty City. This guesstimate comes from analyzing screenshots, and is NOT definitive proof of anything.

As I stated in a previous post, IGN said in their preview that by area Los Santos is slightly bigger than Liberty City. Seems to me that they wouldn't make a claim such as that without word from R* backing it up, otherwise they would have said 'From what we saw of the map, LS seemed more or less the same size as LC'.

From what you saw, did Los Santos, the city itself (not including mountains/countryside/etc.) appear bigger than GTA IV’s Liberty City?Los Santos definitely covers more square footage, just as the sprawling Los Angeles metro area does compared to New York City. But just like the real cities, if you’re wondering about the density of the downtown area, Los Santos proper is smaller than Liberty City.

Game Informer - "Los Santos definitely covers more square footage"

They don't say if they're including the water between the land in the measurement of Liberty City. That makes a big difference in terms of square footage.

IGN - "the city of Los Santos alone is comparable in size to the whole of Liberty City"

I'm thinking if it were bigger, they'd say bigger and not comparable.

Its already confirmed that the map size is bigger than GTAIV - SAN ANDREAS - RED DEAD REDEMTION together. and then you can put it all together and imagine read dead redemtion and san andreas map added into GTAIV. now thats not small! devil.gificon14.gif

From everything I've seen the city of Los Santos looks to me like it's roughly the size of New Austin, maybe a little bigger.

I hope they did, it would mean it is bigger than all the land together in IV, but most likely they just mean LC without the water in between.
