No Offense, but that Shark Looks like a Non-Factor

Dropping facts =/= trolling. Got it.

All I do is speak the truth, and that's not about to change, not for you; not anybody. I've posted maybe a dozen times in the last 6 months, and already you're acting like I'm a problem on this board that needs to be banned.

I bet the mods are annoyed as hell with the majority of you, should the lot of you be banned simply because you said something that annoyed them at that particular time? Stop being ridiculous.

Trolling is all subjective anyway, and it's thrown around so loosely nowadays that its no longer a viable excuse to ban someone. Though it is not my position to speak on what does and doesn't constitute a ban, I have personally offended no one. So back off.

how dangerous is that thing?

Getting stung by it could EASILY kill you. And one type of jellyfish is believed to be the most venomous creature on Earth.

But on topic. It really doesn't matter how big the shark is. In my opinion there has to be a reason the thing got that big. It's not because it can't catch prey..

you make some points, but you are forgetting something: IT'S A f*ckING GAME

Seriously, not everything has to abide to real life physics, especially in a game where you can fall safely in water from hundreds of meters, take rocket launchers out of your pocket, and survive a thousands of gunshots.

The thing I find funny with ArcaneKnight's post is he admitted to have watched shark documentaries so he doesn't know the first thing about the way a shark behaves because he's not an expert in the field.

Hey I watch tons of forensic science documentaries. R*/Team Bondi completely messed up LA Noire because I'm a forensic criminologist that knows more than they do. confused.gif

In a game where we pull rocket launchers from our ass or fall from great heights without breaking bones I'm sure R* can get away making this species of shark a predator. Who's going to say "oh man that's so unrealistic" if they're attacked by one?

Remember it's a GTA game where the lines of reality are stretched. It's not Pacific Ocean Explorer Simulator 2013 bro where everything is as it should.

do you honestly think the game will be accurate with something like this or is this topic just to flaunt your knowledge of sharks?

Orca's don't exactly strike you as a particularly fast or agile animal, they look cumbersome and slow. But they're powerful as hell and can certainly swim fast (about 55 km/h). That picture (of the in game shark) is just from one angle as well, it's pretty hard to judge it when you don't see the whole thing. And they might even change the way it looks in the final game.

Not to mention that weight has very little bearing on speed in the water. If it was that cut and dry then all sea predators would be small and agile.

It might've fooled you all, but it didn't fool me, not with that caudal fin it didn't.

Sh*t, I've just been fooled.

Horrible comparison. Ever heard of Shamu? Have you ever seen the trained Killer Whales that perform at Sea World?

Have you ever seen Free Willy? That was a Sea World trained Killer Whale that did its own stunts, it cleared a 15-20ft wide rock jetti on command.

They're extremely agile and powerful creatures, and their sheer size makes it all the more impressive.

Look how pathetic that things tail fin looks in comparison to the rest of its body. You all really think that caudal fin is going to generate the kind of power necessary to propel its massive body through the water to be an efficient hunter? That thing is a sitting duck in the water, and no more dangerous than a 25ft Python that is in the beginning stages of digesting a 200lb deer.

And you all talking about it being bloated because it ate 7 bodies, then it's obvious that thing is being fed tied up victims, and not actively hunting its prey, making it a much less menacing predator if you're out there swimming on your own. Powerful sharks can make swift movements and turns in the water effortlessly because of their extremely strong tail fins. This sharks tail fin is puny, and I bet a U-Haul truck has a better turn radius. This thing is there to intimidate with sheer size, not based off its true hunting capabilities. The mathematics involved in the coding won't allow for that thing to be an efficient killer.

It might've fooled you all, but it didn't fool me, not with that caudal fin it didn't. I'll tell you that much right now. When I play V I'm not going to be concerned with that shark whatsoever. I bet that thing could easily be out-swam and is only good for maybe 1 bite attempt.

You need more things to fill out your day don't you? Plus I think it's the angle of the pic. Look at this the tail fin looks tiny compared to the rest of the body.

I doubt it's even going to be a certain species of a shark. Just like any normal game it's just going to be a shark. No specifics, just the general shark.

Uh yeah, the guy you quoted was saying they look like they are slow, but they aren't. That looks can be deceiving. You just tried start an argument with him and "prove him wrong" even though you were restating what he said.

Lol It didn't actually jump over the rocks itself, that was all CGI. Anyways, aren't you contradicting yourself here? You banged on about how it didn't look fast, so according to you that means it obviously can't move very fast. Then I present you an example of something else that doesn't look fast, yet moves at incredible speed and is a complete and utter killing machine. And you seem to pretty much be agreeing with me on that? Doesn't that prove that your point is basically untrue...

A sharks tail fin runs vertically, a whales runs horizontally. You don't know how massive the fluke span of an adult killer whale is, and how much thrust their massive tails are able to produce.

It's like taking the propellers off the engine of a little speedboat, and throwing them on a cruise ship, do you seriously think those little ass propeller blades are going to do anything at all to make that massive cruise ship move? Regardless of what the HP of the engines that are powering them are? It might move it slightly, but I'm sure the current would have more of an effect on the ships course.

That shark will do little more than flow with the current.. LMAO

Are you really that scared to make such a topic?? Are you really that stupid??

Dude, why don't make a topic about a dog. I saw in documantaires dogs will attack you if you look at their eyes.

There are big brown fluffy bears. If you lay dead, bear will go away.

This one gets me the most

lmfaoooooooooooooooooooooo. You're right. Rockstar fooled us. They clearly designed this shark to look petty and non-menacing - however you go about making a shark look non-menacing (maybe draw a moustache on it or something) - and how they designed it will affect how this shark acts in gameplay.

Oh jeez. This threads really are getting ridiculous.

You're right here. It'll just be a generic shark. Also why in the world would R* show it in such prominent screenshot if it's as harmless as one of the flying rats in GTA IV?

Truth be told not everyone knows or cares about the way certain sharks behave. The general consensus in movies/video games if you see a shark you gtfo of the water before it makes a happy meal out of you.

This shark will be dangerous. I guarantee it.

It's like a 550lb Siberian Tiger that has learned to adapt, hunt and survive in the wild, as opposed to a 900lb captive Siberian Tiger.

Yeah if you're strictly looking at the numbers, you might say you'll take your chances with the 550lb Tiger, when in reality that would be an absolute deathwish. You'd be dead before you even knew what hit you, whereas the 900lb Tiger might not even know how to kill you.

That shark looks like a shark they barely released from captivity. Not of a shark that has been surviving on its own developing and fine tuning its predatory instincts over millions of years.

Maybe its proof San Diego will be in this game? They have a Sea World in SD, maybe the shark escaped from Sea World? Ever thought of that?

Hmmm, did it walk out and rob someone of their car also?

I don't think a shark would have anything to do story wise or anything important at all, but might be used as an intimidation factor for someone that you captured (and later fed to the shark)

what if its the 4th protag wink.gif

Everyone is acting like they're going to be terrified going into the water in V knowing that thing is out there. But honestly, it looks like a complete non factor.

I've seen tons of shark documentaries, specifically those based around Great Whites that patrol the waters of Seal Island. I know for a fact that the shark we saw in the screen shot is not that of a shark that is fine tuned to be an optimal predator.

That thing looks bloated. I highly doubt that shark can even breach the surface to hunt prey if its life depended on it. Its main form of attack is to surprise its prey by striking from below, and I'll tell you right now that shark is not going to be building any kind of momentum to mount a formidable attack from below whatsoever. Its raw power seems to be nonexistent.

Face it, that shark is a scavenger at best. Its not menacing at all, if there is a defense button or maneuver of some sort that you can execute I'm sure you could easily stiff-arm that thing out of the way and simply veer it off course and it would be too lazy to turn back around and make another attempt at your life.

I don't see the power in that shark, the ferocity, the thing that makes a Great White so menacing. It just doesn't have the IT factor. It's the very thing that strikes fear into anyone that goes so close as to even drop a toe into the water without believing there will be consequences. A mechanical shark from the 70's in Jaws did that, a fake CGI'd shark in Deep Blue Sea accomplished that. But a shark from the most realistic game engine known to current-gen consoles failed to trump even those feats in 2012-13?

Sorry but I'm not that impressed. Not that it's going to prevent me from buying this game, but just felt like it's something I had to throw that out there.

Its rather amazing to see how the many people here have missed the humour portrayed in the OP.

I really liked the part about the sharks tail not being big enough to propel it for an attack, lol good stuff.

Really..? He's being serious.. Dang it, Sarcasm is very hard to detect on the internet.. and so is the lack of it.

I've read a few of his posts etc and I've always found them rather amusing.. thinking he was being sarcastic. I've always found it fascinating that he never broke character.

However, Now it seem that you may be correct.. regardless, you're right, lol there is quite a bit of humour in reading the responses.

lol those pictures of that guy saying "Oh no, We've got an expert here" lol.. turned out to be a great topic after all.
