Stig
Hey everyone, I've been looking for a good VPN service that is also (you guessed it) free of charge. I've been using GoTrusted and I like the way it functions, it's a simple one click and go type of deal, but I would like to know if there's anything out there that works in the same fashion but is also free. I'm cheap.
sivispacem
proXPN are well regarded free VPN providers, but VPN connection security is hardly unbreakable if someone is packet-sniffing or deep-packet-inspecting somewhere on the line. If you need full anonymity, use onion routing via TOR. Oh, and if you have encryption options, don't use MD5 or SHA-1. Given a packet capture, a large enough rainbow table and a few hundred dollars worth of Amazon AWS cloud time, I could crack either in about 24 hours or less, regardless of strenght. That's uh.., totally awesome and all, but I'm not really trying to browse the web anonymously. I just want to get on my favorite server in a game, which proXPN on a basic account cannot handle with a 300kb limit. Not to mention the ads it throws at me about every 35 seconds to upgrade. Thanks though man. Any other suggestions? Edited January 9, 2013 by RadioIsotope
sivispacem
Why do you need a VPN to connect to your server of choice, out of interest? I assumed it would be for anonymity reasons purely because you're going to be getting a performance hit regardless of circumstance and limits using a VPN client purely because of additional routing and encryption. You could always try OpenVPN, but they cap free usage at 100mb per month- most if not all of the free providers throttle either via transfer rates or overall capped limits. Heh, I got banned for mouthing off It's just a work around for the servers IP ban. Yeah, the current VPN I was using I'd have to try and match the IP they tunneled me to to the closest I could get to the servers IP location wise. Sometimes it was a little better, sometimes it was far worse, but it never was perfect. I'll have to give that one a go and see how it compares, thanks again Sivi. sivispacem
Wouldn't it be easier to just connect through a proxy, rather than going the whole hog of unnecessarily encrypting all your traffic and wasting bandwidth?
