It's made as a smaller PC geared towards running games on Steam in 'Big Picture' mode. It's being produced by Xi3 in partnership with Valve. I believe they're trying to combine the benefits of PC gaming (visuals, better hardware etc.) with the benefits of console games (easy UI, specifically optimised for console). Anyway that would be sweet for a person like me who wants to do PC gaming but sucks at Keyboard and mouse controls, and don't have the patience to save up money for a good enough rig. "With regards to the Steambox news -- there has been a lot of things stated in the media which I didn't say. For example, it's true that we are working on getting Steam into the living room, and are planning for a hardware box, but we have no current plans to announce anything in 2013," Krasnow said in an email. there are some rumors going around steam that HL3 will be steambox exclusive. lets hope that isn't the case because if it is then valve is no better than microsoft. especially when valve keeps criticizing microsoft and sony the past few months and steambox is linux too. i don't think this will succeed very well because most devs aren't porting their games to linux. expect it to be a dead platform for games just like OSX Edited January 9, 2013 by kudoboi Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chukkles Posted January 9, 2013 Share Posted January 9, 2013 If they can do what was done on PC with HL2 and add cs source and hl mp, which weren't on console versions, (i'm glad I had the PC version), then I would be well up for it. I'm not sure if hl mp was included in console hl2. I slipped out of PC gaming with vista, It won't run steam on our PC, or many other games.
