Kifflom112
Well, every place is going to have negatives about it. Sometimes the positives outweigh the negatives and to me, that's the case with California. You got Pacific Ocean and beautiful beaches, mountains, forests, lakes, vast deserts, flat countryside, rolling hills, big cities, sports and entertainment. If I want to surf, snowboard, camp in the mountains, drive through the desert and see a Raiders game all in two weeks time, I can. California is just so diverse and that alone attracts me to it. Camping/Off roading in the mountains or woods deeply interest me. I hope we can steal RV's and camp outside of them. And then the mountains. Whether in a Serrano or a mountain bike, it's gonna' be so thrilling to off road. All of the rugged terrain, scenery, I just cannot wait. I also hope we have towns to go to. There should be a town on the wooded border of the lake. It should be just some nice little town with lots of pines, lovely views, old wood structures and cottages, random gas stations, and a classic coastline state route running through it with lots of rigs and rv traffic. Would be cool. Yea man, imagine if we can put an atv and a sanchez in a trailer and tow it behind an RV. Just campin' out for the weekend. I really hope there is sand dunes because I would love to take a dune buggy to those suckers. That town you mentioned could be like Big Bear. I'm a bit excited for this game haha. I wonder if that is similar to the town.
gtamann123
gtamann123 - Wow, great story about your uncle. What field of work did he get into? I imagine this is going back about a couple decades but still good to know. CaptRobau - Good points. About Grapeseed though, I was thinking it resembles the country and farms outside of Oxnard. I'll put you down on the bottom of my topic that you mentioned Brawley though. Yeah it was 70s-80s. He got some small time acting roles in a couple of movies but it never really panned out for him. But he met some good people an made some connections and worked his way up to a Forman on some construction projects. He was making some pretty good money but he moved back home for some reason. Not sure why though I have never asked him.

The Hippie
Kifflom112 - That could be a neat little place. When I mentioned Big Bear, this is the picture that came to my mind. gtamann123 - That's interesting. I wish I had the guts to pack up and hitchhike my way out to Cali like that. He should of stayed aha.
DarrinPA
If GTAV is only Los Santos and 'smaller' towns - people who hated GTA SA's countryside are going to really hate GTAV. I'm guessing San Diego or some other larger towns will be involved.

I loved and it's better than all city in my opinion. man dragon - Rancho Cucamonga was inside the LA map link in my first paragraph. I'm looking a bit further away from LA. The Hippie
After seeing the trailer for Trevor, and seeing the sign "Sandy Shores", first thing that I thought was Desert Shores California. Initially I thought the home for Trevor was Slab City, or Salton City. Desert Shores is located just a tad North of Salton City. Also, from the other trailers I'm not seeing much as far as other cities are concerned. I still have hope that they are hiding a bit of the map as well as other communities. Out of my list in the OP, I want to guess atleast one place right, haha. I think a place like Oxnard still has a chance with the "grapeseed" like farm land. Or Big Bear if they put a village in the hills.

The Hippie
I don't know if we are going to get a city South of Los Santos now. Many people want to see San Diego but I just don't see it. It seems to me the Northern part of the map is much more of a mystery. I'm still putting my hope in a place like Oxnard, or a city in that general area. It seems like the perfect fit for "Grapeseed". Malibu or Santa Barbara would be nice as well as a long Pacific Coast Hwy. knockoff that has a parody of the Bixby Creek Bridge. But as far as south of Los Santos, I don't know. There has to be something down there other than just a bland coast though. Orange County? Suburbia? Newport Beach?
Fallout3
I'm still clinging to hope that SAN FIERRO AND LAS VENTURAS WILL BE IN IT EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. I KNOW IT WILL BE IN IT SO YOU PEOPLE DON'T TELL ME THAT IT WON'T. I KNOW ROCKSTAR DOESN'T DISAPPOINT SO THEY WILL ADD IT. I'M 100% SURE THEY'RE GOING TO ANNOUNCE IT SOMETIME SOON. IT AIN'T SAN ANDREAS WITHOUT DEM TWO CITIES *Twitches eye*
The Hippie
Kifflom - Well judging by the guys on the mapping thread it doesn't seem like much is going to be down there. Although, maybe we could get a small beach town. I've said Oceanside in the original post, but that was a complete guess. I'd like to see something down there but I wouldn't count on it. Fallout - How much would you be willing to bet? Nah, just kidding but I wouldn't be so sure of yourself about that. Also, another note. I remember hearing that there is a military base in the game, from the last previews. I've said Edwards Air Force Base, so maybe a place like Lancaster or Victorville are still not out of the question. If the desert carries on North beyond the mountain range. I could see us getting another desert town, to go near the military base.
hobodealerr
I live in Victorville (born and raised) and it's sh*t compared to living in Lancaster. Also, the reason we have so much sex offenders coming in now is because our Government sends them here after they finish prison. My little sister was almost abducted right outside my house 5 years ago and that was in the "nice" area. So thanks a lot Government. So f*cking helpful to my life! Since 2008, after the economy failed, all of the undesirables have moved over here due to section 8, cheap rentable houses, and of course thanks to that f*cking prison. A perfect example of why Government is BAD FOR EVERYONE. (Except the leeches of course) We get snow sometimes, for example we just got snow last winter. It was awesome. We have the Mojave River as well. It's mostly windy over here, for example it was 82 but it was so windy the air felt nice and warm rather than hot and humid like it does in the L.A areas. I went to school in hesperia however, since it was safer and a little nicer there, but according to the local paper and just looking at the locals and markets when I drive there, it's falling to the same fate as Victorville once did. Sad sh*t. The only cool things about living here is having the ability to travel the wilderness (right behind my house is the desert mountains) dirt-biking, and the nature. It's a perfect place for Rockstar to use for GTA, but I'd recommend staying far away from this hell-hole in real life.

The Hippie
hobodealerr - Well it's great to get insight from an actual resident. From the sounds of it, the government f*cked up. Stupid to send former prisoners to a city with families and schools. Makes no sense. But, thanks for the informative post my friend. I have heard that Victorville is somewhat of am iffy city. I'm not really the richest kid out there but whenever I get a chance and decide to move out to Cali I guess I should avoid Victorville from what I'm hearing. Pilotmonkey
Fun fact: There are 204 registered sex offenders listed for Victorville, CA. yeah "fun" OT: probably half of those will probably be in the game

Yeah, well, if you want to experience the modern day American wild west, come on over. Lots of fun if you like adventure, exploring and whatnot. Over in Hesperia people still have ranches, so they have horses and ride em in the wilderness. It's pretty cool. Or you can just do what modern day people do and jump on your dirtbike or quad and hit the trails, or make your own. Here to Barstow is an incredibly fun ride. Or explore some mountains like Bell Mountain, camp out in the desert and explore some more the next day. Only thing you have to watch out for is the wilderness animals (Hawks, Bobcats, Snakes etc) homeless folks who live out there, and, of course, your step. My post had a lot of negativity in it, so there's some positivity. This kind of place would honestly be a perfect location for Trevor. As for other places you may find interesting, there's Death Valley, Barstow, and San Bernardino.
Nori Yaro
I think Victorville is on one of the screens and I really hope it has Santa Clarita, it's beautiful. THUNDER-TRUMP
Seems off topic but hear me out Silver lake in Burnout 3 was very reminiscent of big bear city/lake, and that was amazing to drive around. hobodealerr
Hmm, I dunno. The second picture could be anywhere really, it could be Temecula, or it could be Baldwin Park, etc etc. It looks like your average city, so it could be anywhere. The first picture reminds me of some small town around Big Bear, San Jacinto, Santa Rosa or San Bernardino due to the pine trees. Santa Rosa is extremely close to the Salton area, so. That picture that showed Franklin skydiving said: "Zacuranda River", and there were desert mountains and small rivers. I think Zacuranda River is based on the Mojave River, which flows in Victorville and other surrounding areas.

Kifflom112
As I've said before, Santa Babara would be a mighty cool addition(of course it would have to be downsized): Santa Barbara would add to the amount of suburbia in the game - I think we need a lot because Southern California is known for it's suburbs. It would also add some more diversity and variety to the coast. The town is full of marina's, small cliffs along the coast, and the different kinds of beaches you wouldn't find near Del Perro Pier. And then you've got the town itself which is kind of beautiful. Santa Barbara seems to have a ton of structures resembling Spanish Renaissance architecture and I think that is what this game needs. Los Santos doesn't look like it has a lot of Mediterranean architecture. I mean yeah there is some diversity in architecture, but it's mostly just landmarks or well-known structure. Santa Barbara has churches, shops, schools, apartments, and houses all done in that architecture. It would certainly create a different vibe from the rest of the map like Meadow Hills did with Liberty City. I hope Santa Barbara is in, or at least Malibu. It would be boring to have nothing north of Los Santos. Just cruising down the Pacific Coast Hwy and making a quick stop in this town would be nice. The Hippie
hobodealerr - I love the desert man, just so free and open. Almost like there are no rules aha. I'm always looking for a great adventure. Just hop on a dirtbike with a few buddies and go trail riding sounds like so much fun. Then camp out under the desert stars, wow! I'd definitely want to invest in a dune buggy if I ever live in the desert though. As for places I'd be looking for. A place that is atleast tolerable, weather wise, in the middle of summer. A place that doesn't have too much crime. Like I mind my own business and I don't think I'd get in any trouble with anybody but a somewhat safe place would be best. Most importantly, a place that has employment, which is probably the hardest one to find. The economy is rough nowadays. Location isn't too important because I know out in Cali you are basically a drive away from any type of terrain. That's the great thing to me. One area that I like is the Beaumont/Banning/Cabazon region. Nori Yaro - That first picture is probably a small community in the mountains, like I've said before maybe a place like Big Bear. That second picture I believe is Los Santos. You can somewhat see the LS Forum and the Long Beach bridge. Kifflom112 - Santa Barbara is a beautiful area. In fact my desktop on my computer is of Santa Barbara county. The city itself is really clean looking. We do need to have a proper suburbs in GTA. With those Spanish renaissance style homes it would be spectacular. I love that style, like stucco with the red tile roofing. I'm sure we will get atleast one more city along the Northern coast of the map. I personally am thinking the Oxnard/Ventura area, but Santa Barbara would be a bit nicer and is only a little more North. Who knows? The only reson I'm thinking Oxnard is because of the surrounding farmland.
Death2Drugs
I pray we get to see areas like Ventura and Santa Barbara. I seriously hope that this rendition of Los Santos has a lot of suburbs.
