gta5freemode4eva
My god I hope they DONT change the handling from 4, I know they are changing it, so I hope they only make small subtle changes. GTA 4s' driving/handling was pretty much spot on. The races I've had were fantastic. The people saying that the cars felt like boats I think get confused between handling and the camera following the car. When the camera moved to keep the car in the middle of the screen it did make it feel boat like, but it wasn't the cars handling, it was the sway of the camera allowing for direction and suspension and speed of the car, not the car itself. PLEASE DONT CHANGE THE HANDLING/PHYSICS R*... THEY WERE BRILLIANT IN 4!!! If they change it by loads and make it worse/silly/too arcadey/too racey etc etc... it will kinda ruin it for me. If they give us forza horizon/nfs most wanted (original) handling or ofc gta 4 handling then I'll be one happy boy!!! (31) Please don't get this wrong Mr Houser. Don't fix what aint broken! The handling and physics in 4 made off roading and hill climbing VERY realistic + very enjoyable. To get up some of the off roady hills that I got up you had to get the suspension bounce correct to give the car grip at key points. You had to make sure the engine was spinning up yet with good timing make sure the wheels weren't spinning again to get the grip... FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT CHANGE IT R* You know that horrible feeling in your gut when you think that something bad is gonna happen.... Not really. Although they are enjoyable to drive, I compare the cars in GTAIV to boats because the understeer tends to be exaggerated at relatively low speeds and braking feels like the car is being stopped by an opposing resistance rather than its own brakes. Even Dan Houser compared the cars in GTAIV to boats, and don't think he, of all people, is confused about controlling the camera vs. handling the cars. We thought they were big and boatlike in GTA IV, and we feel like it has really leaped forward because we're able to run a little more physics on them. There are not a lot of high level racing games out there at the moment, and that itch is going to be scratched by this game in a way maybe it hasn't been in previous GTAs.”

I agree with you as well. We were all new once to this site at one point and time...but to stay on topic I think the driving will be pretty good. I just hope they add a cruise mode like the Saint's Row series. That way I can drive within the limit of other cars on the road. If not I can easily live without as well I just think it would be nice to have so I can take nice scenic pictures like a car driving down a freeway with the sun setting over the ocean. But that's just me...

All I am saying and hoping for is more refined driving physics... not a complete overhaul. If they thought it was boat-like in 4 then I don't understand why they would've released it like that. The other way they may consider it to be boat-like is because the suspension was sometimes over exaggerated and the cars got 'air' too easily. As long as they refine it and not completely change the physics it then it should be cool... I guess I've been waiting for this game for ages and I've got high expectations so I just don't want them to muck it up.

Matticus88
I think its been said that the cars in V will have similar handling to IV, only this time the suspensions wont be soo soft and the cars will fell more solid and grip the road more. As your new, bit of advice, Just ignore anyone saying stupid things too you. They normally go back into their troll caves eventually.
vivalavendredi
I kind of liked the driving in IV. What needs to be improved (for me) - the sound (especially from trucks and bikes) - the grip of the cars (they said they did it in V )
ITSLOCBABY
The majority doesnt mind because the majority turned into whiny little children who complain about every single thing and suggest the stupidest things. Literally the only decent suggestion in the past months was a speedometer. Well go start a new topic about how you're not gonna walk on the cracks in the pavement or something. First post and you make him feel like a d*ck. Nice one

thebestgameever
Out of everything in the game, I honestly think the driving, which is A MASSIVE MASSIVE PART of GTA is also one of the most important. IV was like 95% perfect with the driving handling, yes some cars rolled a bit too much but on average it was something that would not be a problem if people knew how to drive properly in game. I watched many IV videos and most people who play it go full speed into a corner, turn and tap the break like for 1 second and expect the car to make this 90 degree turn at such a high speed and obviously they crash and blame the game... Not their own inability to learn the physics. Its very simple and FUN once you got the hang of it. IV's driving had real depth to it, from how you can lock your tyres if you used the break to hard( causing you to slide and crash), the more realistic feeling acceleration ( because all cars did not reach top speed in 3 seconds, it made every car feel different and unique) to how some cars kept on the road better and were more sturdy than others ( comet was better at turning at high speed than your average car or your truck). The driving felt more dynamic, thrilling and it allowed people with actual skill to shine ( like breaking early and NOT fully pressing the break, meaning the tyres did not lock and skid, allowed you to turn a corner A LOT better than others who did not do this and crash) It allowed people in average cars beat and outrun those in super cars basically simply because they knew how to properly drive. I KNOW some people want a easy pick up and play game, but the games like that last a few weeks top. Open world games like GTA are meant to last a long time. Improvements can be made, higher top speed, better suspension, less traction and maybe better grip ( I WOULD REALLY LOVE IT if these options were buy-able in game at the garage, so on average cars are like those from IV but if you spend money and you mod it in game with new engine, tyres, suspension etc... you can make it corner and drive better and handle easier)
Kifflom112
Yeah I agree @thebestgameever. But some cars, like the Schafter, come equipped with Anti lock braking, so you can brake as hard as you can and turn precisely. ABS was one of my favorite features. Loves GTA
Hopefully we see nothing more than some slight tweaks that IMPROVE upon what was established in GTA IV. To me, GTA IV's driving was nearly perfect. If GTA V driving physics are more like older GTA's, or like in LA Noire, that will be a severe disappointment, and a huge step backward in my opinion. MARKUS.
I hope it's closer to a realistic driving feel, I'd really love it!. IV was good, but like Rockstar said, it looks like driving a boat
kingbob182
I used to hate driving in IV when I first played it. Now I'm weaving through traffic at huge speeds, drifting through crowded intersections and loving it for the most part. The thing that bug me though is the soft suspension and the feeling that the cars were pretty light and bounced around with small bumps on the road. Raynos
OP. I share your exact concerns. GTA IV IMO has the best driving in any open world game to date! I actually thought GTA IV's driving was more immersive than Midnight Club. Rockstars comment about it being changed to be more "Racing" did raise a few of my eyebrows, However, I trust they will not disappoint. One of the major aspects of GTA V will be the driving.. If they get this wrong.. then one can only hope that the flying will at least compensate for it.. If not. I will be VERY disappointed.

bobdude100
I wanna be able to drift a import tuner car properly for a long while without loosing momentum if I keep the right angle.
