Cyberpunk 2077

not only does this look excellent but im really happy about how faithful this looks/seems to the original tabletop rulebook. arasaka, trauma team, the apparent appearances from classes like netrunners and nomads, the 'style over substance' stuff that defined cyberpunk 2020's culture, etc etc. there's so much attention to detail and lore stuffed into this trailer (probably because they have mike pondsmith, the original creator, working on it as well) and it's making me really excited to see how it'll all be depicted.

No, but that's not a bad thing. The comparison with Geralt is a bit unfair in my opinion, because he has 8 books, 2 games and a handful of comics of backstory to the point that he's already a fleshed out character before you even start Witcher 3. Any other new character from a new IP is going to be 1-0 behind so to say. But like I said, it's not a bad thing. Having a completely new character gives the developer way more artistic liberty to shape that character into their (or the player's) liking. On the other hand a major downside to a well-established character like Geralt is that if you don't like the character (and I've seen people who dislike Geralt, which can happen), the whole game becomes a turn-off. You won't put in 200 hours in a game controlling someone who you dislike. On top of that, seeing what CDPR did with entirely new characters in the games that aren't featured in the books, I don't think you have a lot to worry about so far.

Also ''looking like a GTA trailer'' is a compliment in my opinion. Rockstar is one of the few game developers that knows how to make a good trailer.

They got a lot of source material for Cyberpunk

Cyberpunk 2077 is wisely going back to 2020 for inspiration. The most popular edition, it was detailed in a 250-page rulebook, over 30 supplements, two novels, and a card game. That’s a lot of source material, a solid base for launching wild speculations about the video game from. So let’s do that – while discussing what made Cyberpunk 2020 interesting in the first place.

Imagine this game with VR support. If it's going to be, I'd buy the game with the headset instantly. It would probably win Game of The Year in whatever year it's released.

Nice to finally have been shown how this game looks, though I gotta say I'm not entirely sold on the daylight, but of course there'll be nighttime as well and knowing CDPR they probably won't spare on the grittiness. It all looked a bit too clean and polished compared to what I had hoped for, but I still have faith.

I can't wait to see what they're doing with the character classes/physical augmentation, the parts showing robots and people with all kinds of implants brings me much hope as far as character customization goes and how it'll affect gameplay.

ROCKSTAR MANIC

I was excited for 76, but then saw it was online only, no SP story.  This is my only hope for  a proper SP experience on storytelling & adventure. This is the only thing that saved my E3 experience. And a bit of RE2.

According to one of the GameInformer guys who's seeing a preview of the game atm, the game is a FPS. Third person is cutscenes only. Not sure how I feel about that.

If that's true I won't be buying it.

I assume it'll be 30fps on console? Which doesn't feel nice in first person. I assume you'll switch to third person for driving too, cause first person driving is ugggghhh in games like this. Yea, third person driving confirmed in previews.

Hopefully there's an option between first and third person but it doesn't seem like it...

Damage numbers and enemy levels. Hrm. I know it's an RPG and those two things don't put me off at all, but it does sound weird to have those elements in a game of this setting.

It was the real highlight of E3 for me, and I was so excited about it, but this has basically killed any interest I had in the game.

Pasting some of the tweets/details from https://twitter.com/GI_AndyMc/

  • Cyberpunk 2077 is a seamless open world FPS RPG. The city looks crazy with impressive crowds and a clean 80’s inspired Cyberpunk vibe, you can feel Bladerunner too.
  • So much detail in the world, and this demo is filled with a fair amount of story and choice. CD Red definitely doing their thing here.
  • Seeing high tech shotguns and assault rifles, along with a bunch of other powers. Hacking enemies, hanging from walls and pouncing from above with melee attacks.
  • Combat is real-time obviously but your implants give you a world with tons of data overlays on everything.
  • As the demo goes on you really start to feel the world. Looks phenomenal.
  • You are V. Can play as male or female, and you choose your past and it affects your story.
  • You can explore the city with a number of vehicles. Watching a car chase scene now.

https://twitter.com/Andrew_Reiner

  • Cyberpunk 2077 is a first-person RPG. Open world, sprawling city, no load screens. Run and gun, cover-based gunplay. Drive in first or third person. Tons of choice, upgrades. Visually stunning.
  • Cyberpunk 2077 is like Rockstar levels of open-world craziness. Beautiful, detailed, choice everywhere. Gunplay is wicked. Can run on walls, plant into them with blades, drop onto foes, slice  their heads off. Slow time, use mods to control bots. Wow. Wow. Wow.
  • You play as a character named V in Cyberpunk 2077. Choice of male or female, and you get to customize their look, right down to the scars.

Im not down for this first person only, why couldn't they just make it both 1st and 3rd Person, most games do this now. I need to see Gameplay. hopefully CDPR see the demand for 3rd person and add it in. Whats the point of having unique character customization if you only see them for a brief moment?

Not too crazy about first person, but I trust CDPR know what they're doing. All the rest sounds great.

GameSpot info summary from spad3 at ResetEra:

  • Game is FPS perspective
  • FPS perspective made to feel more personal
  • RPG with Shooter Elements not a Shooter with RPG elements
  • Multiple different progression systems (Skills, Perks, etc.)
  • V, protagonist - urban merc/hired gun.
  • Full character creation system (Gender, Looks, Lifepath/Backstory)
  • You DO NOT pick classes in the beginning, class system is fluid based on choices
  • Dystopian Cyberpunk future shown in sunlight on purpose. Full Day/Night Cycle. Noir themes bleed through environment and aesthetic
  • Characters from Cyberpunk 2020 lore will appear
  • Netrunner Techie and Solo are main focused classes
  • You can combine classes
  • Optional classes exist (like Rockerboy and Corporate) and you can pull perks from them to add into your own custom class
  • Story and quest system from Witcher 3 is implemented into Cyberpunk similarly.
  • Choice and consequence is HUGE. Emphasized that the game is an RPG first and foremost
  • Story is personalized by player choice.
  • Combat - Ranged combat and Melee combat. Learned lessons from Witcher 3. FPS Melee combat.
  • Weapons - 3 branches - Power Weapons (heavy hitting/stagger), Tech Weapons (penetrating through cover), Smart Weapons (tracking/following)
  • Vehicles - Motorcycles, Cars, hinted at flying cars.
  • V is a fully voiced character. Both Male and Female completely voiced.
  • V's personality is shaped by player. Backstory and interactions shape V's personality.
  • Cyberpunk is a dark dystopia in the same vein as Witcher 3 being Dark Fantasy
  • Details of the world - everything has a purpose. World design was a huge focus in setting the tone.
  • Night City - in between SF and LA (fictional city). Inspired by both cities.
  • 6 unique districts in the city. Each area has its own feel on top of the base Noir feel
  • Exploration is encouraged.
  • Witcher was horizontally huge, Cyberpunk is vertically huge.
  • You can enter buildings, Mega Buildings exist as well with multiple floors and multiple areas to explore within a single building.
  • No level scaling. 2 forms of XP - Core XP - Main Missions and Street Cred - Side missions
  • Higher Street Cred opens new exclusive vendors and fixers (new jobs)

The megabuilding things sound very cool, they said they're basically micro communities with their own shops, apartment blocks and stories. The six districts have different feels, the region of Pacifica was described as being run down and lawless. Quest givers are called fixers.

It sounds good to me. You're all forgetting that Deus Ex is from first person perspective as well and one of the best games ever made.

Can you enter all buildings?

I prefer my open world RPG's to be third person, especially when they have character customisation but it's not a deal breaker for me. Do sorta wish we had the option though. Excited to see that you create a backstory for your character, it's not something you see often in big AAA RPG's.

Can you enter all buildings?

No, they did say you can enter quite a lot though.

I was hoping to be able to see my character, but I don't mind 1st-person either. It does feel more immersive I think.

You'll see your character in cutscenes. And if TW3 is any indication, you'll get a lot of those.

And who knows, maybe they'll add third person mode by the time the game is released.

Lotta stuff coming out today it seems. Link to the Imgur album of the leaflet they handed out at the previews (source)

Also, cool shot of the city they have at their booth:

Not gonna lie, the news that the game will be first person is kind of a bummer for me. I'm hoping they might go the Fallout/TES route in the end and allow you to switch between first and third person.

Commander S

It'd be nice if there was some kind of toggle for 3rd-person - or maybe do like Destiny, where most of the game was in 1st, but switched to 3rd for the non-combat hubs...

They're getting a lot of blowback about the first person thing across the net but I can't see them adding the option given that the game is seemingly designed for first person and adding third person is obviously not as simple as moving the camera back a couple of feet. They obviously have their reasons for the decision but they might have miscalculated just a little with it, first person is a big deal breaker in RPG's to some. Allowing the option between the two at the very least would've suited everyone. That said, the game still sounds incredible.

They have  3rd person for driving, i feel like they can add it in. they can keep combat in FPS, i just want normal walking around in 3rd person

I certainly would have preferred third person, but with how hyped I am for this game something like that cannot get me off the train.

Everything sounds fantastic from the details given.

Mr. Scratch

I mean the first time I found out about this game I instantly thought of Deus Ex, so it's not a deal breaker. But I was expecting it to be 3rd person after TW games.
