Magic_Al
The Playstation 3, despite taking a year longer to come out and years longer to make money, has now barely outsold the Xbox 360 worldwide. The Xbox 360 maintains an overwhelming lead in Microsoft's home territory of North America while similarly the Playstation 3 crushes the Xbox 360 in Sony's home of Japan and leads in Europe and other territories. Meanwhile, analysts conclude that Sony and Microsoft have reached a point where the massive expense of launching new consoles is now economically justified, and that downloads and streaming are not yet viable enough to replace discs and the next generation will continue to be disc-based. PlayStation 3 pulls ahead of Xbox 360 with 77 million consoles sold I currently own a 360 but consider myself neutral between 360 and PS3 today. My attitude is EVERYBODY WINS. JOSEPH X
The PS3 may be edging ahead now, but the life cycle of this console generation has been a long series of victories for microsoft. XBL, massively popular exclusives, agressive DLC exclusivity capturing, achievements, lead platform for many multi-platform games. If you took away the Japanese market, then you have to conclude that the xbox has won the west.
Trund
Both consoles have their pro and cons, but I'm surprised how well the Xbox 360 sold, considering that the original Xbox was a huge flop. But it just makes sense that the PS3 sales in the end were going to be higher. BluRay is a serious buying argument, as well as free online gaming. I like the Xbox 360, but never really considered getting one because of these two factors. Everyone should be happy with the console(s) they have, all these haters are just annoying. Finn 7 five 11
Of course streaming is not viable yet, in the US less than 30% of people (i'm not sure how much less exactly, it was a rough number crunch) have access to internet capable of downloading games. Also someone made this yesterday...got locked. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=541012

I fear subscription-based online play will set a terrible precedent for next gen. @Trund Same. Let's hope Sony doesn't forget that free online gaming is one of the main reasons it just ended up beating the 360 in terms of current gen sales. DeeperRed
massively popular exclusives Halo, Gears of War vs Uncharted, Infamous, Metal Gear Solid, Killzone. Yeah wouldn't call that a victory for Xbox really. Also can we not have a f*cking war on consoles. This world has enough war as it is.

Because GT5 sold more than Forza 1, 2 and 3 combined. (No i'm not exaggerating, google thier sales figuers) Uncharted 2 is also the 2nd best selling third person shooter this gen with less than 400k behind Gears 2. Not that much of a difference. Please, everyone knows that 95% of the 360 owners including me bought it because most multiplatform games perform better on it, which isn't even the case anymore since Skyrim is the last game to run like crap on PS3 and that is a year and half old game, it's pretty even now. If it wasn't for lazy ass devs i would've bought a PS3 at launch and you would've done that too, don't even bother trying to deny it, fanboy. Also, Xbox won the west? LOL. Newsflash: America =/= The West.

This, but an additional also how can you say achievements > trophies Joey they are the same f*cking thing! let's face it to say that one is better than the other about 2 IDENTICAL things is bloody moronic, and typical fanboyishness But I am gonna use my deductive reasoning to say joe meant gamerscore > trophies which is fair because when I played xbox 360 I loved that gamerscore system, especially being a numbers head again down to personal preference but I would say I prefer trophies. I basicly prefer having an extra bonus for being a psychotic completionist vis-à-vis the platinum trophy, that is what my reasoning for this opinion boils down to

I should point out that every Kinect comes with that game for free so they weren't really best selling games at all since they were technically never sold. simonp92
Both consoles are great in their own ways. I'm a Playstation user and have been so since the late nineties, but the XBOX does have a few apealling titles and features. Sadly those few titles are all shooters which I personally don't care much for, so I'm happy with my current choice.

Ryder 556
Wait, How did the PS3 win "world"? Because the 360 is only ahead in the Americas, and the PS3 is ahead in Asia and Europe, it's a 2 - 1 victory. So the PS3 "wins" the world because it has more ground in more regions. Kinda simple. And I really don't know why I own my 360 anymore. I keep telling myself it's for the JRPG's. But I haven't bought a game for it in years. Just sitting on my dresser collecting dust. thebestgameever
Wait, How did the PS3 win "world"? Ps3 sells better than the 360 in pretty much every other country, despite USA and UK ( which are the two most important IMO in terms of gaining ground) I keep hearing these numbers are BS, so maybe take them wit a grain of salt. I really have no interest in console sales, as long as they are good enough to warrant a next gen console i will be fine. Saying that for me, in England, i hardly ever find anyone wit a 360 anymore. Next gen, i will pick SONY ( will get the xbox eventually, no doubt) because this gen they have proven to me that they provide more quality, variety and just more enjoyable games. ( THIS IS MY OPINION) Also free online is just awesome ( worry they will change this) and to me PS+ offers more for your bang than XB GOLD ( but gold providing online play makes it "better" i guess) I liked my 360 but the only real games i enjoyed were Alan wake and L4D2 ( both which are much better on the PC anyway) and multiplats i get on my PC for obvious reasons. Diggdydog
Just need to pull you up on one thing there, I wouldn't say for a second that the UK and US are the most important for gaming. Japan has a HUGE amount of gamers. Carry on

I was including LIVE which is about $50 a year or approximately $8 a month depending on what subscription package one might choose. Then again you live in that part of the world where PS3 "won". I personally only know two people who own a PS3 but know dozens upon dozens who own 360s. But also I live in Washington State which is Microsoft's home turf and they really go all out in advertising, going as far as to endorse my states soccer/football team as shown below.
