GSF Green Flag
Just wondering if anyone is going to be using certain protagonists in certain areas only? Basically having Franklin run around Ganton, Michael on the upper scale Los Santos and Trevor in Red County. I think that's what Rockstar is aiming for since they're introducing three characters to the game. I understand that a lot of people don't like CJ and Franklin for obvious reasons which I find stupid but hey to each their own I guess. It makes sense that this is the reason since they all have traits of those respective areas. So everyone has someone to play with.
universetwisters
I'll have whoever I damn well please running around wherever I damn well please. The first time I played IV, I ruined it by trying to "keep it cannon", but screw cannon in V, it's all about how I wanna play!
saintsrow
I'll have whoever I damn well please running around wherever I damn well please. The first time I played IV, I ruined it by trying to "keep it cannon", but screw cannon in V, it's all about how I wanna play! In the process of casually running around and exploring between missions, I expect that due to each protag's separate safehouse location, we will find ourselves spending more time in their respective regions, and using protag-switching to go play in another region rather than always having to travel a long way from our protag's safehouse. I am thinking about TGOBT in this respect, where I have spent hundreds of hours after the mission storyline as Luis, running all over Liberty City, but I always have to make it back to my one safehouse to save game, so I find myself spending much more time in that vicinity. I would hate being stuck with just one safehouse per protag, but I've got feeling that is what Rockstar has in mind. One thing that has probably been discussed to death is that probably each protag will have to collect his own weapons over time, and maybe only can exchange weapons with other protags when they are in the same place. It's going to be three times the work (or is it three times the fun) building up the weapons collections for the three protags.
Miss Darko
One thing they hinted at is that each character will have the world react to them differently, which is certainly new to GTA. Pedestrians normally react to our characters in a fairly neutral way, not commenting on any specific aspects of the character or anything like that. But with three protagonists, we see three very different possible ways for the world to feel, the specific example given being that Trevor's world will feel more "antagonistic". So for instance, a certain female pedestrian 'personality type' (promiscuous young woman #2) might compliment Franklin's looks, ignore Michael, and act uncomfortable around or even disgusted by Trevor. I bring this up because I agree that R* wants each character to see the world from very different perspectives, but I don't think they'll necessarily encourage us to stay in one area, but rather make the world react to our choice of protagonist during free-roam in ways that give us their perspective. There might be some different activities available, different side-missions, and so on. I do think that they are using this to influence the player into acting like the character they are playing. They will be influenced to be wild and unhinged as Trevor, but active and outgoing as Frankin, based on the way the world feels from the perspective of each character. But personally, I pay little heed to the characters or story when I'm free-roaming anyways. I greatly enjoy missions and the story-lines for GTA, but my rampages are a very separate deal. I also occasionally involve a little imagination in my free-roams. This is my favorite aspect of GTA and I don't expect the style of GTA V to change that, it merely gives me more options. greenrock
so will trevor be allowed to go to los santos? in the city will michael be allowed to go in the country? or are the 3 protagonists restricted to there areas?
Miss Darko
so will trevor be allowed to go to los santos? in the city will michael be allowed to go in the country? or are the 3 protagonists restricted to there areas? Of course they're not restricted, the whole map is open from the beginning. The OP is merely asking if we will be playing the characters to be within their certain areas, sort of 'role-playing' the characters as encouraged by R*. However, this assumes that this is what the story will do. I think the characters will probably end up going all over the place during the course of the story. I don't think that was R*'s aim at all. but as for your question, no, I'll be playing all 3 in every area depending on my mood and what I want the game to feel like. Its going to be fun to put someone who appears to be 'anti-person' like Trevor into the heart of the city, and someone dressed up in an expensive suit riding ATVs in the county. Matty
so will trevor be allowed to go to los santos? in the city will michael be allowed to go in the country? or are the 3 protagonists restricted to there areas? The map is open from the beginning, so the answer to your questions are yes, yes and no respectively. Furthermore, although each protagonist starts off in a different area, the storyline will revolve around the same missions - in other words, regardless if you play as Michael, Trevor or Franklin, you will still be doing the same missions and will still be around the same areas. I would think that many of the side activities that each of the protagonists can do though will predominately center around their primary locations; i.e, the countryside and desert for Trevor, the ghetto for Franklin and the city and hills for Michael. Diesleman
Who wants to role play in a gta game? I'm looking forward to going everywhere with Trevor and flipping off every variety of ped I can find.
rare.steak
This ain't Sims. I'll use them anywhere they want to do whatever I want. Franklin playing golf, Michael busting up the ghettos, Trevor just being all civilised-looking in a formal outfit. I'm really not interested in R* turning GTA into a personality-sim. I'd rather R* stick to a player's freedom to play the games than having our hands held in an interactive story of some sort like Heavy Rain. GSF Green Flag
Just imagine going to Ganton as Trevor and flipping off a bunch of Ballas lol. But what I was saying was that RockStar created characters that every player of te GTA series can relate too in someway. Obviously San Andreas was widely popular with the urban community because we related with CJ. What I think RockStar is doing here is giving us an obvious flexibility with the characters, each character catering to whatever the player may prefer. He'll, isn't one of them an ex army guy? That could be good for someone who likes the COD series(far fetched but you get my drift). Michael who's more keen to doing jobs for Dons and Mafiosos in his past, catering to people who love the mafia feel to a game. Trevor is just a sick f*ck who doesn't care and is the ideal guy you'd wanna use to blow sh*t up. One problem people ha with previous games was the lack of EVERYONE being able to relate to those characters.

GSF Green Flag
Didn't wanna clog up the board with another topic, so I'lll just note this in here but I was watching the second trailer and couldn't help but notice that the guy that Franklins dog was chasing was a baller gang member. When you pause the video you'll notice how he's wearing heavy purple from his shirt to his shoes. This leads me to believe that they are in the game.
