dumbassbuffet
So the GI preview mentioned that there is going to be an antagonist (I think the laws of a good narrative say that as well), so here's what I was thinking. What if the antagonist is another one of the playable characters, and he changes depending on which character is active... Now then, I know this has been covered, but I think I've found a new way to justify / rationalize / explain this concept Think about it, 3 separate protagonists. but each one has ONE thing in common with one other protagonist. to explain, please look at the image below. From what we know, Michael is Franklyn's mentor in some way. Him and the new guy go after Trevor, the crazy one. Michael and Trevor are old friends, not only that, but he's "[Michael's] best friend". When Franklyn starts getting too big for his own good, they take him out. Finally, we have Trevor and Franklyn, who never made it big like Michael. Filled with jealousy, they go after him. I feel like these scenarios can be compared with the stories from previous GTA titles. For example, Case 1 is like GTA III, where the new guy, along with his friend who has some power take out the crazy one. Case 2 is similar to GTA SA's storyline where two old friends go against the one who wronged them Case 3 is reminiscent of GTA Vice City, where two underdogs take out the guy "in charge" The point is, everyone seems to be against each other, but where is the break in this chain? EDIT: Circular chart I remember the GI preview mentioning that most of the time, the characters would be "Bickering amongst themselves", What if the antagonist changes depending on which character selected and who he's talking to. after all, they also mentioned that "you can really tell what others think of the player, say for example if one person leaves, the others might make a comment on how much they hate him" (paraphrased) Discuss, Edited January 12, 2013 by dumbassbuffet
eze e
Good point you've made here, it's something that makes sense it can happen and would make for a good story. But as i was reading your post i realized we might as well have the option to determine who lives or dies. I say this because also in the gi article they said each character will have their own life so it may be possible for a ending in which the player has to choose one or two characters to go against the other one or two. They also talked about knowing things before the next character, so maybe, you would get to know something about michael when youre playing as franklin or trevor that makes realize michael needs to be killed and you can call him or go somewhere and find him or you could play mike and try to counterattack.... Possibilities are infinite. i'm pumped up!
nocunoct
It makes much sense to me. I was thinking of something similar.

killahmatic
I was following you, until you kept spelling it "Franklyn". Then I got all thrown off.
GTA-King
Great topic! It's definitely possible they will all at some point antagonise one another. They are 3 very different characters with 3 very different things fueling them. Ego (Michael) Ambition (Franklin) Id. (Trevor) They're bound to clash at some point. Hell, even Niko, Johnny, & Luis antagonised eachother at some point in IV.
