jdcod
In my laptop, I am having 20-30 FPS, and many lag spikes. Laptop specification: CPU: Intel core i3 RAM: 4 gb GPU: Nvidia geforce gt 620m - 1gb OS: Windows 8 Benchmark: Statistics Average FPS: 26.76 Duration: 38.00 sec CPU Usage: 87% System memory usage: 73% Video memory usage: 77% Graphics Settings Video Mode: 1366 x 768 (60 Hz) Texture Quality: High Texture Filter Quality: Medium View Distance: 32 Detail Distance: 70 Hardware Microsoft Windows 8 Single Language Microsoft Windows 8 Single Language Video Adapter: Intel® HD Graphics 4000 Video Driver version: 9.18.13.1090 Audio Adapter: Speakers (Cirrus Logic High Definition Audio) Intel® Core i3-3110M CPU @ 2.40GHz File ID: benchmark.cli All other settings (shadow, texture..) are medium. I have searched on this forum before posting. But all those topics are old and won'e work. They can give +5 fps I know that my laptop is not very good but can anyone give me solution by which I can get atleast 35-45 fps.
luceberg
Update to the latest patch 1.0.7.0, or 1.0.4.0 if you don't want to play online. 35-45fps is not realistiic for your rig. Turn off shadows and night shadows will improve it though.
Andreas
Well, yeah, your laptop isn't very good but you should decrease the detail distance because they need some CPU power as well if I'm not mistaken (haven't played GTA IV for a while, you know). What about the vehicle density? You shouldn't increase it to a value that is higher than 10 considering that you have a dual core processor. And also if you don't have already installed any patches then you should try to download patch 1.0.4.0 here and install it. The shadows of that patch are still grainy but it's the patch with the best performance. Note; if you have no patches or patch 1.0.1.0/1.0.2.0/1.0.3.0 then you should install the patch if have suggested you. If you have patch 1.0.4.0 or anything higher then do not install the patch I have suggested you! If you have a newer patch then you can not downgrade which means you would have to uninstall the game and then install it again to install the fourth patch. I have decreased everything (vehicle density, shadows) but it doesn't help.
jdcod
I can't get more than 30 fps in city (even after installing patch), can u guys suggest me other tricks/software to improve framerate?
Andreas
Okay, then try the following settings: Resolution: 1280 x 720 Texture Quality: Medium Reflection Resolution: Medium Water Quality: Medium Shadow Quality: Medium Render Quality: Low View Distance: 21 Detail Distance: 10 Vehicle Density: 10 Shadow Density: 0 Definition: off Vsync: off You should should how the performance is and look if it's still unplayable. If any settings are lower then the ones I have suggest you now then leave it as it is now but everything else that is higher than the suggest settings needs to be lowered. unc13bud
thanks for typing all of that, original poster, try this: Resolution: 1280 x 720 Texture Quality: Medium Reflection Resolution: off Water Quality: low Shadow Quality: low Render Quality: Low View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 10 Vehicle Density: 1 Shadow Density: 0 Definition: off Vsync: on
jdcod
Thanks again for replying. My current setting: Resolution: 1366 x 768 Texture Quality: Medium Reflection Resolution: ? Water Quality: medium Shadow Quality: low Render Quality: ? View Distance: 10 Detail Distance: 30 Vehicle Density: 20 Shadow Density: 3 Definition: on Vsync: on Only setting texture quality to low helps to improve fps, but the game looks like GTA III , xD If I set texture quality to low, I can get up to 35 fps. Benchmark says 32.55 fps. @unc13bud: I already tried those settings. But resolution, water quality, detail distance, vsysn won't help to improve frame rate. unc13bud
my bad then. i think you are going to have to just test with memrestrict commandlines. and i mean test for like 5 or ten minutes. sometimes i will change a graphics setting and won't see the effect until ten minutes later (drove or went to different area is maybe the cause)
jdcod
I am still having this problem. My average GPU temp is 75(when running GTA IV) and CPU avg temp 70. Should I overclock GPU/CPU?
luceberg
It's a laptop, so it is not overclockable.
Extronic
It's a laptop, so it is not overclockable. lol? its as easily overclockable as the regular pc. Note that you have to keep an eye on GPU/MB temperatures, cuz once its broken youll have to replace it or just stay with the brick.
unc13bud
My average GPU temp is 75(when running GTA IV) and CPU avg temp 70. that is too hot for laptop, buy a cooler. the way you can tell if it needs cooling is how? the laptop's fans running less
vmnoodle
according to benchmark it says your GPU is intel HD 4000 . You probably have a Nvidia Optimus based GPU which switches to intel HD during normal use and Nvidia when Graphic intensive stuff like Gaming , now it looks like when you play GTA its not switching to the Nvidia GPU , so you can try the following steps --- manually change the graphics from the control panel of Nvidia Software to Nvidia GPU . --- update your GPU Driver
