It's as if Franklin doesn't know Michael in that part of the trailer. But then Michael is introducing Trevor to Franklin. I think many people get that part of the trailer wrong. Note that everything I'm gonna type from now on is just my opinion, but I think it's accurate. When you see Michael sitting on the bench and Lamar (Franklin's friend) talking to him you hear the phrase "Can you tell me where Berto's beach house is?", but that phrase in the original cutscene is not being said at the same time as the events seen on video. It's probably being said right before Michael anwers: "It's the house right there, with the yellow stairs." My guess is that the three (Michael, Franklin and Lamar) had a meeting planned in that place. Franklin and Lamar arrive after Michael, wich is waiting them sitting on the bench. Lamar says something to him like "So here we are" and Michael realizes they have arrived while turning his head toward them. Then there may be some dialogue wich we don't know about, 'till the moment when Franklin asks "Ok, let's stop the chatting, can you tell me where Berto's beach house is?". And Michael answers. So what I'm saying is that in my opinion Michael and Franklin knew eachother since before that meeting scene at the bench. Michael is probably sitting there, just to get away from his family for a bit, then gives them directions & notices how much of a hustler Franklin is when he steals a car. Then from there I imagine Michael will partner up with him & return to crime... because he hates his new domestic life. Talk about a mid-life crisis! Franklin wants to further himself as a criminal, so I'm sure he's willing to be mentored. It's the perfect teacher-student/father-surrogate son relationship.
