PS3 Overtakes 360

The report also highlights that just this past December, Sony's PS3 managed to surpass the number of Xbox 360s shipped worldwide (about 77 million vs. 76 million), despite the PS3 launching a year later. While many hardcore gamers are now waiting for the next-generation systens from Sony and Microsoft, IDC noted that Nintendo will still "find an audience" with Wii U, reaching global bundle shipments of 50 million by year-end 2016.

I should have known better than to assume that the majority of gamers would be over the "my toy is better than your toy" school-yard mentality by age 18. Neither 360 nor PS3 have any significant advantages over each other. In fact, they are weak, outdated machines that are holding the gaming industry back.

I'm not trying to instigate a platform war here, so I sincerely hope I don't accidentally cause one, but it should be noted that nowadays, the capabilities of hardware evolve more or less every year. Whereas with consoles, from the date of release, your stuck with almost the exact same hardware for the coming six to seven years. During the coming six to seven years, your stuck with games that vary dramatically in terms of quality of programming, draw distance, anti aliasing, and frame rate (not that PC ports nowadays are all that good but you get where I'm coming from).

PC hardware can continually be upgraded as technology progresses and as system requirements demand as long as the connection interfaces used by your motherboard continue to be supported by new hardware and as long as your PSU can handle the current draw required.

Also, PCs are very easy to repair should physical hardware problems arise. Components can easily be removed from their PCI Express slots, PSUs can be unhooked and unscrewed et cetera and replaced if proven to be faulty. In some cases, they can even be refurbished with replaced parts, either returned to the consumer or put up for sale.

Most manufacturers of non-factory pre built still place quality high up on the list of business priorities. Avoid trying to get good deals with cheap brands or model numbers that have been discontinued for unknown reasons, exercise common sense and you'll likely have a rig that's doing good to last ten years or more even if not upgraded.

With consoles, the user has no control whatsoever over internal hardware and components are not designed to be troubleshooted, repaired, or replaced. The pre-Slimline PS3s were peices of disposable throwaway turds that were a disgrace and embarrassment to the Sony brand name. I have one stashed away in the storage room in my house with a known motherboard flaw awaiting demolition and disposal. The current production models are better, but sorely lacking in features found on the pre-Slimline models.

Lastly, with PCs, you have the benefit of well, having a computer. With consoles, because they are dedicated mostly to gaming with a small amount of the effort going towards limited multimedia capabilities (DVD, Blu Ray, hard drive video, hard drive audio, pictures, Netflix, Facebook, et cetera). With the PC, you have the benefit of well, having a computer which can do all of that plus a theoretically unlimited number of other things.

Every platform has its ups and downs and personally I love my Slimline PS3. Specifically just about everything about it including the controller and the Blu Ray capability. The only thing that really pisses me off if the sh*tty graphics and framerate in Grand Theft Auto IV and the DLCs. Besides a long list of graphical and technical advantages, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV has some serious drawbacks such as the mandatory installation and running of bloatware and mediocre resource efficiency.

Not really no. The PS3 still has loads of potential to be unlocked.

And the PS3 and 360 have been constantly over taking each other for the past 3 years or so now.

If anything is holding the gaming industry back it's Nintendo.

Well call it petty, But i'm glad it's surpassed in sales just because I think it's better than the Xbox in many ways and this just mean Sony has made plenty of money to ensure a PS4.

This has been a long time coming though, PS3 has out-sold Xbox week to week for the last 3 years (except at Christmas.)

See this is why I have a PS3 and a 360. I feel sorry for people like the OP who limit themselves with a "my dick is bigger than yours" mentally. I used to think Playstations were better too until I grew up and saw the benefits both had the offer. Now I have twice the choice to choose from. Want to play Uncharted? certainly. How about some Forza? or Gran Turismo? Heavy Rain? Alan Wake? and it goes on.

I mean you act like you just won an academy award. confused.gif

Am I the only one that absolutely hates it when fellow owners/fans of his favourite console act like this? I think it's f*cking embarrassing to be honest. confused.gif

Yes, I prefer the PS3 over the 360 but really, both are good mate. No need to act like this. smile.gif

Yes, I know I was a rabid PS3 fan(boy) in my first 4-5 months on this forum but believe me, I changed.

The reason why the full potential of the PS3 has not yet been unlocked is because of it's difficult GPU architecture. It has loads of potential capabilities, but they aren't being realized for said reasons. Both sides of the argument have a point.

I'll lock this obviously fanboyish topic for now while I contemplate whether or not to ban the OP for this magnificent show of sheer idiocy.
