asian man dan
http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday...uto-v-1-2721025 This tells us just how realistic they're wanting the city to feel. It's unbelievable the depth they go into for researching the game. Thought you guys might be interested
Deffpony
This isn't uncommon in the gaming industry now a days. Look at the assassins creed series. Rockstar already proved their devotion to authenticity with IV

Matty
This isn't uncommon in the gaming industry now a days. Look at the assassins creed series. Rockstar already proved their devotion to authenticity with IV Pretty much this. The Assassin's Creed series also came to mind for me when it comes to the massive amount of research that goes into the production of video games. Things such as research and the attention to detail and authenticity that accompany it will only get more full-on with the advancement of technology which will allow for even more authenticity and attention to detail than is already present in video games today - this will apply not only to Rockstar, but any game developer. And has as already been stated, it is definitely not uncommon for a game developer these days to go to great lengths to do all this lead-up research before commencing actual game development. rare.steak
I hope that's as deep as it ever needs to go for games. Any more extensive kind of research and we won't have another GTA for 10 years. Same goes to several AAA franchises as well.
Matty
I hope that's as deep as it ever needs to go for games. Any more extensive kind of research and we won't have another GTA for 10 years. Same goes to several AAA franchises as well. Can't say I don't agree with this but Rockstar, along with many other big developers have the money to churn out into resources to do more extensive research leading up to the development of their games; which will ultimately lead to more time between releases (as you said) but it is also a risky move as well as the gaming market would be dominated by annual sports franchises with the once-in-a-blue-moon AAA title. With that being said, I'd rather play an excellent game that takes five years to develop than a game that is released annually; not that GTA is an annual franchise - it is just that people's expectations for more authenticity and attention to detail in the games that they play will only increase as the technology allows for it. Coral_City
This isn't uncommon in the gaming industry now a days. Look at the assassins creed series. Rockstar already proved their devotion to authenticity with IV Assassin's Creed is a different beast, because of its historical nature if they hadn't done the research, they would have been vilified for inaccuracies. Kifflom112
They did this with IV. It's pretty amazing, but it's how R* makes their cities so superb. Apart from traffic and ped problems, LC for the most part was awesome.

AtomicPunk
Well, R* doesn't research car horns, that much we know. You don't put a Toyota horn on a Ford LTD. Man that urkes the hell outta me. And engine sounds is another area where R* need more research. As far as the city; I have no doubts that R* have done their research on it. I just hope they reflect the country parts a little more realistic and accurate.
Lil ski
Yeah a lot of video game companies do some very extensive research on their games. Take Bohiemia Interactive, the creators of the ArmA series, went to Greece for their research for ArmA 3. They're even serving freaking JAIL TIME for taking pictures of military bases (which in case ArmA 3 is delayed for 2013 lol )
Andreas
Rockstar Games took about 100,000 photos from New York to create Liberty City in GTA IV. Well, as massive as GTA V will be, it is clear that they need to take more photos this time to recreate a city, in this case Los Angeles, which will be when it comes to the size, much more massive than GTA IV. Darrel
Gta V is already looking so much closer to LA than IV ever came to capturing New York. I can definitely see then depth of research that has gone into creating the world.
Forzum
I still can't let go of the employ's of rockstar who went on a trip to L.A, SF, LV & San Diego where they had toooons of photos, including an up close pic of the car we see in trailer 1 & 2, (the red one). I really got a feeling they were going to these places for "work". But idk, I don't think SF/LV will be in V, but there's still a small thought that thinks it will. Same goes to several AAA franchises as well. Given the trend, I've been thinking that designing games of this scale takes so much time, that Rockstar will have to skip the next gen consoles completely, and we will first see GTA6 on the PS5 and xbox 1440 in about 12 years. I'm sure all those guys from the high latitudes of dreary Edinburgh were all reluctant to spend months doing research in Southern California. It's rough work, but somebody's gotta do it. Poor guys.... It would be really sh*tty if my Rockstar North officemates got to spend 6 months researching the Santa Monica and South Bay beaches in Los Angeles, and I got stuck researching the Salton Sea, crappy little desert towns outside of San Bernardino, and redneck trailer parks out in the styx where the hills have eyes.
