Kifflom112
I really don't understand why the best topics get buried. I would really like for Malibu and Palm Springs to be in the map.

mikkenugent
Most of those seem a pretty well fit for small areas of the map, hopefully the nicer areas will be big enough with the right amount of reason to be there like a mission giver of a crazy heist. I<3GTAV
Malibu has to be parodied, it's gotta be one of LA's most famous suburbs, if not the most famous.
ill-thoughts
long as theres a compton and inglewood area to f*ck around in, im happy.....but occasionally ill want to go to rodeo drive or malibu and harass white women
packardcaribien
I realize that it's much further north than LA, but I thought something like Santa Barbara would be interesting. It has very unique architecture and a lot of personality. San Diego and Santa Catalina would be the coolest, though.

atdray
My thoughts on your thread... Outstanding. Out-f*cking-standing! - Jim Davis (Christian Bale) in Harsh Times, which takes place in Los Angeles. I live in California (Merced) and head into LA about 2-3 times a week (I'm a truck driver). I'm hoping to see some of these areas incorporated. It'd make the map that much better, but I'm not holding my breath. I will say though, that I hope R* captures that feel and look of LA. Judging from the screens, seeing their rendition of downtown LA, it's pretty damn promising. When I'm on the 5, or the 101, I see GTA V and wet my pants. I can't wait. I hope they include a good portion of their version of the LA River, as well. We can already see the 6th street bridge in the screens, just can't wait to actually explore it. Sorry that I kinda ran off there. Great thread, man.

The Hippie
Thanks fellas! About Santa Barbara, I would love that. Beautiful area. Not sure if Rockstar is going to go as far North along the coast as SB County though.

The Hippie
VATG, good point. It does show some resemblance. I don't know about Bakersfield but it would be cool so Rockstar could reveal maybe a Sequoia national forest type setting? That does feel like it's pushing a bit too far North though. dewan2000
You made socal seem so nice! Too bad having been down there I hate it! Either endless desert or smoggy cities. Fresno has got to be one of the most polluted cities next to LA. The mountain areas are nice though. But I do hope towns like palm.springs make it in. And the island would be awesome as well in the game
The Hippie
Well, every place is going to have negatives about it. Sometimes the positives outweigh the negatives and to me, that's the case with California. You got Pacific Ocean and beautiful beaches, mountains, forests, lakes, vast deserts, flat countryside, rolling hills, big cities, sports and entertainment. If I want to surf, snowboard, camp in the mountains, drive through the desert and see a Raiders game all in two weeks time, I can. California is just so diverse and that alone attracts me to it. gtamann123
I'm betting my money on a Big Bear type city up in the mountains as well as a Malibu parody. As well a some other ones. It will be interesting to see what suburbs are parodied. It would be cool to see a big portion of Orange County. OP: And about you wanting to move to SoCal I would only advise it if you can obtain a years income of atleast $100k per year. Because with anything lower the cost of living and the taxes will kill you. But that's just my personal opinion I would love to live in SoCal but the cost of living kind of sours it for me. But to each their own I guess. Edited January 15, 2013 by gtamann123

Camping/Off roading in the mountains or woods deeply interest me. I hope we can steal RV's and camp outside of them. And then the mountains. Whether in a Serrano or a mountain bike, it's gonna' be so thrilling to off road. All of the rugged terrain, scenery, I just cannot wait. I also hope we have towns to go to. There should be a town on the wooded border of the lake. It should be just some nice little town with lots of pines, lovely views, old wood structures and cottages, random gas stations, and a classic coastline state route running through it with lots of rigs and rv traffic. Would be cool.

I really hope there is sand dunes because I would love to take a dune buggy to those suckers. That town you mentioned could be like Big Bear. I'm a bit excited for this game haha. Yeah so you would save a small amount of money on taxes I guess. And if you really want it go for it. My uncle hitchhiked and trained hopped out to LA when he was 18 and 10 years later he was making $100k a year so achieving success is only a state of mind. And a good plan is what will get you there. I'm probably moving to Arizona this summer to make a go of it with my dad so I got some work ahead of me as well. Good Luck OT: Yeah I hope the suburbs are done right. Large suburbs are what defines Southern California for most people so It would be shame if they weren't done right.

CaptRobau
Excellent thread OP. Malibu is such a well-known part of the LA area, I'd be flabbergasted if it weren't in. I think we might even have seen it already. The vineyard in the first trailer looks eerily like the vineyards in the hills over Malibu, one of the few in the LA area (the most are near San Diego and San Francisco. Would be very R* to use the contrast between the wealthy Americans on the beach and the poor immigrants working in the hills. Victorville in some form seems to be in as well. Seen behind the Vinewood Hills, most completely in the shot where Trevor jumps out of the plane is something that looks like a prison, as well as an airfield. The rest of Victorville seems to be rather scaled down. There's a bunch of buildings visible from the air and down on the ground we see radio telescopes and a bar, but not much else. Big Bear Lake seems like a shoe in as well. From MP3's leaked vehicle list we saw that there were a bunch of ski-related vehicles in an early build of GTA V. There's few ski resorts in the area as iconic as Big Bear Lake, so I can see that happening. Santa Catalina Island is in without a doubt. With R* mentioning an ocean to explore, it'd seem weird if there wasn't a destination there. Salton City is something I would add. If there's one community around the Salton Sea (Alamo Sea) that resembles what we see in the screenshots, it's the rundown Salton City. Grapeseed looks a lot like Brawley at the southern end of the Salton Sea. Mappers have placed Grapeseed at the end of the Alamo Sea and the endless acres resemble Grapeseed very much. A ghost town, full of RDR easter eggs, is also a must
The Hippie
gtamann123 - Wow, great story about your uncle. What field of work did he get into? I imagine this is going back about a couple decades but still good to know. CaptRobau - Good points. About Grapeseed though, I was thinking it resembles the country and farms outside of Oxnard. I'll put you down on the bottom of my topic that you mentioned Brawley though.
artificialguy
I would love to see city based on Santa Barbara and some rednition of Malibu in the game. I really hope Los Santos itself will be large enough to feel this LA climate. Some entertainment park, like Disneyland in Anaheim would be nice, as well as typical Californian suburbs.
