The Franklin - Michael - connection

I was wondering about the connection between Michael and Franklin. In Trailer 2, it seems as if they don't know each other for a long time. Like in that scene when Michael is pointing towards a location or when he introduces Franklin to Trevor.

Michael's words are:"...the son I always wanted."

Pretty strong statement, considering Michael has two children. (which we know he has no good relation to.) And even though Michael says this in a very laid-back way, it certainly sounds like he means it. Like, he has a reason why he appreciates Franklin that much.

But how could these two become this close already in the very beginning of the game when their main target is "only" to rob banks? I'm just wondering how they got close.

He's probably ironic.

I can imagine the whole cutscene. The 3 guys meet near the heli. It's the first time Trevor and Franklin see each other.

Michael says something like: "Ok, let's go."

and one of the other two asks: "What, you don't even introduce ourselves?"

So Michael introduce them the ironic way: "This is Trevor, my best friend, and this is Franklin, the son I always wanted."

Trevor isn't his best friend, and Franklin isn't the son he always wanted. He was just being ironic.

good question. im guessing you do a couple of missions for Michael BEFORE he introduces you to Trevor.

Jesus Christ this is getting bad. I'm just waiting for the thread where someone spots a rock on the ground of a screenshot and makes a post speculating its importance.

Could be. I took Michael's saying literally.

Oh well, we had worse topics. And this is a reasonable question. We know that Trevor and Michael do have a history. But as for Franklin, we don't know how he gets in the mix.

You do speak german?

Yes, I do smile.gif But we should discuss everything in english so that other users won't be upset.

I have a theory what could have happened:

I think Michaels wife spent all his money for clothes, loverboys and luxury and Franklin comes to his house to get his car because he has that repo-job. For some reason they team up instead of being rivals from that point. I think the whole "son I always wanted" thing is, because Franklin did more for Michael (from this point) then his real son ever did.

And for that 6-heists-thing: Well… we don't know why they do these big heists. I think they are necessary because in the end there is either something big where they need the money, or some big betrayal

Thank you for that. As a Jewish person I was quite worried.

As a con artist you are not bound to lie all the time. These three guys must have some basis of friendship. I wouldn't trust another man with tasks like these "heists" rockstar mentioned.

Mike will have a reason why he likes Franklin. We will find out.

I wonder how their partnership will "end"...IF it ends that is.

Until now, every GTA game had an internal Freemode after the story was done. How will they do this with 3 protagonists? They sure can go different ways. Someone dies and his actions won't be accessible anymore unless you decide otherwise in the story before.

What I think when Franklin said "whatever" is the fact he is laying eyes on Trevor for the first time. He sees that he looks like a scumbag, so that's his response.

As for the relationship Michael & Franklin will have, I think it's already been established they will have a teacher-student/father-surrogate son kind of relationship... very similar to Walt & Jesse in Breaking Bad.

I am leaning toward sarcasm, too.

He isn't being a con-artist, or trying to charm then, he's just joking around. Does Michael even look like the kind of guy who would use phrases such as "best friend".

Trevor is "my best friend", that is to say, a close friend, but one whom he argues with, disagrees with and fights with a lot.

Franklin, "the son I always wanted", is merely Michael implying that his son is a goofball, and can be a lot of trouble - he doesn't truly wish his son to be like Franklin, nor does Franklin think he does.

I hope Michael and Franklin have known each other long enough and have become close enough for Michael to call him 'the son I always wanted', otherwise it just comes off as sloppy and corny writing.
