t9kane
Hello people!! I am 21 and I am from Portugal. I am an engineer. I the past 3 years I worked for Qatar Investment Authority and Nakheel Real Estate Developer. I must say that this companies are the dream of every engineer. It is amazing the amount of money they are willing to offer you for such a small amount of work. The first offer I received dates of 2011, when I sent my curriculum vitae to United Arab Emirates, Bahrein and Qatar. Only Qatar and UAE answered. I received the first offer from Qatar Investment Authority which consisted of 150,000 Qatar riyals which is A LOT! Of course, for a Portugal man, whose salary is no more than 2,000€, it was a offer that I just couldn't refuse. [/u]Qatar: Qatar is a small, but powerful country. From Doha we can see its skyline and amazing architecture in buildings. The people are nice and sympathic. They are always ready to help despite what people say about Arab people. United Arab Emirates After 1 year working with Qatar Investment Authority, I received another offer, this time, from United Arab Emirates company Nakheel. They are super-rich. Their offer was slightly better than Qatar's one. They offered me 230,000 dirhams for a contract of 2 years of work, of which I only completed 1 and a half. It is just amazing how these offers come from out of nowhere and change a people's life. If people receive an offer from these countries, do not refuse! I promise you won't regret it. I am open to receive any questions from you about these countries. About the culture, religion, leisure, places to visit, etc...

Well 230,000 dirhams may sound like a lot, but only comes out to ~$62k USD. So for two years, that's $31k a year which isn't necessarily bad, but isn't ALOT. I mean my 60+ year old mom works in a lumber mill operating machinery making almost 40k a year..

t9kane
Well... I am an engineer. Thats an awfully wide statement. Could you be more specific? Yeah, you're right, I should be more specific. I am civil engineer. It's sub-type is architectural engineering, which is the application of engineering principles to building design and construction. t9kane
Is the divide between the rich and poor as steep as people say it is? I heard that in the UAE only rich people live in Dubai, and most other people in the country are poor and live outside of it. Also ^ What kind of an engineering do you do? Well, if you compare Ajman (one of the poorest emirates) with Dubai, the diference is certainly huge. But inside a specific emirate, the steep is not THAT big. There are many business man on the street with golden watches, and Lamborghinis and that kind of stuff, but there are normal teachers, house-keepers that can only afford a Toyota Corolla...But like 80% of the population receives a good salary to have an established life. In Qatar things are different, because as the country is not as big as UAE, 85% of the population is really rich. Also, i think that, currently, Qatar is the richest country in the world. In Qatar, you never see a poor guy on the street asking for money. I already answered to my type of engineering, it is civil engineering, but to be more specific, it's architectural engineering. 3niX
Well... Could you also clarify another thing here? You say youre 21 and that you have worked for three years. So, when exactly did you acquire your qualification as an engineer (it takes 5 years to get a degree in civil engineering in my university)? Or were you hired without any tangible experience and qualification?

I started taking a degree with 17 years and took me 2 years to get my qualification. I just sended my curriculum (what I had studied for the past 2 years and in what school) and I received an offer. Jay
Note that in the UAE, your salary depends of your nationality. Tell that to anyone from Bangladesh/Pakistan/etc. The UAE is a vile place in that regard, built on the back of excess, dick swinging and slave labour. I want to visit, just to see for myself the - quite objectively amazing - feats of engineering, but I won't shed a tear when these false cities are reclaimed by the desert. It will happen in my lifetime.
