ArcaneKnight
Other than the non sense about the trees all I've heard from people are good things and how excited everyone is to get their hands on the game. But 2 trailers in, I'm seeing a reoccuring theme that is going to piss me off to no end and may just cost Rockstar a sale and long time supporter of the franchise if they seriously don't tone it down. From the trailers, to the screen shots, it's like Rockstar is trying way too hard. Taking scenes from what would be considered B-rated action films/sequences by today's standards. Like Stallone/Schwarzenegger action movies from the 80's and 90's, where every other scene is some explosion with the action star casually and non chalantly walking away in slow motion like it was supposed to make them that much more badass for walkin away all overdramatic like that. But come on, it's 2013 for crying out loud. That might've been cool in the 80's and early 90's but if they tried that now it would just be pure cheese and nobody would be able to take the movie or its actors seriously. Which is why IDK if I can take GTA or its protagonists seriously anymore. Like did they think I was supposed to be more impressed with the protagonist for walking away from an explosion in slow-mo with some mean grin and disregarding flying debris because they want to act like some kind of hardass from the 80's? And before you all try to come in here and tell me not to get the game then.. Listen, I don't need GTA V, pointblank period, I'll tell you that much right now. I was born and raised in the LA area, I know Southern California like the back of my hand, my life will go on just fine without V. It's not like I'm going to be experiencing something completely new for the first time like the majority of you who are not native or familiar to the Socal region. I've grown up and lived the very lifestyles they're trying to depict in V. I'm probably going to recognize everything and end up selling the game after I beat the campaign because I will be bored with the map by then I'm sure. You all might be inclined to go exploring, but not me, I already know the map so I'm getting right into the story mode and plan on beating it within the first 2 days of release and selling it back to game stop for top store credit dollar and using that on the new COD game that comes out later this year. You all entitled to your opinions just as I am, but I was fine with one sequence like that, but now that I know they have multiple scenes like that based off the few SS's they released and the first 2 trailers alone, I'm seriously considering making this my last GTA. And that scene where the kid is swinging by the boat sail is a direct rip off from Terminator 3, where Arnold was swinging around by the ladder crane on top of the Firetruck. Wouldn't be surprised if they rehash the Dirtbike/Semi-Truck sequence in the storm channels from Terminator 2 either. They used to be creative and innovative with their missions and cutscenes, now it seems they compile a bunch of different scenes from old action movies and essentially copy/paste them into their game and try to pass them off as missions they came up with on their own. Again, no offense, but just felt like that was something I had to get off my chest. I hope its not a reoccuring theme in future GTA titles, or for future trailers for that matter. I hope most of those scenes have already been covered with what they've released so far, because if more sh*t like that keeps popping up in the coming months I'm going to get pissed. Idk man, personally I liked all those scenes, and I wouldn't mind seeing more, at all. Yeah it wouldn't work in a today's movie but maybe when it's you directing the character it all gets more exciting and funny. I'm sure there will be a lot of more chilled down missions too tho. You know the map already? That's cool. So you don't care to see your place through Rockstars eyes? With a soundtrack with features. So you can go parachute out of a plane and land on a train then jump off the train and go exploring the waters in real life? That's cool. Because I can't, whether it's on SoCal or not. thebestgameever
Nothing, really it all looks and sounds awesome. BUT if i had to pock something, which i hope wont be an issue anyway but i am worried, is make the driving more racing style, which 90% of the time means arcade and easy to handle vehicles with no challenge. From the trailer ( first one, when FRANKLIN turned the car while cops were chasing him) kinda hints at a a more LA NOIRE style driving, which is bad. GTA_stu
Well there are only 2 things that would ruin the game for me. Number one being fat marine life, and number two being unrealistic shruberry. R* why do you do this to me!? Honestly though, I don't think there's anything that would make me not want to buy it. There are things I'm slightly apprehensive about or would have liked to be a bit different, like being able to buy property being in it. But it's not going to come anywhere near close to me not buying the game because of something like that.
TheJasonGallant
Oh my god... I mean those scenes are just supposed to impress you with the good stuff you can find in some missions... I mean... It's not all the game that will look like those scenes.... And for the map part, you don't know anything. LS is not LA even if it's inspired of it. Just like LC wasn't NY. Sure they will look the same, but they will still be different. So, your points, are pretty much not points at all. I'm really looking forward about this game, and since I don't know anything, well I can't say there is something bad about it.
Durden
When first reading your post, I just thought that you were a very picky person that was losing their respect for GTA. Then I read something that changed my opinion about you: Listen, I don't need GTA V, pointblank period, I'll tell you that much right now. THEN, I thought of you as an ungrateful fan that doesn't even deserve to play GTA games in general. But it gets better. After presenting that impression towards me, you said this: I've grown up and lived the very lifestyles they're trying to depict in V. I'm probably going to recognize everything and end up selling the game after I beat the campaign because I will be bored with the map by then I'm sure. This made me realize that you're not a GTA fan at all. If you were serious in this sentence, just stop playing, man. GTA isn't about the map; you're in it for all the wrong reasons. But then I read something that completely changed my perspective once and for all. plan on beating it within the first 2 days of release and selling it back to game stop for top store credit dollar and using that on the new COD game that comes out later this year Then it immediately struck me that you were nothing more than a troll, and I actually have less than zero respect for you or your opinion. Andreas
This is a question of taste and so far, we have only seen two trailers and a tons of screenshots but we don't know any details from the storyline and we won't until we play the game. We don't know how many missions GTA V actually has, we don't know how often we can choose for certain things like letting live a certain person or kill him/her (in a mission obviously) and we don't know how different each mission can be dependent on who of the three protagonists you are playing. I don't think that this, what Rockstar is doing, is necessarily bad because I actually like all ideas so far. That is like saying that the map of GTA Vice City is not interesting at all because you know Miami very well. GTA V's map will be just fictional and not an exact copy of the real city. GTA V is set in Southern California so the game very likely include areas outside from Los Angeles. Yeah, you might live in Los Angeles but this does not mean you know the map. If you buy a game just to play it through within two days, just to sell it again, then I would say you shouldn't bother at all to play the game. Believe me, I have played all possible games in rush like you do and they aren't anywhere as enjoyable as if you play one mission and then you do all possible side missions and other interesting activities. Honestly, it's just your loss and you won't enjoy the game if you only play it with the mind to sell it as soon as possible to buy a new CoD later the year. They used to be creative and innovative with their missions and cutscenes, now it seems they compile a bunch of different scenes from old action movies and essentially copy/paste them into their game and try to pass them off as missions they came up with on their own. If you think like this then everything is copied from anything/anywhere. A lot of games are based on movies and I go so far to say that every game from Rockstar Games and any other videogame developer has a touch similar to certain movies which does not necessarily mean it's really copied from that certain movie or these certain movies and even if, then these certain movies could be just copied from another movies and so on. Does this really surprise you so much? PostMeridian
The GTA series is supposed to be over the top, and has always borrowed heavily from or based sections/missions on action movies. - III: GoodFellas - Vice City: Scarface, Carlito's Way - San Andreas: Menace II Society, Boyz N The Hood, Casino - IV: The French Connection, Heat, Snatch In many ways these replications help develop the atmosphere in each game. I for one enjoy the references, and they have certainly inspired R* to create exciting, varied missions and backdrops to their products.
