Storm Slider
- All drivers updated to latest, including GPU. - Patch 1.0.7.0 Intel Core i7 2700k 3.5GHz/4GHz/4.5GHz Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1866MHz MSI Twin Frozr IV nVidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit I'm gonna disable boost technology. I just want my CPU GHz to stay at 3.5GHz. Also because I have plans to OC. How much FPS would I get for this setup when my CPU for when it's 3.5GHz/4GHz/4.5GHz. Just wanna know if OC'ing would be worth the extra heat and power. Edited January 9, 2013 by Storm Slider

tom455olds
You can max out the benchmark but there will be drops in game. It will be playable but not smooth all the time with everything maxed out. The game is still cpu limited.
luceberg
- All drivers updated to latest, including GPU.- Patch 1.0.4.0 Intel Core i7 2700k 3.5GHz Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1866MHz MSI Twin Frozr IV nVidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit If I can max out on patch 1.0.4.0, would I also be able to on patch 1.0.7.0? Yes, you could "max out" on patch 1.0.7.0. It puts the shadows more to the graphics card than 1.0.4.0, but your system can run either.
Andreas
Yeah, you will be able to max out the game but don't expect a perfect performance because it drops pretty often and the game suffers sometimes from stuttering even if you have a high ammount of FPS. But that's because the game isn't good optimized so you can't do much against it. tom455olds
No matter how much you over clock it will not run smooth on max settings. You can have over 100fps in some areas and then have drops into 30s fps. Its playable on max settings but I can notice the drops. Have to back the settings off a little for it to be totally smooth. Just like Carl CJ Johnsons Brother Brian said.
luceberg
I do not agree that it cannot run smooth. I get between 30 and 50 fps, mostly 40's @ 1080p and the game is smooth is most all conditions, just when the police start after you and the hud goes pink there is a slight stutter. A faster cpu does help, so long as the graphics card can manage it and your's can. The higher you clock the cpu, the more you need to turn down graphics settings, like high not very high and night shadows off and others not max. tom455olds
When frame rates drop into the 30s its noticeable to me,like a bit of hitching or stutter. Its not bad but I think its better for multiplayer to back things off a hair. You will get drops in fps into the 30s on max settings even if you overclock. Andreas
If the framrates drop from like 50FPS to 30FPS then micro stuttering will definitely happen because the game represents suddenly in the next second a significantly lower framerate so it's inevitable. The problem is that micro stuttering can even happen if you have the most over the top graphics card and play the game with 60FPS. I can remember that someone from this forum claimed (I believe it was robi, the VisualIV modder, and/or the founder of OpenIV) that 50% of GTA IV's code is from XBox 360 and the other 50% are just code from PlayStation 3 which would pretty much explain why the game was so badly optimized, even on PC considering that GTA IV was just a port from the consoles. TenEightyOne
You'll get very good performance overall... but don't expect to be silky smooth everywhere. You could run GTAIV on a stack of Crays and still get stutters. It's just not well-developed for PC, I'm afraid.
unc13bud
the only way i seen it run smooth (x4 [email protected], gtx 480, samsung 830) is lower the settings. that reservedapp 0 command is some fire though! wooo i think all toronto did was bump up the high resolution textures and create the multiplayer component. i played EFLC once or twice with lower spec computer (x4 925, gt 640, crucial m4 64) on parents' tv @ 720p, now that was smooth, and looked beautiful

GTA EfLC has improved it and it also has some graphical optimizations like less bloom, less blur and some other minor tweaks. GTA IV was Rockstars first openworld game in HD and it didn't run well on consoles and considering that the game was only ported to the PC platform, it is not a surprise that it runs not very well on PC. I'm sure that Rockstar got rid of all problems with GTA V.
