t9kane
Hello, I have been out of the forums for a long time now, and I have been completely "turned off" about Grand Theft Auto V. Anyway, I was in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) on work ( I am an engineer who works for Nakheel, which is probably, the best entreprise in the world) and the country really fascinated me. What made me wondering if it was possible to have a reference of it in GTA 5 like there was in GTA 4 with Yusuf Amir. I think it would actually be cool, as the game focuses in the pursuit of the almighty dollar...

USAPatriot
There might be a reference. It is amazing how the city has literally just popped up out of the sand within the past ten - twenty years.

t9kane
There might be a reference. It is amazing how the city has literally just popped up out of the sand within the past ten - twenty years. Yeah, and the life quality there is amazing! I got paid 130,000 dirhams for 3 months of work with Nakheel! Also, they are not as "religious fanatic" as in the Saudi Arabia. They are a lot more tolerant with foreigners. I recommend United Arab Emirates to anyone who is in need of money. It is great!

Snake Without a Tongue
Are you trying to advertise the UAE? I'm sold! Woot, A-rab money! Dubai would actually be an awesome setting for a game. I've never been, but it looks crazy. It'd have to be a politically neutral game, though. Heh.

rdemel
I like Dubai. It is a nice city. UAE is indeed a pretty looking place. However, as Houser said GTA will remain American and i doubt that a game that has a large emphasis on American culture will focus on foreign elements such as enterprises in UAE. Triple Vacuum Seal
I'm sorry but I see nothing enviable about the UAE. After living in major American cities for the majority of my life, I desensitized to seeing the massive shiny skyscrapers and luxury sports cars everyday. I have a friend there who eventually learned to see past the luxury lifestyle there (which is poorly diversified/overly dependent on the oil). Life is about personal happiness. Some hardcore Islamic fundamentalist monarch telling me what's acceptable isn't appealing at all. Life in prison for marijuana possession...no thank you. Dubai is a place what is adapted to the Western Countries because of all the international projects and affairs. I have been there and besides of the skycrapers, cars, the weather and the high amount of muslims, it still feels like a western country.

It's very westernized and civilized until you have to start dealing with the legal system which labels activities that many young westerners would consider fun and normal as heinous offenses carrying extended prison terms. http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/u...-02-28-1.445519 "shut up, sit down, relax"

t9kane
Some guys here are bashing UAE. If would love to know more about arab culture, this is the place to visit. It's not as fanatic as Saudi Arabia or Iran where if you hug or kiss your girlfriend in public, they cut your head off You can freely discover more about their religion, food, traditions, costumes, and I do think that Dubai or Abu Dhabi would be cool to have as a setting for a Grand Theft Auto game Besides that, the quality of life there is a lot higher than mediterranean Europe (where I live). Kirsty
OK I think you can all carry on this discussion in the topic created by the same member over in General Chat. Rockstar aren't going to reference real countries, but maybe there could be a parody of some sort. But it wouldn't fit the context of the story in GTA V IMO.
