copperrobber
For a Tree Sim game the tree do suck... i dont know why so much effort is put into cars, people and general surroundings... its not like this is an open world crime sim based on cars people and general realisim! Also, reading the qoute... it looks like this is "foreman's" statement/qoute... not Houser? Yes I know but when you read it from a context it seemed like houser said it. Algonquin Assassin
The trees/bushes still look blocky, but they're an improvement on IV's ugly foilage.
vivalavendredi
Houser is right, of course. And look how much changed since GTA III in graphics and how bigger the worlds get. I think what we saw so far looks pretty amazing for such a big open world game that's running on outdated (xbox, ps3) hardware. I'm pretty impressed and I don't understand most oft the people who complain about flowers or other decoration-stuff in the game.
Reiji
I hope there is realistic trees in the game, if not I'm not buying another GTA until it has realistic trees.
CryptReaperDorian
Most trees do look pretty bad in many of the previous GTA titles (aside from palm trees and a few other "taller" trees). However, Red Dead Redemption improved vegetation greatly, and that might have a bit of influence on GTA V. I still don't expect it to be close to perfect, and that's because GTA games tend to have a lot of things to render at any given moment. I don't think GTA games will ever be the graphically best games of their times, but they are almost always some of the funnest. That's what matters the most for me. Honest Bill
I agree with him, they don't really need to be that great, they just need to give an adequate impression of a tree and i'm ok with that. It's not something i've ever really noticed, they are just there in the background adding to the illusion. The ones in the screenshots look ok to me.. As good as most other games. VATG
for some reason the trees and bushes are ugly in all games (beside crysis 3 maybe) i hope they change it in the next gen... and about what Dan Houser said i just don't accept it.
Kifflom112
>.> I for one play it for the trees. I go into every Grand Theft Auto with high hopes that I can sit under a shady tree, drink a tall lemonade, whip my whittlin' knife out and just fabricate me a whistle! Clearly I'm doing it wrong. You and me both, my friend. Hell, I just realized there were buildings in the GTA games last week. I've spent all these years admiring the trees and shrubs and whatnot. I tried playing one of these weird "mission" things then got bored because they didn't mention nor concern my beloved trees. Thanks to the hard work of the game designers, GTA has become a perfect study tool for aspiring dendrologists. I am eagerly looking forward to spending 60 dollars on this game to stare at the bounty of trees and plant life in Grand Theft Auto V. I hope they implemented a sitting feature, so my character can rest his legs as he admires the scenery. Why talk about anything else? I feel so good to be in the company of people who share my views and aren't one of those douchebags who talk about trivial things such as map size, variety in missions, activities, weapons and story length. I mean, who gives a crap about all that noise? It's the trees. That is the only thing that matters. Just look at the Epsilon Program website! "We all come from the same tree". That's a f*cking quote right there, son. If this game does not have trees that are up to my extremely high standards then I will throw myself off the nearest bridge...or, depending on my laziness at the time, a footstool. While not lethal I just might break a toe or finger. I am confident that sending Rockstar a copy of the x-rays will convince them that their lack of attention to in game trees is detrimental to not only gamers, but also society and the known universe as well. Couldn't have been said any better, brotha'.

baguvix_wanrltw
Ive seen quite alot of people complaining(not that much lately though) about the trees and bushes looking ugly and wondering If they ever gonna fix it , i think sam houser had a pretty good statement about that a few years ago. Think whatever your want about this thread, maybe its unnecessary, if so lock it. Anyway heres the statement: "One day, Hoser read on some online gamer discussion board how they said the trees in GTA III looked terrible. He saw Sam's face redden in anger and went over to console him. “Look at these people,” Foreman said, “if they're sitting around looking at the trees, think about how much they're actually missing. It's just not relevant. It's easy to take something in isolation and get beaten up about it. But the reality is that GTA is not about the trees. It's everything in there. Not one thing in there is that great. You have to take it as a whole" I guess many of you have never seen this so. He said that around 2001-2002. Well, Foreman (thx Adriaan) seems to have forgotten about a little thing called "immersion" - or he just didn't believe GTA had any yet back then. Or, like your quote suggests, he simply wanted to console Houser. If you want to sell a world convincingly it has to look convincingly; that does NOT mean photo realism (which is still as far off as it was in 2007 when Crysis was released) but it means if a car is very detailed and a character model is very detailed, a single sh*tty looking tree will make your mind go "pop" and realize something's wrong there. Immersion broken. And for what? To save a few days worth of modeler's time? Save $5.000 maybe? lol. Alright, of course there is slightly more to it than just creating the models; the physics have to work too; but I believe they had rather well working physics/weather simulation in RDR so they had the physics part done already. Free_Jonte
The most annoying trees in gta is the tall trees in san andreas, when I'm trying to fly over the woods, I always crash into the slow spawning trees that are first invisible, but I haven't found anything else that destroys the gameplay. Sure, they maybe look bad in the previous games, but they look improved in gta V, the bushes and the trees looks pretty good in the screenshots. Supacoupe
In a modernized city based game, the last thing that I would look at is trees. I'm driving way to fast to notice them..... unless I crash into one lol.
AtomicPunk
I read it before. The trees in IV were unacceptable. There's trees on Gamecube games that look better. R* needs to make better looking trees, I've alway thought that. There's always room for improvement in all areas. They should let whoever made the trees and vegetation for RDR make the trees for V. DS 17
its 2013, no reason for trees, or benches, or even pieces of garbage to look bad anymore. It IS about the whole package, but that means every little thing has to be good for the whole package to be great. With that being said, I believe the trees in V will be just fine, and the trees in VI will look much more realistic. Game is running on 8 year old hardware. Hardware with very low RAM and still operates games in dx9. Don't expect to see super high quality textures. If you want pretty graphics, invest in a PC and support the mod community that puts out great work to make your games look pretty. Please quit with these sh*tty PC elitist comments. And NFS HP on Xbox did have high res trees thank you very much. Just because he is right? You can't handle the truth, can you? So the statement of Houser is referring to a game which is older than 10 years. Now it's not just a game whole thing we have to see, it's about all the details which have to be in the game and that have to be correct in the game. That's what users are complaining about and R* is still not able to handle this point of view. Unfortunately.
