If TLOU2 wins game of the year, then those rewards really are a joke.

Ffs. This game is gonna come out in 2021 because nothing GOOD legit happens this year. NOTHING. TLOU2 will win GOTY because it's 2020. What game better than TLOU2 to win the sh*ttiest year's game of the year?

I was so ready for this goddammit. I need this game in my life. I had my schedule cleared up and everything. This is worrying. I'm on base PS4 and I guess I have to cancel pre order and wait to see if it's gonna be unplayable or not.

True. 2020- really it had to happen.

Personally, I still have Crusader Kings III, Mafia:DE, Horizon Zero Dawn, plus I haven't even finished RDR2, so I still have lots of games to play and I don't clear my schedule for games anyway. But still, this latest delay is really frustrating even for me. We all needed this.

If they think they need to delay the game AGAIN, fair play to them. They have to live with the decision business wise. It speaks for them to really polish the game.

But it's really questionable to confirm the release date via chat 1 day prior to the announcment. They really f*cked up here.

The Game Awards have always been a marketing tool more than an award ceremony, whatever game wins the award each year is irrelevant when compared to how much money companies stand to make off the show.

Luckily the condition of our military equipment is comparable to a covid patient on a ventilator. Most promising strategy would be to hurl our now exploding cases of Covid across the border with a trebuchet like the the Mongols did wth The Black Death in 1347.

CDPR CEO: "Cyberpunk runs well on PC and next-gen, still working on PS4/Xbox One versions" (More info)

"This situation is different" compared to previous changes to the deadline - the game for PC is ready and plays well on next-gen consoles and the company is finalizing the process concerning current gen consoles."

This is what everyone assumed anyway. Anyone who's gonna play CP2077 on current gen consoles, especially the base models, should be wary of the performance. It's not looking good.

CDPR is obviously not good at planning. Four different release dates so far, it's ridiculous.

The thing I find the most interesting is how they seemingly realized just now that they've also got to test the game on each platform. Like, didn't you know this when you set the November release date? Or the September date? How can you not calculate all the testing procedures into your deadline? It all seems a bit fishy to me and a weak excuse for not honoring the third (!) given release date.

At this point I don't expect or trust it to arrive in December either. I'd rather just have them take it back, do whatever they need to do, then give a final release date when they feel like they can actually honor it. I'm happy to wait for a great game, but setting up several promised release dates you can't honor is not a good marketing strategy. People, including myself, had canceled lots of stuff and taking time off in November just to play this game. Now all that's for nothing. Money's lost. No wonder a lot of people are really pissed off now.

The reality that the game went gold and they still delayed it suggests that this decision was made because the game is not running well on at least one platform, if you were planning to buy this for a current gen machine I would wait.

Man, I'd hate to see the day when this becomes a reality. It's quite clear that the development cycle of Cyberpunk 2077 is a clusterf*ck at this point. Let's just hope that things don't get any worse at CDPR's offices, like, say, the hard drives containing all the game data being corrupted, or something. I'd hate to see all the work that the team put out over the years go to waste. Fingers crossed that the situation doesn't turn into another Scalebound, or Duke Nukem Forever when the game comes out.

My main gripe after watching the latest gameplay trailers was the amount of pop-in, now I know The Witcher 3 was bad for that. Or was that just me with a feck load of mods installed?

The game discs are already printed and shipped out to retailers' warehouses, so some kind of "base build" is forever intact (in whatever shape that's in, that is). A friend of mine who works in a media warehouse told me they got the first batch of CP2077 discs back in August or September. At this point it's all about a "day 0" patch. Surely they must be able to make that work, sooner or later.

Yeah, definitely! He found out when we did, as did a large portion of the employees, I think. Found this Tweet from the guy behind the "Full confirmation"

I fully hope Valhalla can cover those few weeks leading to the new release since i'm now considering a purchase, although i still have Death Stranding to finish off.

We just lost the strongest candidate of GOTY and nothing  will be big enough to compete The Last of Us Part II.

I hope they don't nominate Fall Guys, it's fun, but it's not a "game of the year" material.

I'm surprised how strong the reaction to this news is. It's just a couple more weeks after all. And, as I understand their statement, the game is basically ready but is being held up for release on all platforms at the same time because of issues with the older consoles. It's reading between the lines here as they obviously couldn't directly say this was the problem but I think that's what they're hinting at. It's not the whole game falling apart (hopefully).

Now, CP2077 was expected to be performance-intensive all along. Either on a PC (my case, so I might be a bit biased) but even if you're serious about playing on a console (so are getting into next-gen anyway now or soon), the delay to check all the boxes and claim this game can run more or less smoothly on current-generation consoles doesn't change much in practice: in reality it was always expected to be problematic, and likely not something you'd want to be doing in the first place.

I'm glad they went for designing better visuals from the start, rather than optimizing for hardware that'll be gone soon anyway: hopefully this means it'll keep looking great for many years (just like The Witcher 3 still does now). As I see it, in the best-case scenario other platforms will benefit from these optimizations as well, maybe I won't even have to ditch my old GPU to play it just yet. And the worst-case scenario is just additional some bugfixes. Either way, it's probably worth it to wait just a bit more, compared to how long it has taken already.

On the other hand, of course CDPR have only themselves to blame for making promises they couldn't keep. They were hyping up a day-definite release date for marketing reasons, while it would have been more honest to just say Q4 2020 until they were sure. CDPR is the only major studio to treat gamers better, as actual customers, and not just "users" deprived of any rights, but it still doesn't mean they should get a free pass on everything: "day 0" patching is still a ridiculous practice, and I think pre-orders only encourage such behavior: I'm only ever going to buy a game after it's released.

Overall, the company didn't handle it well. In particular, it looks like the PR people were the last to find out what was going on. Still, it's better they decided postpone the release (which means taking a financial hit, so not a decision taken lightly) rather than ship an inferior product (which is what many game developers would do instead). Let's see how it works out.

What a goddamn stupid move to release it on both gens. They'e probably been showing us next gen screens this whole time and it'll look like GTA4 when it actually comes out.

Ghost of Tsushima.

Well, it isn't perfect, but it has a far better story than TLOU2 lmao

Hahahaha nice of you to assume that it will come out that early :p

I can see this game being a buggy mess on PC as well as consoles tbh. It will be a good game, but it won't meet everybody's expectations. Then again, there will be mods so cut features can hopefully be added in (if they won't be added in by the free DLC, that is).

I'm more frustrated over the implications surrounding the delay than the delay itself. It doesn't sound like it's just a case of them wanting the game to come out juuust right and they're just doing some finishing touches like some perfectionist artiste. From what I gathered, it might run like ass on the current consoles (PS4 Pro XB1X) and they may have to sacrifice certain features or even downgrade the visuals in order for it to perform properly, the former worries me more than the latter. For some reason my mind goes to Shadow of Mordor (which had a cross-gen release), the PS3/XB360 versions completely lacked the nemesis system or at best had an extremely watered down version of it, which was a huge selling point for the game. I don't think CDPR will sacrifice something that significant, but I think something's gotta go on the current gen version, visuals, mechanics etc., and that's the purpose for this delay.

This wouldn't  have been an issue for me because I have the money to buy a next-gen console (it's too costly to upgrade my PC at the moment)... but right now all next-gen anything is sold out, I imagine a lot of people are in the same position as myself. If the current gen version is going to be gimped, I might as well wait for the next-gen version of the game to come out and for the PS5/XBSX to be in stock again, which will probably be in about 3-5 months from now

They've always been a joke. People need to stop putting so much stock into them already.

I feel like I've said this so many times but I'll never understand why people care so f*cking much about them, and get visibly angry when their favourite game doesn't win or a game they don't like does. Seeing some of the reactions to TLOU2 winning this year has been hilarious, and not in a good way.

This isn't directed at you, btw. Just letting it out.

As for this game, unless it runs really well on current gen, which isn't looking good, it's a definite wait till I pick up the PS5, which I'm in no rush to do. I'm not buying this if it's just 'playable'. Waited far too long for a sh*tty ass version.

The year of death threats

Nobody should be getting death threats, especially over a game release date. Is this one really serious though, coming from a barely literate person? If you really have to take any action, you could as well have some fun at the expense of whoever wrote it ("OK. We'll ship you a special copy now so you can get it earlier. I'll need your full name and address." -- chances are someone this dumb will actually take it at face value), point out the faulty reasoning ("If you burn me alive, do you think the game will be released faster?"), the non sequitur ("We never said we were not going to release it."), or at least the grammatical errors ("My finished what?"). Isn't this what Twitter is for anyway?

Otherwise, the best course of action is just to ignore it. I haven't used Twitter for years (and I wouldn't unless it were a part of my job) but I think there's the option to disable direct messages from strangers. Serious or not, going public with all this only encourages more of it.

Anyway, no wonder this game is delayed if "Senior Game Designers" are engaging in Twitter drama instead of working.

So:

- Mismanagement at CDPR leads to crunch, employees speak out anonymously to Jason Schreier who then reports on poor working conditions, CDPR fanboys send him death threats (and bum-rush Jim Sterling to try to downplay the allegations)

- Same mismanagement leads to missing a deadline and having to delay the game another month, CDPR fanboys send death threats to the poor folks working CDPR's social media channels (and presumably any devs on social media)

And the kicker is, I'll bet good money that it's a lot of the same people responsible for both: entitled pissbabies who get irrationally angry because someone dared to criticise the company that makes The Stuff™ They Like, but then also get irrationally angry at the Stuff™-makers for not giving them that same Stuff™ now. Because it's only the Stuff™ that matters to them - f*** the people making it, f*** anyone holding the industry to account, and just give them the shiny toys they feel they deserve. :rol:

(meanwhile, it's never management who ever gets it in the neck from the mob, despite being the root cause of all the trouble - though I'm sure they'll feel appropriately contrite next time they count their millions... :turn:)
