More athletic protagonist? What if...

In my opinion, Niko felt pretty slow in GTA IV. It bothered me at first, but it wasn't the biggest deal once I got use to it. What really bothered me was when so many people started claiming it was more realistic. Most people in my family are natural athletes and I've always been a fast runner. I could easily see Franklin with a background in sports. It doesn't have to be anything crazy. Maybe he was a football or track star in HS, but got pulled into crime which f*cked up his college sports career or something like that.

I don't really care about the sports aspect as much as I want at least one character to run faster and jump higher. They could all be natural athletes and that would be even better. I just think of Franklin because he's the youngest and he's black. It will be weird if all three are slow. And people call Michael fat, but I see people with his exact shape running marathons. And maybe Trevor can get extra strength and speed from...speed?

What do you guys think?

Niko felt pretty slow in GTA IV.

I felt Niko was twice as fast as Johnny, which isn't the case obviously but he was faster, Johnny was really slow I have to say.

As for Frankiln being a former athlete, I don't know but I'm pretty sure he will be the fastest out of the trio, he just seems more fit than Trevor and Michael and No, I'm not saying this because they're "old farts" or whatever little kids in this section call them. lol.gif

I've always been involved in athletics too, as well as my whole family so I feel like it frustrates me a lot worse than most. I know what you mean. I HATE how Niko had like a f*cking 3 inch vertical and probably ran a 7.5 second 40. The lack of agility was even worse. So bad that it was UNrealistic.....they need to fix the side-to-side movements. It would be ridiculous if I (in real life) were to try to make a quick cut to evade someone and instead ran in a big f*cking loop. It's retarded.

Since this is a video game I want to run as fast as Usain Bolt and swim as fast as Michael Phelps because no one can say that its not humanly possible.

Johnny has a limp so that's understandable. Personally I have no problem with the way Niko moves. It's far, far more convincing than the "rocket shoes" type of movement from the GTA III era.

He's not slow. The physics just aren't as exggerated and over the top like a lot of games are.

It should be somewhere in the middle, I dont want to play as a player with a limp ever again.

Shiiit not as far as strides go. And yeah of course people can't cut on a dime in full sprint and lose absolutely no speed, but an athletic person can do so without losing much speed at all. "Far, far more convincing"? No sir

It should be noted aswell Niko isn't an olympic runner. He moves about as fast as someone without a athletic background.

Yet neither were Claude, Tommy and CJ although the physics were so over done they ran faster than some cars. That's what I mean by "far, far more convincing".

Why not Michael as ex athlete? Seriously. If I recall, Ned Luke's personal stuff on Facebook and Twitter before he went private was pretty much all sports. It wouldn't surprise me if both he and Franklin were very athletic. Trevor we already see doing athletic things in trailer 2. But I would be willing to bet that they are all three very capable protagonists. More-so than Niko and the rest of the IV era guys.

As much as i love the physics for the most part in GTA IV I thought they went overboard with Niko. I dont think him not being an athlete is an excuse for his rather sluggish movement.

I like the realism of the animations and physics R* went for but they need to tweak this in GTA V. Make the protags a bit more nimble but not so much that they play like previous generation characters did.

The physics could be better definitely, but I don't see them as "sluggish". The only time it frustrates me is when walking through a door, but even RDR was a bit unresponsive at times too.

Still better than the GTA III era, but there's room for improvement.

Yeah, this is basically my point. I could understand if Niko isn't the most athletic guy, because that's just not how they designed him. I just wish they designed him to be more agile.

I agree GTA IV was more convincing in terms of physics and the running fits into that as well, but I just want faster protagonists. I just think the gameplay is a better when you can move faster and jump higher. I don't want R* to say "well this character is slower because..." Why would they choose to do that when they could make the characters faster for a reason that makes sense in the real world?

@gottafeedthebeast, I agree. They all could be former athletes or just naturally athletic.
