I hate Trevor

I hate Trevor. He is a white trash piece of sh*t and I will spend many hours scouring the game world looking for new and creative ways to end his pathetic, useless life. The reason for this hatred is all about pandering.

Michael would be an excellent solo protagonist. His background and story are more than enough to carry the entire game, but that wasn't enough for Rockstar. They obviously decided they needed to be "edgy" and "innovative" so they did this multi-protag bullsh*t. Now they already had a winner with Michael so all they needed was a couple more meatsacks for the rest. Franklin was an obvious choice for two reasons - first, you cant have a game set in a "re-imagined" southern California that centers around crime without having a playable black man. Its just not done. Second, Franklin keeps the minority customer base happy (get pissed if you want, I dont care, but you know its true). That handles two of our three protags, that leads me to Trevor.

Trevor is a wildcard. He was put into the game to pander to all the little minons of the "me" generation who live thier comfortable little lives in thier parents home while they are handed everything in life yet appreciate nothing. One day, after thier parents pay for all thier education for them, they will be useful members of society but for now they are useless. These people are bored and restless in thier lives and yearn to do some truly crazy sh*t but are to scared to actually do it, but they dream thier sick dreams. Rockstar knows all about these people so they said to themselves "how are we going to whip these little bastards into even MORE of a frenzy so they will be begging thier parents to buy them the game?" and like marketing magic Trevor was born. He is the embodiment of everything these people want to do but cant. He is chaos incarnate and his ONLY reason for being here is to make all the little closet sociopaths drool.

Ive played every GTA and one of the best things about all of them is Rockstars refusal to bend to popular pressure and make thier own game THIER way. Of course they included elements of popular culture, but they never pandered just for pandering sake. I hate Trevor for what he represents - Rockstar trading thier integrity for a few more bucks.

Now comes the point where all the fanboys will pick apart what I have written here in an effort to show that im wrong (in thier own "logic"). There will also be name calling and people generally acting stupid. You can all say whatever you want but I wont be responding to anyone. Ive said my piece.

Well, at least you don't hate Franklin like most people do.

franklin could have easily been mexican instead of black, it is los angeles, but as for trevor being a marketing ploy, he does seem alot more like the majority of criminals than most other gta protags, someone completely lacking in ambition and direction, tied to an addiction and unable to see the issues that that would bring though sheer pig headedness

I don't know why you don't like these ideas.... I mean, the ideas are good! And it will feel different. When I buy a new game, I want a new game... Not always the same crap.

how can you hate him, you know almost nothing about him. And seriously why do you think someone on this forum would ever care that you think Trevor sucks ?

Michael - savvy, wise, older and experienced, has business knowledge, "wise old man"

cool.gif

Franklin - street smarts, knows how to play the game, get around and do what needs to be done, can go into and handle situations an older white guy couldn't

devil.gif

Trevor - ffa, anything goes, does whatever, has no rulebook, or code of ethics, psychopath, who does anything

seems balanced to me icon14.gif

And OP, how many more threads do you want to make about your "hate" about Trevor?

honestly I like Michael A LOT more.

But it'll depend on how the running animations are for each character.

So you're saying these "closet sociopaths" should live out their sick dreams in real life rather than pretend to do it in game? There's a lot of sh*t-talking from a man who gets his sense of entitlement by pretending to be a police sheriff in an imaginary city.

Man, talk about throwing a rock into a hornet's nest ... tounge.gif But I agree that it's a worthy discussion to have, about why Rockstar designed the story and picked these protags (and dropped other protag candidates that we will never know about).

Out of the three I don't like Trevor either. White trash. The other two are cool. I mean overall I don't care. It's GTA and I'm going to love the game as a whole but I'll probably only play as Trevor to get the experience, see what they've built.

I have to say that Trevor will probably not be my favorite... But he looks different of any GTA characters up to date... So I guess we have to wait and see before we pretend such of things.

What I want to know is, how did you get your hands on the game? I bet it feels good to be the first person in the world to play GTA V (not counting those who work on the game and are testing it out)

Because the only way you could "hate" something would be if you had tried it right? Or "someone" if you had used that "person" in a game? Right?

So, how did you manage to get the game?

Wow, judgmental much?

I love Trevor. I don't live at my parents house, I'm 23, married, and I work for the government. What do you do? I hope your story is impressive.

me personally, i have no problem with Trevor, i just think he needs to be 10 years younger....maybe around 29 years old.

my biggest issue is with Michael being a playable character. Michael should be who the story Revolves around like Gay Tony....so as the brains of each operation, he shouldnt be a playable character.

Franklin and Trevor should be his underlings and the only guys we get to play as. Trevor has the weapons, flight skills and control of drugs....Franklin is the expert with cars, has street goons and can have them provide ground support.

and Franklin was at some point half mexican, i dont care what anyone says lol. this would have made him a great mediator between black and mexican gangs...and as a result, we would get to take on missions with support from both gangs...or Trevor could call him when he needed support for a mission or drug activity.

I don't hate Trevor, but I agree to an extent. IMO his character feels like it was created as a last minute effort to fill the 3rd protagonist spot. We knew nothing about guy before 3-4 months ago. Atleast Michael and Franklin appeared in trailer 1.

If GTA V was a solo protagonist game I could see Franklin filling the role before Trevor, but ultimately Michael feels like the "guy" so to speak which explains his heavy presence in both trailers. No doubt had R* not gone down the multiple protagonists route Michael would be the choice. It's so blatantly obvious.

I'm sure Trevor will be fun, but he really feels like he was thrown in for the hell of it.

Yeah, I'm trying to imagine the brainstorming sessions and the range of possible protags suggested, and wondering if during the brainstorming process, someone saw a trend and just extrapolated a Trevor character to the limit as a sarcastic exercise.

Then after a couple more go-arounds, the artistic team realized that they best like the idea of this extreme nutcase and then they couldn't shake the notion and revert to a less extreme protag - they we just having too much fun playing around at the limits of over-the top ridiculousness (hints of Saints Row, maybe??).

Now we're stuck with it. I do think it fits with Houser's comment that Trevor is GTAV's id, which maybe a game like GTA does need. Too bad he is apparently so distasteful. The constipation scene that is trumpeted in the game previews is an example of rubbing it in our face. Maybe it's Rockstar's ethical way of associating unrestrained violent impulses with a distasteful character, so that the young impressionable kids will not adopt him as a hero figure. Probably won't work; I can already imagine all the kids saying, "Trevor is cool, man!!"

Trevor will be the greatest character ever!

He is the embodiment of the perfect GTA protagonist, an unruly, maniac, chaotic, drug-abusing psycho! This makes this character FUN which in which GTA is all about.

I will be playing him the most.

OP, nice topic and read. You certainly got a point. Even though I don't exactly "hate" Trevor, I share some of your reasons about how & why Rockstar put in Trevor.

I also assume he got put into the trinity as the last.

When I first saw captures of him, I liked how Rockstar created him, his looks, like, balding, scruffy, his maniac look...I thought most people would despise him. Only to find out, he is the most loved.

Now I really got into the idea of the character Michael.

Somehow I'm not too keen on Trevor anymore.

Well, so what? This just gives the more character oriented people an excuse to get into all sorts of wacky mayhem again.

I go on a lot of rampages as niko, johnny, and luis, but I'm well aware that there are many people who didn't rampage with niko or one of the other guys even though they really wanted to because it would be "Out of character". This is their excuse, and I'm fine with that. Whatever. There's nothing wrong with embracing the wacky destructive side of GTA. I don't know why people think there is.

i am going to put your whole bloodline to the sword and let gravity take them (no, but seriously, being both black and mexican wouldn't really matter, most gangs work the idea your part of them and you stay part of them, flip flopping between two would be quite impossible as he'd at best cease to be trusted by the gang, or at worst, would be killed for disloyalty)

Trevor wasn't very well liked when his artwork was unvealed. As soon as he was shown jumping out of a plane and crashing two trains together he became an overnight hero.

I understand the appeal that he's batsh*t crazy without the morals after someone so emotional and vengeance stricken as Niko, but he feels like a character R* should've done in the GTA III era.

I'm willing to give him a chance to grow on me, but I feel Michael is more representative of the types of protagonists R* have created this gen. There needs to be more on Franklin for me to make judgement on him.
