Wilko007
i like this idea of if you're slowly walking to the door, than you will turn teh handle and walk in, but if you're sprinting/jogging, you will shoulder barge it open? This combined with red dead's static doors, so we can close them/open them when we want
DeadZombie
I can see it Being a property for your safehouses ( Michaels place, Franklin apartment/loft, Trevor's moblie home) but for everything else swinging doors. Just think of free roam mulitplayer people opening doors just to get shot like hell. Maybe a cover door open. But I don't think it's so hot for mulitplayer
TheVoiceOfReason
In GTA IV, you open a door by just pushing. So, will we see a little improvements on opening doors? Like, you need a key to open your house door and.. stuff like that. /Discuss I really could not give a f*ck.
Zee
I agree it looks horrible. Complete bottom of the barrell no effort animation to open the door. The pinnacle of laziness. Will it be any different in gta5? Hell no. Mark my words.
nkjellman
It might be improved. However one improvement I hope they include is opening doors when in cover next to them. It was annoying in IV when you were trying to shoot through a doorway in cover and the door would keep closing. Rockstar improved it on their games newer than IV so its possible. Nah, the pinnacle of laziness was not having doors at all, like Vice City. Luckily, they improved on them in SA and IV.
T0X1C
Are you people high? San Andreas had no doors. What SA had was a yellow portal which transported you to a room in the sky.

Thanks for the trivia there, but even if it was a cutscene it was an improvement over the lack of doors in previous games and something which was improved upon again in later games. JB94
Along with opening doors, I would really love to see the ability to open the bonnet or the boot of vehicles. I would like to be able to see a vehicle's engine without having to crash it till its bonnet comes off.
Rockstar Cake
I think Grand Theft Auto V should make more use of the X button (on Xbox 360, maybe circle or square on the PS3) as an action button. Walking up to doors and holding -action button- to open up the door, or break it down if it's locked. Hold X to get on something like a swing (always thought that would be kind of fun to swing on the broken swingsets in GTA IV), or even hold X to switch seats in a moving vehicle if you're a passenger, or something to that effect. Honest Bill
I liked how it worked in RDR. i hated in GTAIV when it would swing closed after a few seconds. But the actual animations are fine really. I think it would be pretty cool if when you are aiming your gun by holding the left trigger, the door animation would become a kick, whereas if you aren;t aiming he'll just open it normally. Or if you run at it without aiming he shoulder barges it. Not having the ability to close the door might cause some awkwardness though.
ugotsmoked
I don't care about a lock and key, or door knobs. I want to open doors how I would really open them if I was a top of the line criminal...using my shoulder or foot with all the force I have. Word. Yeah, being able to full-on break down doors like a badass would be a great addition to GTA, I don't think I'd get bored of using that. epicluca
I'd like it to be like LA Noire. If walking to a door you actually open it, and if you're running you barge/kick it.
significantother
It's come to this. We have officially ran out of things to discuss, we have digged into the deep dark pits of GTA IV, and everything is now out.
Hodgey.
I have never thought about a door opening animation in a game ever before saw this topic. I honestly dont care it wont make me like the game any more or any less.
Ibrahimhassounah
I think it will be like in L.A.NOIR where you just step near the door and the character open the door with a great animation by holding handheld of the door , and when it comes to elevators you'll have to step near it and press (A) for Xbox and (X) for the PS3 and then the character will intract with it
Durden
Opening doors is a very sticky dilema. You want to always feel free and in control, but that's really hard to do when it comes to opening doors without an animation, all whilst keeping it realistic. IV was unrealistic how every door was a swing-open door that went both inside and outside, whereas an actual door would require a pull force from one side of the door. So how do the protagonists freely grab onto doorknobs/handles and pull them open? What if you're sprinting? How will the player feel free if their gameplay is abruptly interrupted by the change-in-pace caused by a scripted pulling animation? Rockstar's problem
