...that said, there's one quote in that article that's setting off my spider-sense somewhat, which I didn't notice earlier:

“You see that there are bodies in the tub, and you need to take care of this woman. But at the same time she is augmented,” he continued, searching for the right words. “She is not clean. Maybe she is augmented too much. Maybe the humanity level is pretty low in her, so it’s an interesting topic."

...erm, what?

I worry a little that they might be going down the 'less human = moar bad' route - not least because we already have people making use of synthetic parts in everyday life (a prosthetic arm/leg doesn't make someone 'less human' - !!), but also because ...goodness, that's hackneyed.

It's definitely true that augmented perception/thinking/etc. would logically shape how you interact with everything and everyone, and thus people who have those kinds of enhancements aren't necessarily going to act like people who don't. Shades of Tam Elbrun from Star Trek, a powerful telepath who had a seemingly-abrasive personality - because when you can instantly pre-empt what people are going to say and do, watching them take aaages to actually say/do it gets frustrating... Likewise, he found an unlikely companion in Data, an android, simply because Data had no organic mind to read - that meant Tam could interact with Data on an equal level (also helped by Data having an incredibly fast positronic brain), as well as not having to try and filter out every stray thought coming from other people's wandering minds.

That all goes back to my problems with Detroit: Become Human - that game is full of moments where David Cage had a 'cool idea', and was apparently so pleased with it that he didn't bother to actually explore the ramifications of it, or make sure that there weren't any unfortunate unintended things that could be read into any of it.

In this instance, it's one thing to have, say, some puritanical types or cyber-Luddites, who see augmentations as making people 'less than human' - because that's their opinion, not the writers'. But while yeah, fine, a writer is perfectly at liberty to hold that view themselves, the implications of that when reflected back on the here and now are ...iffy:/

Or at the very least, the priorities shifted to the point of transaction, rather than supply - or put in a way that makes sense (:beerhat:), less about stopping people stocking things on shelves, and more about preventing sales of adult-rated products to minors.

As in, it only makes sense that a kid would get turned away at the counter trying to get in to see something like The Wolf of Wall Street at the cinema - but it'd be daft to just ...ban it from being screened outright. :sigh:

And it's really daft in Cyberpunk's case, considering that CDPR is apparently aiming for ...decidedly clinical nudity in many places. For instance, V is nude in the character creation screen - it's essentially somewhere between a medical diagnostic thing and a car configurator, and so treats the human body in pretty much the same way as a weapon upgrade screen, with that same matter-of-fact-ness.

That's a much more genuinely mature way to handle nudity - 'mature content' all too often just means "heh - look, boobs!", so it's encouraging to see a game that's for adults, not horny teenagers "adults". :rol:  So yeah, banning something like that because "it's corrupting our youth!" is missing the point spectacularly.

:p

Incidentally, that all rules out the possibility of a 100% organic V - I suppose that was to be expected, considering the classes, and how augmentations make for a good in-universe way of contextualising otherwise non-diegetic 'videogame-y' things like HUD icons, skill upgrade points, etc.

Speaking of which, I do rather hope that while augmentations can be swapped out, we don't get to tinker with things like base stats too much after launch. I was re-watching the Errant Signal review of Fallout 4 the other day:

Spoiler

...and the whole bit about how rigid stats allow for better actual role-playing (as opposed to just 'levelling up' in order to become more powerful, regardless of how little sense that makes...) stuck with me when reading up about this game. I'd like to think that with Mike Pondsmith involved, and with the game drawing upon his work, it won't fall into the trap of seeing skills as abilities you constantly improve, instead of a way of making a defined character using game mechanics.

For instance, it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to shoot a bunch of people, level up, spend those experience points on charisma, and suddenly go from 'tongue-tied' to 'master orator' in minutes - that's just not how people work! :p

It'd be really good to see things like setting V's 'cool' either high or low, and seeing how that affects those different takes on the character - someone who never flinches during a gunfight, and instantly commands respect simply by entering a room, as opposed to someone who keeps putting their foot in their mouth, and has to keep their neuroses in check under pressure (or resort to external means to do so).

Not sure if this was brought up already, but support of nVidia ANSEL was confirmed on Twitter. Guess it was a given with Witcher 3 having full support as well, but still. Can't wait to shoot. :)

Also a CDPR Dev sort of confirmed that they will be showcasing a demo at Gamescon 2018

I love all the juicy info I've read so far. A less fixed and wonky Deus Ex with fast paced combat and light Titanfall mechanics? Count me in.

Glad it's first person, an optional 3rd person would've been nice but you can't have everything. Besides, if it was 3rd person, I'd be the first guy to beg for an optional 1st person mode, even if it's just for looking around.

Yea 1st person only seemed like an odd choice when it came out but once you read all the details and game info you realise they went all in on it, it's built around the perspective and wouldn't have the same feel without it. It sucks a bit that we have char customisation and stuff and won't be able to see that all the time, but we'll see our char often enough it seems. Really hope they get the photo mode in at launch (or nVidia Ansel) so we can take snaps that way as well.

This game is shaping up to be like the proper Deus Ex sequel that we never really got, despite the relative success of Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. In general, Cyberpunk is helping to keep my faith in singleplayer games, with CD Project Red truly doing the lord's work now that Bethesda and Bioware are flirting with their online/multiplayer bullsh!t. So far it seems like 2077 has nailed the formula; the world building, the lore, the characters, deep RPG elements, consequences, morality, and some very refreshing originality.

Could they have sat back on the grand achievements of Witcher 3 and recycled half the assets into a spinoff? Easily. But as a studio, CDPR actually had the courage to try and do the impossible, to create a title capable of surpassing what most already considered their masterpiece. And amazingly, it looks like they could pull it off.

CDPR has my all my trust after Witcher 3 which is probably my favorite game I've ever played. This is definitely the kind of gaming studio we need these days, one that focuses on singleplayer and not multiplayer is very rare these days.

Idk if this game can surpass Witcher 3, but it looks so damn good I wouldn't be surprised if somehow it does.

Also, they established the first ever DRM free digital distribution platform. hand_salute.png

Yup - not just that, but GOG (formerly Good Old Games) is also a fantastic site for older game preservation, too.

It's nice to be able to get something like Wing Commander III for pocket change - but to have people put in the work to have it run better than ever (via the DOSbox emulator), as well as someone going to the trouble of scanning all the old manuals and pamphlets and including them as a PDF (!!)? That sort of thing is really valuable, particularly considering how terrible most publishers are when it comes to maintaining their older titles.

I'm pretty confident this'll be 'imagine a cross between Human Revolution and Mass Effect 2, made by the Witcher 3 folks, to their usual exacting standards' - but I'm really hoping they get the world-building and 'speculative fiction' side of things down, to the point where it's more 'imagine something that blends the best parts of Mass Effect and the original Deus Ex'. That'st the ideal outcome, obviously - even if it's 'just' the former, this is still so very much my jam, and I can't see how it won't at least be 'really darn good'.

Definitely gonna play it as a female char. But im kinda dissapointed it's 1st Person only, i rather play RPG's in 3rd Person. :(

My guess for the official release is late 2019 to very early 2020. A shame really that it's still so far out of reach this awesome game.

...okay, figured I'd do this, because very few places seem to want to join the dots between the preview screenshots and the various accounts of the demo footage.

HERE BE SPOILERS! Granted, the demo is more of a 'proof of concept', and might not show scenes from the finished game, but still... ;)

Turns out that a lot of the pics are of things from said demo, and not just the trailer - for instance, this is V's sometime mercenary partner, Jackie Welles:

Cyberpunk2077_A_gun_for_hire_RGB_EN_f53e

Spoiler

screen-ready-to-get-back-to-the-big-leag

Going to put the rest of the pics under spoiler tags, just because these are the full 4k screens from CDPR, and RIP anyone trying to view this on a mobile device... :p

This is almost certainly V - specificially, one possible female V (maybe the default face?). According to Outside Xbox's report, there are a lot of variations of shaved-sides punk-y hairstyles, which is appropriate! ;) Also, your jacket is customisable (and you can wear other clothes besides just the outfit shown so far) - right down to not just the colour of the collar lights, but also a separate glow colour from the main light strips. Wow.

Also, V isn't your character's name - it's a nickname/handle/whatnot, presumably so CDPR doesn't have to record hundreds of alternative lines of dialogue! Think along the lines of how Commander Shepard works in Mass Effect. However, like how you can choose Shepard's (unspoken!) first name, you can actually pick a full name for V, which is cool.

(also, first look at one of the bikes - apparently flying cars and the like won't be available for regular open-world free-roaming, but you can get around how you like on foot, or by car/bike)

Spoiler

screen-just-around-the-corner-en.jpg

Also, I know that not everything seen in the trailer is relevant to the demo (the premiere event thing, what looks like some kind of passenger jet, the bar with people playing pool, etc.), but ...does anyone else reckon this could actually be another possible version of V? Same eyebrow slits, a gun behind the desk, and a wall covered in tabloid front pages - that all looks to me like the apartment of a private investigator or similar, and the demo does mention V getting dressed and ready in her apartment after a one-night stand...

Spoiler

screen-beautiful-and-deadly-en.jpg

In the opening of the demo, V has to investigate an incident of "Scavengers" - i.e., a faction of augment harvesters (!!). The wealthy victim had an emergency SOS implant as insurance - if their vital signs go down, or their implants are threatened, an alert is sent out to the authorities (perks of being rich...). However, the gang prepared for this, and deactivated the device.

Another perk of being wealthy? You can request the services of the Trauma Team, a private service that works like a mixture of paramedics and SWAT. In the demo, they come in, secure the area after V has a shootout with the scavengers (by which I mean "everyone on the ground, now!" - including the victim - !!), and only then administer medical attention:

Spoiler

screen-shock-to-save-shoot-to-kill-en.jp

screen-trauma-team-en.jpg

Later, V gets tasked with obtaining a Militech spider-mech for some wealthy "fixer", Dexter DeShawn - V sees this gig as a ticket to moving up in the world, as DeShawn will take her on for contracts if she succeeds. One of the options is to just steal the mech, or you can arrange a meeting with Militech agent Meredith Stout, and try to play the situation politically. I'm guessing this is Stout:

Spoiler

screen-different-faces-of-violence-en.jp

The spider-mech is being held by a group called Maelstrom, a tech-obsessed faction that seeks to augment themselves as much as possible. Reports from the demo describe members as having completely removed parts of their faces, replacing them with various sensory augmentations instead of regular eyes, noses, etc. - that'd describe this guy, then (shown with one of the aforementioned spider-mechs):

Spoiler

screen-the-hottest-tech-in-town-en.jpg

Also, before V sets out to recover the mech, she goes to get some upgrades from Victor, one of the various "ripperdocs" in Night City (some legal, others ...not so much...). Victor is shown below - from the various accounts, it sounds like CDPR has done some neat in-universe things to show the upgrade process. For instance, getting an optical implant upgraded requires it being pulled out, and (apparently) you can see yourself lying there through the still-active implant - !! New upgrades will do things like add extra HUD elements, depending on what you choose.

Whether he's being 100% truthful, who knows. With that being said, as much as I love Ciri I don't need to see her in this game.

I wouldn't be opposed to seeing her in the background for a brief moment during a cutscene, but that's about it.

Motherf*ckers. The game sounds incredible, the more details emerge, the more happy I am. Not just because it's made by the Witcher devs. Even if EA did it, I'd still be interested.

I couldn't agree more.

I was devastated by the loss or halting of Deus Ex. To me, that series was almost perfect. It's criminally underrated. I mean, we know people are looking for a good cyberpunk game yet, a lot of people haven't experienced Deus Ex. Hacking computers, crawling through vents, multiple approaches, stealth, RPG ..future sci-fi music, atmosphere and a realistic "what if" dystopian view of the near future. Actually, if anyone reading this hasn't tried Deus Ex, try play the last two games. Give them a few hours to warm up and you won't be disappointed. Some quality gaming before Cyberpunk comes out.

Love walking around these kind of futuresque cyberpunk worlds. Deux Ex has got that neo-noir vibe which I was hoping Cyberpunk would have.

On that subject. Cyberpunk seems to be bright and fun like GTA V. Was kind of hoping for the grittier neo-noir style of Deus Ex and Blade Runner. What do people think about that?

Im not sure it matters, the more you hear  about the game the more it sounds like you will be able to view your character as much as you did in Far Cry 5. They already said all dialogue options will be in FPP which leads me to believe most cutscenes will be in FPP.  They keep emphasizing that you will be able too see  your character in the inventory menu which is not a good sign.

Yeah it doesn't look good. Not to harp on about Deus Ex but that was mostly in first person and then when you latched on to walls/got cover, climbed ladders etc it went into 3rd person. I hope CDPR will implement something like this. Call it "blended first-person/third-person view" or "blended perspective" or something.  Would be a total waste if we have character customization and never actually get to enjoy seeing it much or at all.

ANYONE can make it dark and rainy and neony. We already knew we could do that. We wanted to prove that it can be the Dark Future ANY TIME OF DAY OR NIGHT.

Mike Pondsmith

I remember hearing/reading that, and I appreciate that. I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining. I mean, this will be great. I just hope the day/night cycle is longer, more drawn out. Because sometimes I like to play missions in GTA at night to add atmosphere and a sprinkle of realism (if we are to assume that certain missions would normally be done a night in the cloud of darkness). Oftentimes, when I'm just getting ready, or in the middle of something when the sun starts coming up and pretty fast too.

And/or hopefully, we time-progress like in The Witcher/Skyrim/Fallout

I played Deus Ex for the first time last year and enjoyed it. My play time was almost 70 hours. But I tried Deus Ex: Human Revolution a few months later and did not get into it at all. The notes that I took afterward list weapon mechanics, movement mechanics, and bullet sponginess as primary complaints.

My initial reaction to the FPP was this...

4AzkCCI.gif

... now, this is not because that I hate FPP, but I just can't play FPP.
Few minutes in game and I will have a massive migraine attack. Not fun while you're trying to have fun.

However, I wanted to play CYBERPUNK 2077 sooooo much, that I will still be buying the game, and try to play it.
I am hoping that CDPR will reinvent FPP game play and I and many others with the same problem with FPP can and will enjoy playing this game.

If the problem still persist, then may be some one, a mod wizard, will make a mod that will allow TPP gameplay.

As far as The Collector's Edition, I weally weally weally want it to include a statue of the kneeling female cyborg with them spiky arm blades.

I weally want her to sit on my... err... gaming desk. That would be super awesome... ................ gaming desk ......................

I hear ya. And I didn't like it at first at all. But then there were classic missions like infiltrating the bank and the gang compound where I found some insane "hidden" way to break in and complete the task. I would give it another go. At least just do it for the story. I thought it got better as it went along. :)
