Opening Doors

In GTA IV, you open a door by just pushing. So, will we see a little improvements on opening doors?

Like, you need a key to open your house door and.. stuff like that.

Very possible with the improved animations I think. But needing a key? I don't think they should go that far. But I guess first we need to know what kind of interiors there are anyways. confused.gif

I want to be able to kick doors open. Maybe you can kick locked doors open as well rather than picking the lock but you get a wanted level.

Haha, no. Not saying that we need a key for every doors in the game. biggrin.gif

Red Dead Redemption's were kind of like GTA IV's doors but they didn't swing and were actually static. You could take cover and open and close doors as free as you may, though.

For L.A. Noire, even though the game didn't have the engine, they could still take the mechanic of having an actual animation for opening doors. They had animations too for Max Payne 3, but I don't remember any doors that didn't lead you to the next scene.

GTA V they'll probably have actual animations for opening doors too. And I hope we can kick open doors like Michael does in the jeweler robbery.

I can't really ask for anything more. Having keys to access certain areas would be interesting. It'd feel like the old days of gaming..

i'd like to see them add a 'turning the doornob' animation. but i dont want it to slow me down either.

no lock & key.

Sprinting towards/through a door could trigger an animation different from the one when you walk towards/through a door. Maybe when you run you you kick a door down or sort of ram through it with your shoulder first. Turning a door nob or using a lockpick could be used for the slow approach. That way when you're on the run you won't be slowed down so much but still have a believable animation. And sometimes you just don't get a door down that fast....that's real too. ;D

If they still have swing doors I wouldn't mind, but V is about heist and sh*t, opening doors/breaking in and all that noise. It would fit to have the doors and its mechanics overhauled.

I liked it in LA Noire where Cole would open the door by hand. Perhaps R* North will add a mix between MP3 and LA Noire? Where if you walk the character opens the door by hand but when you run then they character uses their shoulder to open it.

^ Yes, that would make it look more dynamic and natural. I hope it will be that way, IV's seemed a little " empty " so to speak.

King Of Monra

sh*t! There are 12 cops and police dogs after me! Oh lets hide in there!

*slowly walks up to the door and puts his hand on the knob and turns it around whilst being shot at*

I think I prefer the doors that swing open.

But what would be cool would be if you could lock the door from the inside.

Don't tell me what to do, I'll cut you...

Anyway I hope that only the player and his friends/family can open the door to his house. Would suck if you were being attacked and so you ran into your home, but the attackers could just stroll into your home and kill you like in GTA 4.

but i hope that if i'm in a hurry, the character knows and opens the door quikly. Like if you aproach the door slowly you open it slow but if you run into it you do it fast... am i whatsthat.gif repeating myself?

I agree. I hope we can bust down, kick down and shoot down doors to open them, when we are in a hurry or if the door is locked. It adds to the "heist" atmosphere as was mentioned above. GTAV protags are supposed to be badass dudes. I expect to be able to kick down doors routinely.

This game needs to be released soon, the topics are becoming dumber and dumber

People have been thinking and saying this since a couple months after GTAV Trailer #1, when it started becoming clear that Rockstar was going to leave us out hanging in the wind. But I think this doors mechanics topic is worthy of discussion. I say, don't blame the OP, blame Rockstar for starving us for info back then, and, it's looking like, again.

Guys think about it...animations? Gta iv got it good with opening doors. It would feel cartoony to have animations every time you open a door and it would slow down the action, it would almost be like we're back to loading screens again. Unless they can turn the knob without animations like iv then leave it the same.

I don't think he means cut scene-like animations. But kind of like opening a car door where you grab the door and smoothly enter rather than pushing it.

This is how you open a door...

From the walkthrough of the game "Bud Tucker in Double Trouble"

Open up the radio in your inventory to get some batteries. Combine the

batteries with the cassette player and add the cassette into the mix as well.

Use the cassette player on the sleeping guard.

Run to the kitchen and use the large clockwork key on the washing machine to

get a small clockwork key. Use this on the clockwork driver in the subway

tunnel. Pick up the security pass that was hidden behind the train. Return to the store room via the air vent.

Unlock the door with the key and open the door.

Puts this door discussion in some perspective biggrin.gif

I don't know. I feel like this would get frustrating in multiplayer. If someone you're trying to kill goes inside and closes the door and keeps their gun on the door, anyone who comes in to kill them is f*cked. With swinging doors at least you stand a chance. I guess you could open from cover but if you pop out to shoot...BOOM!

I'd guess they've spent some time working on this. The way it works in IV wasn't an HD quality interaction, it was basically like doors in San Andreas.

I'd like it a bit more realistic, a little bit like L.A. Noire, but like if you run, you would smash the door or open it quicker...

Im fine with the swing door although a kick animation here an there for locked doors would be nice. Not fond of hand turning the door animation. I can see it becoming cumbersome and last thing i want is getting shot in the back whilst the protag fumbles with a doorknob.
