Fail_At_GTA
If they're making the shark extremely life like, it will probably attack if you're swimming in its area a lot. If you're thrashing about, a shark will think you're a wounded animal (most likely a seal) and attack you for food.

poiuytrew
Everyone is acting like they're going to be terrified going into the water in V knowing that thing is out there. But honestly, it looks like a complete non factor. I've seen tons of shark documentaries, specifically those based around Great Whites that patrol the waters of Seal Island. I know for a fact that the shark we saw in the screen shot is not that of a shark that is fine tuned to be an optimal predator. That thing looks bloated. I highly doubt that shark can even breach the surface to hunt prey if its life depended on it. Its main form of attack is to surprise its prey by striking from below, and I'll tell you right now that shark is not going to be building any kind of momentum to mount a formidable attack from below whatsoever. Its raw power seems to be nonexistent. Face it, that shark is a scavenger at best. Its not menacing at all, if there is a defense button or maneuver of some sort that you can execute I'm sure you could easily stiff-arm that thing out of the way and simply veer it off course and it would be too lazy to turn back around and make another attempt at your life. I don't see the power in that shark, the ferocity, the thing that makes a Great White so menacing. It just doesn't have the IT factor. It's the very thing that strikes fear into anyone that goes so close as to even drop a toe into the water without believing there will be consequences. A mechanical shark from the 70's in Jaws did that, a fake CGI'd shark in Deep Blue Sea accomplished that. But a shark from the most realistic game engine known to current-gen consoles failed to trump even those feats in 2012-13? Sorry but I'm not that impressed. Not that it's going to prevent me from buying this game, but just felt like it's something I had to throw that out there. now, i can respect much pedantry beyond the call of reason, but you sir, have taken the whole cake and stuffed it down your trousers, metaphorically speaking U mean he sh*t in his pants? no, i was more meaning that for all the people who love to go off on petty tangents, yet get infuriated when insane concepts are put forward (having your cake and eating it), he has mocked everyone in a very deadpan way leaving some getting actually annoyed (taking the cake and rendering it inedible and unable to be possessed by shoving it down ones trousers)

MrcTOtheJ
Okay while you have, some Valid points, you do realize, this is a video game? This shark can be sitting on it's Fat ass eating bonbons in some Sea Cave watching the TV, then when you coming poking around Rockstar could have it pull a Machine gun out of it's ass and have it shoot you. The point of that Exaggeration is that it's a video game, Rockstar can have the shark attack you even if, it is (and this is just a paraphrase not a Verbatim quote so excuse me if it isn't 100% Accurate) 'A bloated Scavenger.' That said I'm not one of those people afraid to go in the water, personally I hope they leave you Be most of the time and rarely attack unless provoked or mistakeing you for something else. But in all honesty I'm also fine if they do seek me out, as long as I have a way to fight back actively...unlike with Far Cry 3...

RoadRunner71
How the f*ck can a shark escape from it's tank? Jump over the fence? Think before you post something stupid. Facepalm They are held in tanks, but they can be moved from tank to tank by opening up chambers, where from there they can be transferred out to sea. So you think before you post. Nah, the question is, why would R* care about making "a shark has scaped from the tank of a zoo"... too many people with a lot of free time creating threads I guess

ajrunke
Are we this bored? This desperate for info? Please Rockstar. Announce the release date already. Well since this thread is completely useless, I have no objection to going off topic. Don't you find it odd that with R*'s loose "spring 2013" release date, that there is such lack of detail / gameplay? Honestly, for a game that COULD be released as early as March 20 something-ish, that lack of info / gameplay is disconcerting. This seems like a game that will be pushed back. ArcaneKnight
Back before IV came out, Didn't Rockstar say they were taking the franchise down a more "Realistic" route? Or did they not? IIRC I'm pretty sure they did, so don't give me that crap. Stop making excuses for Rockstar. GTA isn't that fake cartoony game anymore, they're all about the realism now. The physics just won't add up if that shark can maneuver swiftly and powerfully throughout the water being as overweight as it is. It will look fake, unrealistic and it won't be scary at all; it will be utterly laughable. It will look like it is glitching and that will defy everything Rockstar wanted the new age of GTA game to stand for when they decided to go down the realistic route. That was a change they decided to make for good, there was no going back on it. You can't just flip flop back and forth on those themes between titles. Unless of course you all are saying Rockstar is going back on their word about the realistic approach to their franchise in just 1 game?

There are more than just one species of whales and sharks incase you experts weren't aware.. Plus I really don't think they're going to reveal everything they can about the game before it's released, I mean obviously they have a sub-aquatic ecosystem so for you to assume this creature is the only thing we'll see in the ocean you'd have to be stupid. This is why a majority of the screenshots have been in the same location just different angles, they simply want to keep things under wraps. Inky
Unless of course you all are saying Rockstar is going back on their word about the realistic approach to their franchise in just 1 game? Realistic approach is one thing, but that doesn't mean that the entire game is going to be 100% based in reality with true to life physics, ballistics, etc. I think all they meant by that was when compared to the previous GTA games they'll be taking a more realistic approach (as opposed to the rather cartoony styles of the previous titles), not trying to make the game as real as possible. You're going off of real life facts/assumptions. How about this... Bears don't hunt in adult packs, and generally run away from people. Wolves also tend to usually run away, and coyotes almost never try to attack people. Most snakes will just slither away unless cornered. That didnt stop RDR from making animals the way they did. streetx1xracer
Maybe its proof San Diego will be in this game? They have a Sea World in SD, maybe the shark escaped from Sea World? Ever thought of that? Yeah that was a blunder its still early here. I know SD will be in the game, so maybe its proof Sea World will be in the game and this is proof of a shark that escaped captivity? 1) do you realise how far SD is from LA 2) sharks are part of the wildlife off the west coast 3) R* already confirmed multiple times los santos is the only major city. So idk how you still pick out details of more cities in V
