Should GTAV have a hardcore mode in single player? This mode would be completely optional, the game would not force you into this. A hardcore mode where If you get hit only a couple times by bullets you die, you must keep hydrated and fed (every 24 hours sounds reasonable), Cars must be gassed, fast car crashes will kill/ severely injure you, minor car crashes may injure you, realistic driving, realistic recoil for weapons, head shots kill you instantly, AI will react faster (no super aim-bot), no HUD (except cross-hair), and more features. I think the would be a challenging mode for more experienced players or players who want to play more realistically. It would be interesting having one. (Personally I would love it, a game mode constantly keeping you on your toes, where the slightest mis-step and you are dead.)

You may discuss...

ill-thoughts

i dont think it needs it. GTA4 was pretty much Perfect in terms of its difficulty, how many bullets you can take before you die, etc....i dont see any need for them to overcomplicate that at all, its fine as it is.

Hey your ripping off my old stupid thread that got locked! angry.gif

This thread should also probably be locked.

Anyway gta games do not usually have difficulty settings.

EDIT: by the way thank you for expanding my hardcore mode idea.

I don't want to be all negative and all, but it just isn't going to happen. Rockstar are well documented as saying that they don't do difficulty levels.

Whats the point? Really?

You unlock Hardcore mode after your first playthrough?

Most difficulty settings just seem to pad the game, Make it seem longer than it really is. Just a waste of f*cking time.

A big game such a GTA does not need such cliché features.

I always thought IV was rather lenient on how many bullets you could take, but maybe it's just me.

from my time with GTA4 and my own personal experiences, it was pretty accurate. if you were shot directly in the chest with a shotgun, you were dead. if you were in a firefight and got hit in the shoulder with a bullet, it wouldnt do much damage...just like it wouldnt in real life. people get shott all the time and dont even realize theyre shot until they look down and see the blood. i have 2 friends who have been shot in the head and both say they didnt even realize it until someone told them they had blood coming out of their head.

I think it'd be awesome, as long as it was completely optional.

The term "Hardcore Mode" alone indicates that its optional.. dozingoff.gif

What would be annoying is an Achievement or Trophy assigned to completing that trophy.. Unless that's what you meant? A hardcore mode without consequence?

I do not see why people would not want it. It is OPTIONAL. It means you have the choice to use it or not. I bet there are plenty of people who would play on this mode, and if you don't like it, switch it off and play normal GTA. While I doubt Rockstar will put it in the game i still do not know why there is so much negativity towards this mode.

you got some hardcore friends cool.gif

And on topic - yes I would vote for a hardcore mode as well as difficulty levels in general so new people could casually play the game first time out without getting frustrated, such as when you are just showing someone the game.

Must've been a pretty epic airsoft gun battle.. lol

There's no way in hell someone's been shot in the head with a real gun and does not notice it.

OT: I don't really think it's necessary because whenever I felt IV was too easy I'd just turn off the hud entirely and play through with auto aim off. It's much different like that and is basically a hardcore mode all within itself.

I personally don't think that a game like GTA really needs a "hardcore" mode simply due to the nature of the game; and given the fact that in an open-world game such as GTA; as opposed to a game that is linear, events are dynamic - with the difficulty for the player varying between different events and different circumstances; it wouldn't be the easiest thing nor would it be practical to implement a group of set difficulty levels.

I think it is fine the way it is with no set difficulty levels, in my opinion.

They should have a hardcore mode, but I don't want it to be that realistic. It's only a game after all.

And by hardcore, I mean like Red Dead Redemption's. Gunshots to much more damage, you cannot survive explosions, harder aiming, etc.

It works for games like Vanquish, but that's because the controls were so tight and responsive. I just don't think GTA is set up for a mode like that.

I would rather play a single life/death mode where you can only die once. It's usually a goal of mine anyways, so it would be something I would mess around with for a second or third playthrough.

I would say yes to this mode if it means never having to deal with fuel and hunger in the regular one. I don't care how long they take to run out, eventually they still run out and annoy me. Not to mention make it take too long to run out and it's pointless but make it too short and it's annoying.

I honestly can't see how the votes are split. I've been playing Hardcore Mode in Red Dead Redemption since it came out. I never find myself on Normal Mode, ever, and I would be very disappointed if GTAV didn't have it. It's so much more fun.

I hope that's what you were referring to.

HUD really needs to stay in. Since GTA doesn't have a feature that visually shows when you're low on heath with your character. No gas, just no. And lastly, c'mon, hydrated? This isn't a survival game like Fallout. This is a urban crime life simulator. I understand food but even that is stretching it because we have to eat anyways to keep our health up after conflicts. I'm surprised you didn't add sleep. Anywho, the things I would want for a hardcore mode would be more a realistic health system, no autoaim, maybe a weapon carrying system where I can have a small microsmg or a pistol in my pocket or be able to bring a duffle bag with me that can carry three primary like a rifle sniper rifle, shotgun, RPG and other primary stuff along with grenades. I would also like my character to act hurt when he is low on health, like getting shot till his health is blinking red would cause a slight limp while I walk and blood dripping from my wounds as my character breathes little heavier. That way I could turn off the Hud.

I'd rather all that stuff be in a hardcore mode than in the regular mode.

Also, come on. GTA is not a simulator. Look up any mission that has a big car chase in it, including those in IV, and you'll pretty much see that GTA is pretty far from a simulator.

Yet they added one to Red Dead Redemption. I forgot which version it was. I think it was game of the year version.

I did say for a Hardcore mode. And yes, it is pretty far a realistic simulator but it still simulates the basic experience of a over the top hyper violent world with a highly interactive re-imagined world to make it feel alive.

Sounds too much like an RPG. Hardcore in GTA should just be manual aim and take extra damage from bullets.

well as one whos Been shot, i can tell you that the bullet strikes and enters you so fast that sometimes you dont even feel it but it all depends on what kind of bullet and where youre shot. the heat from the bullet and the speed that it enters your body just makes that area numb. if a 9mm bullet strikes your head and doesnt penetrate the skull, you Could not realize youv been shot until it starts to burn, hurt or feel uncomfortable after a while...or blood starts to run down your face/neck. i was shot in the upper right chest by a small firearm from about 40 yards away and didnt fully realize it until after i had stopped running and my adrenaline died down, i felt this cold numbness in my chest, looked down and saw the blood on my shirt....but at the time, i was about 6'3", 240 pounds with alot of upper body meat LOL that also plays a factor.

now if your talking Rifle Ammo like an AK-47, your gonna feel that sh*t, no question.

I want a Hardcore mode where the enemies know how to shoot, where I have less health(like in IV multiplayer), not the damn hunger and car fuel bullsh*t.

And Max Payne 3 (Easy to Hardcore I think)? Which may I assume where op inspired this post from?

I vouch for this. If one thing lacks in GTA for me from making a GTA game the ultimate and complete game it's a very strong challenge and difficulty.

Max Payne 3 has nothing to do with this conversation at all. Max Payne is a level based game. It would be retarded to not have difficulties. No, this topic comes from the want to make GTA more challenging to better put the player into the game by adding more needed focus to the playthrough.
