Cyberpunk 2077

In my +20 years of gaming I've never experienced a game being delayed after it has gone gold. It says a lot about the current state of the game. Part of me is wondering if they'll even be done in time for December 10th.

I guess I won't be needing November 19th and 20th off from work to play this game anymore.

Definitely giving this a wide f*cking berth on current gen.

I can imagine all the people that booked time off, especially after it went gold. Tough luck.

Project became too ambitious for current gen consoles to handle it. That's why their lack of confidence on realising it now, they are probably using next consoles as a cover for the game's performance.

Look here, last gen console gamer, you're not getting anywhere without an upgrade."

I feel bad for the people who did all the murals, put up the billboards, and covered the busses in advertisements with "November 19".

And for the devs that found out the games delay the same time as fans...

when i read this headline today, i had to read it 3 times, i really thought its an joke ...

now the workers have to crunch even longer!..

this game went gold, how the f*ck can they delay it after going gold?!..

even in this special "covid" times we have, dont say "bla november release is set in stone, we let our workers have 6-day-weeks, bla" when you cant manage to stay in time, for such a big company they should have planned with a bigger time frame..

i honestly dont believe them in releasing it on 10th december now, i only believe it when i walk into my local shop on this date and hold a physical copy in my hands...c'mon, i wouldnt even be surprised if they delay it again to sometime next year..

they probably want to be to ambitious, releasing it on every plattform you can release it, or/and they probably have too many game-crashing bugs or whatever

behind closed doors there must be a dangerous reason why they pushed it back again for nearly another month .. now people expect even more from them, they walk a dangerous path with this, this game should better not fail for its high expectations and all the hype, cant wait for the (technical) reviews (for xbox one x)

unbelieveable news today, but i guess its because its 2020, what a year...

According to a dev (not with CDPR), the specific issue is probably down to the game having serious enough issues that it only barely scraped through certification, and with the requirement that those severe issues would be dealt with in the Day 1 patch. It's what's called "conditional certification": you've got stuff that doesn't go gold until it gets fixed (either because of one killer issue, or enough combined bugs to hit the failure threshold), or stuff that gets certified because any bugs are few/minor, or otherwise not enough to meet that failure threshold. And then there's the occasional case of something where the problems would constitute a failure, but it's agreed that the Day 1 patch will be enough to fix them in time, so the game gets certified on the promise that the Day 1 patch delivers. So, presumably what's happened is that CDPR got conditional certification, ...only for the Day 1 patch to fail certification.

Certainly happens. The disk cert is usually not for a fully functional game but for a fully functional app. You are supposed to show correct game screen, verify the disk contents, and guide user through patching process, with all the settings and menus functional. You don't technically have to have a fully functional game on disk. Naturally, there's some amount of trust that has to exist between developers and Sony/Microsoft for the later to allow it. Console companies have also gotten much stricter about shipping "coasters", so majority of content (models, textures, audio...) needs to be already on disk. But yeah, that still leaves a lot of work that can be done after master goes out to print in the modern world. You can do final tweaks to game balance, fix bugs, add localization... Basically all the stuff you expect to find in a patch.

And yes, this makes last few months before release suck extra hard for developers, because you have strict deadlines for things, but then you don't get to relax after you finish the deadline, because there's another coming up and you have too much sh*t to do.

Personally, my response to CDPR crunch is going to be waiting a week+ to buy the game. It doesn't hurt what counts as initial sales, which might reflect in dev bonuses, but pre-order and day-one/week-one sales is something that the people who push the schedule watch very carefully. You don't have to boycott a game or miss out on anything to send a message.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

Anyone remember those old Ronco Showtime BBQ rotisserie and kitchen knife TV ads from the 90s/00s?

Now that I think about it, Last of Us 2 will for sure win GOTY. Cyberpunk is now eligible for next year's event.

There was a greater chance of the sun not rising tomorrow than there was of Cyberpunk winning GoTY over The Last of Us 2 and the reason for that is has nothing to do with either games quality.
