Capricornus Posted January 12, 2013 Share Posted January 12, 2013 Yakuza is a great franchise that I have enjoyed since the first one. However, I have never heard anyone say it "rivals" GTA. Its actually a pretty stupid comparison, especially when you play both games. I too have not heard anything about Yakuza 5. And on a special note, as great as the Yakuza games are, they don't really sell too well over here in the USA. They are completely different games and will never "rival" each other. Yakuza is more of a free roam RPG than a sandbox crime based game like GTA, Saints Row and Mafia (although it is somewhat similar to Sleeping Dogs). It's also done completely in Japanese with English subtitles so it will never pull in an audience like GTA. Right now the only thing that can compete with GTA is Call of Duty and the next one of those will likely be released in the usual november slot in 2013, several months after the projected release of GTA V. I mean...the animations are dated as hell, and while the cutscenes look amazing, during gameplay it looks really..well...aged too. In no way can it compete with GTA in my opinion.
