copperrobber
Ive seen quite alot of people complaining(not that much lately though) about the trees and bushes looking ugly and wondering If they ever gonna fix it , i think sam houser had a pretty good statement about that a few years ago. Think whatever your want about this thread, maybe its unnecessary, if so lock it. Anyway heres the statement: "One day, Foreman read on some online gamer discussion board how they said the trees in GTA III looked terrible. He saw Sam's face redden in anger and went over to console him. “Look at these people,” Foreman said, “if they're sitting around looking at the trees, think about how much they're actually missing. It's just not relevant. It's easy to take something in isolation and get beaten up about it. But the reality is that GTA is not about the trees. It's everything in there. Not one thing in there is that great. You have to take it as a whole" I guess many of you have never seen this so. He said that around 2001-2002. Edit: Gary Foreman said this not Sam, my bad. killahmatic
its 2013, no reason for trees, or benches, or even pieces of garbage to look bad anymore. It IS about the whole package, but that means every little thing has to be good for the whole package to be great. With that being said, I believe the trees in V will be just fine, and the trees in VI will look much more realistic.
Raynos
I thought the trees in GTA 3 were fine, they moved with the wind n all etc. It was pretty complex stuff back then. Looking at it now, Tree do add to the atmosphere of the game but as long as they aren't black and white, I don't see any issues. So far GTA V trees look fine, no issues there. Kifflom112
The trees in V look fine. They could've looked like TDU 2 trees Damn those trees were hideous. V has no problem with this, they've got pines, flowers, oaks, maples, etc.

You and me both, my friend. Hell, I just realized there were buildings in the GTA games last week. I've spent all these years admiring the trees and shrubs and whatnot. I tried playing one of these weird "mission" things then got bored because they didn't mention nor concern my beloved trees. Thanks to the hard work of the game designers, GTA has become a perfect study tool for aspiring dendrologists. I am eagerly looking forward to spending 60 dollars on this game to stare at the bounty of trees and plant life in Grand Theft Auto V. I hope they implemented a sitting feature, so my character can rest his legs as he admires the scenery. Why talk about anything else? I feel so good to be in the company of people who share my views and aren't one of those douchebags who talk about trivial things such as map size, variety in missions, activities, weapons and story length. I mean, who gives a crap about all that noise? It's the trees. That is the only thing that matters. Just look at the Epsilon Program website! "We all come from the same tree". That's a f*cking quote right there, son. If this game does not have trees that are up to my extremely high standards then I will throw myself off the nearest bridge...or, depending on my laziness at the time, a footstool. While not lethal I just might break a toe or finger. I am confident that sending Rockstar a copy of the x-rays will convince them that their lack of attention to in game trees is detrimental to not only gamers, but also society and the known universe as well. Magic_Al
The question is not whether the trees look great but whether they artistically make everything look like it got an equal amount of craftsmanship. It's not supposed to look photorealistic, it's supposed to look like detailed artwork.
Ben73
SoCal has lots of palm trees. How can you f*ck them up and make them look ugly. It's the most simple tree design ever. I do hope the trees and all the landscape looks good though. They have to look OK to make the game feel more real. I'm talking the natural landscape in general. matt_be
This was well said. But I don't think the trees and bushes look all that bad anyways. The only time I really noticed them looking bad was when you were flying in a helicopter (in GTA IV) and you could look down and see trees that looked like this: + Otherwise, they do a good enough job on that stuff. The overall game is what is important.

For "8 year old hardware" Uncharted 3 for the PS3 looked and ran phenomenally. And the trees were excellent as well. http://ps3xboxreviews.files.wordpress.com/...nvironments.jpg Now, I like what PCs can do with games, especially the mods, but you guys talk as if you actually f*ck your PCs as opposed to playing them. 73duster
Houser's statement was right on point. It's about the package as a whole. There's one other important fact. Most of the things that get picked apart come directly from screenshots, or a freezeframe. This type of game isn't meant to be scrutinized in the high demanding detail of a screenshot. These games are meant to be seen in motion. Red Dead Redemption was quite stunning while being played, and i'm sure if you stared at the screenshots they didn't look as good as during motion. Velcomia
None of us play GTA for the trees but game designers should put good detail in their games regardless
TheJasonGallant
Seriously, I agree with houser, who cares about trees if you can do so much stuff? I mean it can't look sh*tty, but it never looks sh*tty... We are in 2013, we never see any very bad graphics... If we compare to what we had before (I'm talking about PS2, PS1...). blakeney
For a Tree Sim game the tree do suck... i dont know why so much effort is put into cars, people and general surroundings... its not like this is an open world crime sim based on cars people and general realisim! Also, reading the qoute... it looks like this is "foreman's" statement/qoute... not Houser?
