I finally have a capable enough GPU (upgraded to a RX6600 from a 1050ti) to play the game the way it was intended so I picked up Cyberpunk in the recent steam sale. Actually, this game was one of the main reasons I upgraded GPU.

I've played it for a few hours and I'm enjoying it a lot. I love Blade Runner and now that this game has been fixed for the most part so it was a no brainer to pick this up. The game is absolutely gorgeous. I've only done the first two quests, most of my time has gone into photo mode.

Some of the things that stand out for me:

Character models are phenomenal.

They captured the cyberpunk aesthetic incredibly well though I still would like to see them go more "darker" in the vein of Blade Runner in the game's next installment. (If there is ever one)

The world feels more alive than I expected. Perhaps, it's because I saw people saying its lifeless so I went in with low expectations. Sure it isn't on the level of RDR2/GTA, but I've sort of made peace with the fact that no developer is going to match Rockstar in that department. I thought it was better than some of the recent ubisoft games for sure.

Voice acting is incredible. I've never skipped a single line of dialogue so far. Also the fact you can move your camera around in dialogues is really neat and I wish Bethesda would take notes from this.

The sound design is fantastic. The ambience in the world feels vibrant and gunfights feel quite immersive.

I've come across only a couple of bugs so far but nothing major. So far it's been a good start and I'm excited to see where this game takes me. I don't want to sound elitist but I truly believe that this is a next gen game. If you aren't playing it on a PS5/Series S/X/high ish-end PC then you are not getting the full experience. Here's some pics of it running on 1080p ultra:

A better way to describe the issue with what people really mean is that the world isn't very interactive.

Using RDR2 as an example cause it's their most recent open world game, I can go into a bar, order drinks, food, etc, or go into a store and pick things up of the shelves and buy them. I can interact with the world by interacting with NPC's, I can rummage through places for supplies, there's a living ecosystem I can hunt in, skinning animals for supplies or selling them for cash.

But in Cyberpunk you really just can't do anything in the open world. There's a few select stores which all have the same generic vendor screen, you can't do anything in the bars and clubs, you can't interact with the NPC's in an any meaningful way, the game has loads of loot containers and computer terminals to interact but ultimately you end up just speedrunning that aspect of the game as it's not as well done compared to something like a Skyrim or Fallout.

I genuinely think as a story driven first person open world game it's absolutely fantastic, a real genuine 9/10 (on PC and new consoles ofc), but much of the rest of the game is dated.

That is true and a very good point. Reading that made me want to launch RDR2 again.

But I think so far I'm really enjoying it for what it is. I think if it came out without any hype it would probably be hailed as an incredible game by the majority. Unfortunately CDPR dug their own grave. Oh well. I really hope they don't give up on this franchise now. There's definitely a lot of potential.

Mister Pink

The game and city isn't as interactive as a Rockstar game but Night City is one of the best cities in a videogame I've ever played. It's even a wonder, we'd even compare it to a Rockstar game, that make the most detailed and interactive cities

I find if you just play the game and do NCPD, side jobs, gigs and missions etc, it's almost perfect. When I get tired of missions I just use photo mode, or listen to NPC conversations, or try climb places the game doesn't really intend you to climb. The addition of apartments really helped make the city more immersive for me. Because I'm still playing through and trying to clear each section of the map methodically. I love the idea of renting an apartment in the part of the city where I'm doing missions. I like to feel like I'm living the area for a length of time. At the end of a long gaming session I'll even travel back to the apartment and go to sleep.

Anyone else play at night in this game almost exclusively? I do. For the longest time when day time arrives I always skip to night. However, lately I've been letting the days go a bit and it's almost like playing another game. There are parts of Night City I've been in a load of times and am only seeing for the first time in daylight!

Apparently they are working on patch version 1.6, it probably adds a bunch more of bugfixes etc. maybe it adds a few more side gigs and other small things to the game.

What still annoys me is if i kill an enemy on a table or something, and the blood pool is just floating like a 2D texture, stuff like this is still very immersion breaking IMO. I hope they fix that.

And the last time i played, like a week ago or something, while playing in daylight time, there are these totally shiny sparkles on clothing, ppl's artificial skin etc. it looks so out of place and is annoying af. I haven't really noticed that before, it's like they added that with a small patch or something.

Some more pictures - I love capturing the NPC's on camera in this game. Second playthrough feels like a whole new experience now that I can run the game smoothly on high settings.

Yeah. The character models are some of the best I've ever seen in any game. Btw what are your PC specs?

Few more shots. It seems redundant at this point, but I'll say it anyways - the game's bloody gorgeous.

TL;DW: Seems they downgraded the graphics a bit but performance has improved. The one moment where it still stutters in 1.52 in the video might be because it's on an HDD not SSD, according to the comments.

Playing through the game again at the moment on my PS5. It is still filled with immersion breaking bugs, but it's tolerable.

I am trying to do as many side missions etc as possible. Some of the side missions are really good, some of the best I have seen in an open world game. The first time I played through I just kinda blasted through the story, I really missed some of the best missions by not doing the side missions.

Am I the only who actually likes the driving in this game? Again I don't think it's on the level of GTA but it beats pretty much any other open world game I've played. I've seen people give a lot of hate for the driving but I quite like cruising around the city. Also, cruising around in a bike in first person in particular is amazing in my opinion.

Few obligatory screenshots:

Only bikes are somehow fun to drive, and we can't even wheelie them. Best car is Caliburn, it sounds and handles pretty good, but still lacks real good handling.

Maybe CDPR learns how cars should handle in a few years, maybe after CP 2077 2 release that works with Unreal Engine.

The engine isn't really made for cars, it's for riding horses.

Night City is the best fictional city to date, that is a fact and it is just incredible to drive around and walk around there exploring all the hidden corners, etc.

However the NPC's are immersion breaking because they don't follow an actual daily routine ... instead they aimlessly wander around or some are just placed in a specific position, doing something specific like a workout and never change that position at all. If you 'talk' to them they will say a one-liner and that's it. Also it feels like there's not many different NPC's because I feel like I'm seeing the same ones around every corner.

I think if you let both CDPR and Rockstar work together on the Cyberpunk franchise it would be the best open-world experience you can possibly have.

Night City is a god damn masterpiece of a fictional city.

I left a replay of this half-way through completion as I got distracted with other games, I should really get back to this especially after some of the minor story/dialogue/etc alterations they did, but then again maybe patch 1.6 is on the horizon...

It's the only game where surround sound doesn't work, i wonder if they ever fix that.

PCM 5.1 doesn't work right, NPC's still talk over the stereo speakers and the surround speakers only work partially.

And DTS Interactive doesn't work at all. Even Resident Evil 5 a very very old game has working surround sound. But nope it doesn't work in Cyberpunk.

Fix the sound CDPR, it is just bad very very bad. Get your sh*t together. FIX THE SOUND!

Same position here - I'm tempted to wait until the expansion, partly because I don't know if I've got the time to do another full playthrough to incorporate the new stuff (since it's apparently folded into a main story playthrough, not something you can play afterwards), and also because of how some of the bigger patches rebalanced stuff like vehicle prices (and added new ones, and properties) without adding more ways to earn money, and so I don't want to find I've left myself unable to afford any new doodads because I blew it all on the existing stuff.

It's similar to how Mafia III's DLC activities arguably work better if you fold them into regular game progression from the start, rather than trying to start them after finishing the base game. For instance, side businesses like Sammy's Bar and the weed farm need you to invest money periodically to get them going, but then earn passive income when they're complete - so if you do them early on in the game, they'll then earn you money to buy everything including anything added with the DLC. But if you wait until the end, you're paradoxically risking not having enough money to finish setting them up to even start that earning passive income, because you spent it on base game stuff that doesn't earn passive income. :sigh:

You might want to lower your expectations for the 1.6 patch.

Every time a new patch is on the horizon rumours start going on about how it's this game changing patch. No idea where they come from and they're wrong every time lol.

I doubt the expansion will be a game changer in terms of the open world (police, interactivity, stuff to do, etc) either. Some new things I imagine but nothing crazy.

Everytime i tried a playthrough of this game i would always get to a certain part of the game (where you meet johnny silverhand) and then id stop playing. But recently with my last playthrough, I’ve gotten the furthest ive ever gotten.

I completed all gigs and now trying to work on the side quest. My character is so OP and that is how i like it, i like to stroll through my missions and not feel like its too hard so now that im strong i dont feel like ill be killed and i can explore and make sure i collect everything in the missions. This is definitely top 5 games ever made.

also i dont know what it is about cyberpunk and steampunk that intrigues me so much.

This was pretty good. For a they/them this guy is a helluva quest designer. He did one of the better quests in the game. They also hint that they'll be talking about the expansion 'soon'.

My two cents for the driving: it's really hit or miss for me. With some vehicles it feels like V floors it when you just sligtly tap the gas, some vehicles feel like they're driving on ice and some handle without any problems. I mostly drive the somewhat slower vehicles because they handle the best, plus I usually am in no rush to get to my destination. Bikes all handle pretty good though, no complaints there.

I decided to pick up the storyline again. Already finished up with Hellman in the desert, now it's time to visit Fingers. As always a few screenshots:

Driving cars is... rough. It's not great at high speeds but it's really bad at low speeds which is why I pretty much exclusively only use the bikes in the game, which are genuinely quite fun to drive.

Dunno what it is with driving in urban open world games but I've only ever played one series where driving has ever felt good... you all know what that series is.

I almost exclusively ride on bikes as well. They're just so handy to weave in and out of traffic and alleyways and up stairs in some cases.

I never minded the driving in this. Thought it was OK to pretty good. Miles better than Watch Dogs which is just attrocious.

The driving is meh in cars, yeah. I tend to still use them though to appreciate the details that got pumped into the vehicle designs.

Hopefully we get a look at the DLC and not just a discussion.

...I was going to say "it'd be cool if they added some extra things - even just clothing items - based on Edgerunners", but then I saw the video, and it looks like that's actually happening (V wearing David's yellow jacket at 0:14, for one). If they go so far as to have David and Lucy's full outfits, that'd be ideal (hairstyles too?) - I'm liking the look of Edgerunners more than I thought I would, to the point where I kinda wish 2077 had a bit more of that bold style and manic energy, at least in parts:

Also, "Night City Wire":
