What intrigues me is that the secret message said you could create your own character, but apparently we're playing as someone called V who is a gun-for-hire. So what level of character creation will there actually be? Given the designs we've seen already in this trailer, I think a lot of players are really going to want to go nuts with how they dress their own character, especially if there's a class based system to work with.

Hopefully we'll be able to choose the gender as well. Replay value would go through the roof instantly.

AFAIK, and answering both of the above, it sounds like V will be a similar deal to Shepard from Mass Effect.

CDPR's already confirmed that you can play V as male or female (can't remember the video where they mentioned it in passing), but there's also what might be a look at an example of Female V in the trailer (Male V being front-and-centre in it):

It looks like an identical outfit - which might just be a uniform, but might instead be an example of two different custom Vs...

I want a GTA to go head on with this game the same time it gets released. We can see the big boys fight for the #1 spot of the best gaming dev in the world. I hope cdpr takes a different route than GTA. I don't want it to be GTA 2077. So far it seems pretty good.

CDPR note:

. Quality is the only thing that drives us - it's the beauty of being an independent studio and your own publisher."

God i wish R* dumps t2 one day. They should be their own boss

V might be the character for the class Solos, theres 7 classes, so they probably have characters and missions for each class?

I think the girl with the gun in the ally was suppose to be the player

Bandersnatch

I am actually going to preorder cyberpunk 2077, I have not bought a new day one release game since 2015.  In fact I only get second hand/sale games .

Also want to fully support CD projekt, after what Witcher 3 done to me.

Heh was a time when I had the same respect for R* ! (Sorry to bring up R*).

I probably wanna play as a badass Cyberpunk chick. I hope the character customization is really in-depth, it's something I like to spend a lot of time in.

Just an Easter egg? It would be a waste not to have at least an entire side-quest with Ciri.

Not confirmed by CDPR, but someone is theorizing that the trailer already showed off the character customization for V.

This looks brilliant. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I also, may or may not be more excited for this than RDR2 at this point, especially after that secret message - seems CDPR is one of few "by gamers for gamers" publishers left.

So, the guy who wrote Neuromancer complained that Cyberpunk looks like a GTA skinned-over with a generic 80s retro-future.

It really looks like a GTA trailer both in aestethics and execution.

But I'm not worried about the aesthetics. Not everything in this genre needs to have that stupid neo-noir look where it always rains. People complaining despite never having seen a night cycle... ugh.

what worries me more is characters. Can a custom created character, where we can possibly choose even gender, be as good as Geralt? Shepard was decent, but got nothing on Geralt. Can they replicate the same level of backstories / relationship to the other characters (Yennefer, Ciri etc) with a custom character?

I think the custom aspect will stick strictly to creating a character looks wise and has nothing to do with the story. They are already saying the solo class character is named V which to me sounds like a character with a story built for them.

No, but that's not a bad thing. The comparison with Geralt is a bit unfair in my opinion, because he has 8 books, 2 games and a handful of comics of backstory to the point that he's already a fleshed out character before you even start Witcher 3. Any other new character from a new IP is going to be 1-0 behind so to say. But like I said, it's not a bad thing. Having a completely new character gives the developer way more artistic liberty to shape that character into their (or the player's) liking. On the other hand a major downside to a well-established character like Geralt is that if you don't like the character (and I've seen people who dislike Geralt, which can happen), the whole game becomes a turn-off. You won't put in 200 hours in a game controlling someone who you dislike. On top of that, seeing what CDPR did with entirely new characters in the games that aren't featured in the books, I don't think you have a lot to worry about so far.

Also ''looking like a GTA trailer'' is a compliment in my opinion. Rockstar is one of the few game developers that knows how to make a good trailer.

true, that's the risk you have to take.

that's what made Witcher 3 so special to me. When I started, I knew next to nothing about Sapkowski and the Geralt saga, but I instantly felt the difference to games with no novels behind them.

yeah, that's the decision every RPG has to make: have a tabula rasa like Skyrim or a strongly predefined character like Geralt. I really prefer the latter. I rather play a Witcher than have free class selection for example.

Being "The Witcher" feels unique, with free class selection you have more replayability but it also feels generic imo.

I guess they'll try to find a middle gound with Cyberpunk, which is understandable. I just wish there were more games based on successful book series that give story/characters priority over gameplay/freedom.

It's the same with tv: so many of the best movies/tv series are book adaptions.

That trailer was hot sh*t, shame it'll probably only be out in a couple of years.

Although Cyberpunk 2077 is a personal dream concept (Open-world, vehicles and 80s Futuristic setting) I'm really hoping Cyberpunk doesn't come out at the same time as GTA VI. because I will be honest and say it won't have my full attention if it does. I'm hoping Cyber Punk comes out late 2019 and should keep me fully occupied until GTA 6. No matter how hyped CP 2077 is, releasing it close to GTA 6 is almost suicide and I really hope they don't do that.

I'm still picking it up of course no matter the release date, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

I don't see GTA VI until at least 2021, possibly even later. I'm expecting Cyberpunk in 2020 at this point.

First thing I'm doing in the game is looking for the closest thing that looks like the Blade runner jacket for my character.

The trailer was really neat..I have to admit, it's even more reassuring knowing that CD Projekt is behind the game. A Blade Runner open world style with probably a more advanced living world than The Witcher 3...

R* can't release GTA VI at the beginning of next-gen cause then it wouldn't sell that much.

I'm pretty sure it's either the end if this gen(2020) or we won't see a GTA for like 8 years.

I guess 8 years then, as there's no chance in hell it's releasing in 2020. I don't expect them to acknowledge it's existence until late 2019 at the earliest, and we all know how long it takes for a Rockstar game to be released after that.

I don't think they'll do another double release so it'll be cross gen but developed primarily with next gen in mind. At the very most it'll be announced for a 2020 release and then the inevitable delay will carry it into the following year and a lot of people will definitely buy the new consoles especially for it too.

At least we have this new Saints Row looking effort from CD Projekt Red to tide us over though.

I have to imagine they'll include a whole lot of Blade Runner inspired clothing. Personally, I am hoping to see the neon-umbrellas and the noodle stand!

Also, is anyone really excited by the chatter that we might have a mission on the Moon? Of course I sincerely doubt it will be another city-sized area, given how huge the world looks already. But as missions go, that sounds absolutely incredible.
