So:

- Mismanagement at CDPR leads to crunch, employees speak out anonymously to Jason Schreier who then reports on poor working conditions, CDPR fanboys send him death threats (and bum-rush Jim Sterling to try to downplay the allegations)

- Same mismanagement leads to missing a deadline and having to delay the game another month, CDPR fanboys send death threats to the poor folks working CDPR's social media channels (and presumably any devs on social media)

And the kicker is, I'll bet good money that it's a lot of the same people responsible for both: entitled pissbabies who get irrationally angry because someone dared to criticise the company that makes The Stuff™ They Like, but then also get irrationally angry at the Stuff™-makers for not giving them that same Stuff™ now. Because it's only the Stuff™ that matters to them - f*** the people making it, f*** anyone holding the industry to account, and just give them the shiny toys they feel they deserve. :rol:

(meanwhile, it's never management who ever gets it in the neck from the mob, despite being the root cause of all the trouble - though I'm sure they'll feel appropriately contrite next time they count their millions... :turn:)

It's just the game that matters to them. How the game is made, who made it and what struggles were needed to make it don't matter to them.

As long as they can buy the game on the date the media channel says you can and it's graphics don't look like Ride to Hell: Retribution's is all they care about.

I fully hope Valhalla can cover those few weeks leading to the new release since i'm now considering a purchase

I had actually decided not to get Valhalla, as I wouldn't get to play it much before Cyberpunk released. But now I'll probably get it, to fill the void. Half suspecting this delay to be some sort of cunning ploy by Ubisoft... 🤔

Yea Valhalla quite possibly has just sold a whole bunch more copies on launch day cause of the delay. Ubisoft were very very happy when the delay news broke out I bet.

We feel maybe not comfortable but confident. [...] That's more or less what I'm saying, I guess - yes.

Somehow this statement doesn't elicit much confidence.

It will be released in December though, otherwise the game risks becoming a running joke before it's even out. It's already the 3rd time the release is being postponed, and this time it's the holiday season, the stakes are just too high.

He's not being upfront about what's causing the delay and perhaps he can't be if it's one platform holding up the others. But it's obvious it must be something more serious than just bugfixes and "polish." In any case most bugs will only begin to emerge once thousands of people start playing the game, and will take months to fully fix. So to me it's just saying something without actually saying anything.

They've always been a joke. People need to stop putting so much stock into them already.

I feel like I've said this so many times but I'll never understand why people care so f*cking much about them, and get visibly angry when their favourite game doesn't win or a game they don't like does. Seeing some of the reactions to TLOU2 winning this year has been hilarious, and not in a good way.

This isn't directed at you, btw. Just letting it out.

As for this game, unless it runs really well on current gen, which isn't looking good, it's a definite wait till I pick up the PS5, which I'm in no rush to do. I'm not buying this if it's just 'playable'. Waited far too long for a sh*tty ass version.

None taken. I normally don't take the GOTY awards too seriously, but I do feel like it's usually rewarded to a game that deserves to be put in the spotlight. With that said I think there are games this year which deserve it more than TLOU2, but that's just my opinion.

The Time Ranger

Is this going to be a bit like Gta V where it will be held back due to old hardware, and as a result the finished product may be lesser than if it was developed exclusively for next gen. It sounds like it's really going to push current gen, and will next gen version be limited as the game was created to work on PS4/XBOX1, so the lofty aspirations of CDPR were hamstrung somewhat by having to work with older hardware, I might very well be talking out of my ass here,  just curious.

That's a perfectly valid concern. I'd be surprised if current gen potatoes don't hold the game back.

At the time it was more of a deal because of the architecture switch from 32-bit PPC. Now that it's all x86-64 just like on the PC, it should be easier to upgrade visuals at any time later if performance permits.

More like ...no, exactly like hacking locked doors/terminals in stuff like KotOR, Mass Effect, etc. - because in the case of higher-end vehicles, they've got reinforced bodywork, no window glass, and smart-locked doors, and so your choices are either upgrade your hacking skills to override the locks, or swap to something like gorilla arm implants, and just rip the doors off.

GTA V was straining at the seams of what last-gen consoles could handle, but it was still very much designed to work on those machines - the upside of Rockstar designing their games for console first, and PC after. And personally, that's what I'd consider the correct approach: work out which platforms you're targeting, and then optimise your game to deliver the core experience perfectly well on the least powerful platform. That's why GTA V on current-gen still manages 1080p/30fps on a base Xbox One, whereas things like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Metal Gear Solid V (which was a cross-gen game!) aimed at 1080p/30fps on PS4 as the benchmark, and then downgrade the XB1 versions to 900p. "Cut your coat according to your cloth", as the old saying goes.

And I'm getting the feeling that Cyberpunk isn't even going to be an MGSV situation - it sounds more like Ubisoft at the beginning of this generation, where things like Watch Dogs were developed without knowing the specs of the XB1/PS4, and so they had to guess, working on a PC build to approximate what they thought XB1/PS4 could deliver. Quoting one WD dev about the 2012 preview:

“One thing to remember is that the first showing of Watch Dogs came in summer 2012, before anyone knew what the Next Gen of consoles and hardware would be. We did our best at the time to predict what that would be and always were forward that this first showing was running on a very powerful PC.”

That sounds like the same kind of thing as what's been going on with Cyberpunk, except instead of CDPR guessing what next-gen consoles can do (which wasn't a great idea when Ubisoft did it), they've done one worse: sold the game as a current-gen console release, but developed it as a top-flight PC release first and foremost. If you're going to do the former, then do like Rockstar, and use console as the benchmark, not PC - and if you're going to go PC-first, then don't set console release targets until everything's more or less set in stone, and you can either safely release on current-gen consoles, or wait to see if the next generation can handle a console release.

As it is, the game's getting a £500 special edition Xbox One X, even though the current delay is apparently due to the game having issues on current-gen machines (although to be fair, it's unclear whether or not that just means base-model PS4/XB1, not 1X/Pro as well). Every other bit of news about this game feels like yet another indication of a mismanaged project - and every other bit of news is a lavish promotional tie-in or "influencer" cameo. Right now, I'm half hoping that a disgruntled QA tester leaks something, TLoU2-style, just to rip the bandage off and see what state this thing's in...

Hope the protests in Poland won't delay the game again...
Also, interesting to see how R* will compete their December's "biggest update ever" with Cyberpunk, hehe)

I know it's blasphemous, but I wouldn't be mad if it slipped into early 2021. Might be able to play it day 1 with a new GPU if that's the case. I don't think I'll be able to resist but I have been thinking about waiting until I get a GPU capable of raytracing before playing it, but yea, too hyped to wait for that I think.

^ I might watch a vid of someone buying it, provided there's a queue tussle with proper cosplay, or steampunks showing up.

I've been on a total blackout for ages and still quite brown. By like page 4/5 of this thread I was reminded to anchor any impression about CDPR with many other big companies as default. I'll buy 6+ months after release, as usual; price drops, mods, patches and whatever.
