The Hippie
Due to the fact that I love California and I am a little obsessed with the state,(I hope to one day move there) I decided to make this topic. Anyway, I've come to the conclusion to leave out many cities in the Los Angeles region as I assume most of it is part of L.A. This image here (LA Map) shows the general area that I did NOT include in my list because I believe rockstar would fit the majority of those cities in the game. Places such as Long Beach, Compton, Anaheim, Ontario, Huntington Beach, Pasedena, Glendale, Santa Monica, and the San Fernando Valley(Porn Valley duuudes). So those are the places that I left out, and I focused more on cities just a tad further away from the L.A area. Obviously, since Rockstar is focusing on one big city, many of the places I listed below could be incorporated only as smaller cities/towns. I’m sure out of this huge map Rockstar must provide at least a few other communities. Remember, this is a reimagined Southern California, not just Los Angeles. The cities I listed below are just my personal opinion and I have a feeling that I could be right on a few. I’ve included city population, elevation and some climate statistics. For population, I belive each city listed below could be divided by 10. Take the largest city I have listed below, Oxnard, with a population of 203 thousand and divide it by 10 which equals about 20 thousand. Rockstar could just make up Oxnard as a little town about the size of a place with 20 thousand people and I would consider that a perfect equation. Elevation and climate I added just as a bonus so to speak. I would like rockstar to have each city with their respective climate(which they do anyway). But on top of that to have separate seasons. A place like Big Bear, in the winter there’s tons of snow, but in the summer, people are out in the lake. Regardless, back to the main topic. Here is my list of possible Southern California cities in GTA V: Oxnard (Population of 203,585) Elevation - 52 ft Located 44 miles WNW of L.A. Has a small regional airport and is situated right on the Pacific ocean. Oxnard has this neat little harbour area which is called Channel Islands. It has homes and boats on these strips of land directly on the water. Many high class houses and boats. Highway 1(Pacific Coast Highway or PCH) runs through the city. Could make for a nice destination in the top left corner of the map. Climate: Warm dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 81F(27C) Avg low in Jan - 41F(5C) Avg annual precipitaion - 18.2 inches Oxnard City in the distance Airview of Channel Islands Channel Islands, closer look Fun fact: Oxnard, CA has rich quality soils, therefore, Oxnard is the leading producer of Strawberries for the state of California. Malibu (Population of 12,645) Elevation - 112 ft Located 32 miles West of L.A. Beautiful area right on the Pacific ocean. 21 mile strip of land home to many rich and famous people. Lets rob some of those suckers haha! Also, with plenty of beatiful beaches, the Malibu region attracts many beachgoers and surfers. The PCH also runs through Malibu. Climate: Hot dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 95F(35C) Avg low in Jan - 39F(4C) Avg annual precipitation - 17.9 inches Malibu Coast Malibu Road Malibu CA Fun fact: On October 9, 2010 Malibu Surfrider Beach was dedicated as the first World Surfing Reserve. (I hope V has surfing) Santa Clarita (Population of 201,341) Elevation - 1,200 ft Located 28 miles NW of L.A. Basic Suburban city with cookie cutter homes. Could be something new to add to GTA as we haven't seen true suburban neighborhoods before in GTA. Safe, family oriented city as the FBI rates it the 6th safest city in the America. Climate: Hot dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 96F(36C) Avg low in Jan - 36F(2C) Avg annual precipitation - 13.9 inches Santa Clarita Santa Clarita Homes Fun Fact: Six flags magic mountain amusement park is located just outside the city. Lancaster (Population of 156,633) Elevation - 2,359 ft Located 43 miles North of L.A. beyond the San Gabriel mountain range. High mojave desert city with the Edwards Air Force Base just North of it. Also home to the California state prison and Antelope Valley state prison. Palmdale, located just South of Lancaster could be incorporated as well. Climate: Hot dry summers, cool dry winters Avg high in July - 98F(37C) Avg low in Jan - 31F(-1C) Avg annual precipitation - 7.4 inches (slight chance of snow during winter months) Lancaster sunset Edwards AFB Downtown Lancaster Fun fact: 15 miles West of Lancaster is the California Poppy reserve. Victorville (Population of 115,903) Elevation - 2,726 ft Located 63 miles NE of L.A. Another high desert city similar to Lancaster that rockstar could use. As is Lancaster, Victorville is also beyond the San Gabriel Mountain range, plus it is home to the Southern California Logistics Airport, a former Air Force Base that closed in 1992. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is also located in Victorville. Hesperia, just south of Victorville could also fit in there. Climate: Hot dry summers, cool dry winters Avg high in July - 99F(37C) Avg low in Jan - 32F(0C) Avg annual precipitation - 6.2 inches (slight chance of snow during winter months) Victorville, CA Southern California Logistics Airport Victorville Prison Fun fact: There are 204 registered sex offenders listed for Victorville, CA. The Hippie
Big Bear City (Population of 12,304) Elevation - 6,772 ft Located 81 miles east of L.A. Nestled up in the San Bernadino mountains is Big Bear City. Mostly just a residential/resort town with cottages and cabins. With Big Bear lake nearby, a ski resort, and small general aviation airport, Big Bear City could be a neat little place for GTA V. Think of the picture with Trevor walking down the sidewalk with his jean jacket. Lake Arrowhead a little bit West of Big Bear could be a similar place that rockstar might use instead. Climate: Warm semi-dry summers, cold wet winters Avg high in July - 81F(27C) Avg low in Jan - 21F(-6C) Avg annual precipitation - 20.1 inches (Avg of 62 inches of snowfall per year) Big Bear City, CA Big Bear Lake Snowboarding at Big Bear Fun fact: Bear Mountain Ski Resort has 4 mountain peaks for skiing/snowboarding. (I hope V has either if snow is in fact part of the game) Palm Springs (Population of 44,552) Elevation - 440 ft Located 98 miles ESE of L.A. I'm almost certain that Palm Springs will be in GTA V. Think of that shot of the highway in trailer 2 with the wind turbines in the background. It is known as a desert resort town. It has an airport and could be a place that rockstar might be sneaking in a 2nd golf course as the Palm Springs area has plenty. Climate: Scorching dry summers, mild dry winters Avg high in July - 108F(42C) Avg low in Jan - 45F(7C) Avg annual precipitation - 4.85 inches Palm Springs wind turbines Palm Springs golf course Palm Springs, CA Fun fact: The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the largest rotating aerial tramway in the World. Oceanside (Population of 183,095) Elevation - 66 ft Located 77 miles SSE of L.A. Rockstar might include another beautiful coastal city to the South of L.A. I doubt they go as far South as San Diego though. Oceanside could be that little beach town in the SW portion of the map. Could form a tri-city if Carlsbad and Vista are included. Oceanside also has a Marine corps base camp to the North. Climate: Warm dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 73F(23C) Avg low in Jan - 45F(7C) Avg annual precipitation - 10.4 inches Oceanside pier Oceanside beach Oceanside, CA Fun fact: I (The Hippie) swam in the Oceanside beach back in August 2005! Santa Catalina Island (Population of 3,728+) Elevation - Avalon 30 ft - Highest point on Island 2,097 ft Located 49 miles almost directly South of L.A. Catalina Island is a mountainous, rocky island. Rockstar could use this island for underwater exploration as there a few shipwrecks and reefs off the coast of the Island. Also, maybe a new mode of transportion, like taxis in IV, we could use ferry boat to get across to the island. The main city on the Island is Avalon. Climate: Warm dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 77F(25C) Avg low in Jan - 46F(8C) Avg annual precipitation - 14.5 inches Santa Catalina Island, CA Avalon Shipwreck off the coast of the island Fun fact: Ferries depart from Orange County in Newport Beach and Dana Point, while they depart from Los Angeles County in Long Beach, San Pedro, and Marina del Rey. The trip takes approximately an hour and costs approx $65 round trip. Helicopter service is also available from Long Beach or San Pedro. Salton City (Population of 3,763) Elevation - 125 ft Located 141 miles SE of L.A. Basically just a ghost town along the Salton Sea. Many laid out streets but with homes that have been abandoned or that never got built. Creepy and deserted yet still appealing. I for one, love this place for what it is. Climate: Hot dry summers, mild semi-dry winters Avg high in July - 97F(36C) Avg low in Jan - 37F(3C) Avg annual precipitation - 12.6 inches I've posted this video before, but I think it's worthy to be posted again. It best describes the Salton Sea region more than photos could show. Fun fact: Salton City was featured in an episode of the television series “Life After People”. Slab City (Population of 1,000 give or take) Elevation - negative 121 ft below sea level Located 169 miles SE of L.A. Slab City AKA The Slabs is a squatters camp with only RVs and trailers. Living rent free, no running water, no electricity and as far away from the law as you can get. Known as the last free place on Earth. Just off the South East end of the Salton Sea. Called Slab City due to the concrete slabs laid out across the desert floor, the last remnants of a WWII military base. I have a feeling this is what Trevor calls home. Pretty f*cking cool man. Climate: Scorching arid summers, mild dry winters Avg high in July - 107F(42C) Avg low in Jan - 41F(5C) Avg annual precipitation - 2.8 inches Again, photos would not do this place justice. Have a look at this video, which really helps you sense what Slab City is all about. Fun fact: Part of the film “Into the Wild” took place in Slab City (One of my personal favourite movies). There you have it fellas. Let me know what ya think or give me some other reasonable destinations and I'll jot 'em down below. Thanks, peace. Kifflom112
This is one superb thread, something I've been wanting in this section. Wish all threads came out like or similar to this. OT: I really like Malibu. Seems vrry likely it'll make an appearance along the PC HWY parody.

018361
Barstow, Ca. It's a lot smaller than liquorville, ( victorville ) but it does seem to be a major train route. Plus, I think the picture with the BF injection shows a sign that I have seen there. It is also home to quite a few off-road racing areas which provide it with customers for local businesses and is a pit stop if you are going from LA to Las Vegas. The city also has quite a few mountainous regions surrounding it especially to the north. We may also see nearby military installations like Edwards AFB and Fort Irwin.
