I don't remember which preview or interview it was, but basically it was said that GTA V is all about the almighty dollar, the pursuit of the almighty dollar. It was also said in the Game Informer GTA V cover story by Dan Houser that they understand the concerns from GTA IV about how there wasn't much to do with your money except for weaponry and clothing. He said something along the lines of...big expensive toys. And later it was said in either a preview or interview that you have to work hard to be able to get a hold of the bigger stuff. I wonder if they mean weapons and vehicles with that, or just only weaponry. What do you guys think?

Let's take a look at GTA IV: TLAD, it only takes a few missions before you have enough money to spend on big weaponry like rocket launchers and grenade launchers and stuff like that. Will weapons simply cost a lot more in GTA V or will they simply give you a lot less money for a mission this time around? It was said that you need the right connections to be able to get to the bigger stuff, this sounds awesome to me, but i keep wondering what they mean with bigger stuff. Perhaps some crazy military vehicles? I'm very curious what this could mean for weaponry, it sounds like GTA V will have some ridiculously sick weapons.....or maybe i;m all wrong here and that it's not only gonna be weaponry and vehicles that they mean here. But what else could it be? It won't be real estate or anything, that much is known from the cover story. It's quite clear that they don't want to reveal what this is, but i'm just so goddamn curious about this. Whatchu guys think?

Big Expensive toy like the submarine maybe?

That is definitely a possibility. It's not something i'd expect to just see lying in the water whenever in the game, that's a good one. There probably are some more unexpected vehicles then.

Money should be useful- but with the 3 protagonists each having their own income- it can't be like an RPG.

ill-thoughts

i expect this to work like BOGT. since we get the entire world open from the jump, im guessing many of the toys will be available fairly early in the game and they SHOULD BE.

as far as money, i really dont see any true Need for it besides buying ammo and clothing.

I heard someone say that V will have an inventory. so maybe "Exepensive Toys" means inventory items like rc cars, jetpacks, and other items. bored.gif

But that's a bit odd, since the game is really all about getting money. It really is a bit of a weird decision to take out real estate when you think about it. It's not like i will be missing it incredibly much, but it IS a bit of a bummer. I highly doubt we'll get the big stuff very early in the game, i mean...where's the feeling of accomplishment then if its so easy to get a hold of great stufff? You should have to work hard for it and what they said about having the right connections, that sounds good and like a change from how it usually has been in GTA games.

It's great to have loads of money and actually being able to spend it on more stuff other than weaponry and clothing. I'm hoping for some crazy cars that you can buy and can't simply steal. I really wanted that car dealer in GTA IV to actually sell me cars...but he never did sad.gif

@slogan-killer1

Exactly. But i also wouldn't mind it if i really have to work HARD to be able to buy a rocket launcher or a grenade launcher.

I think we will see Max Payne 3's perk and weapon customization system, but where you have to purchase those perks and weapons mods, perhaps where it will be in single and multiplayer, I'd like to see the perk and weapon customization span multiplayer and singleplayer.

Exactly!!! I'd almost forgotten about weapon customization. There have been several signs of weapon customization and i truly hope it will be in. Cause that would be yet another way to spend your money on, expensive and awesome mods and what not. More customization is never a bad thing. And how could i forget about car customization....they have yet to confirm or deny it, still rooting for its return.

Ya know. When i think about it.

I don't really care if money has much "use" or not.

I mean, In GTA 3, My aim was to just acquire as much money as I could without spending it. Seeing the dollars pile up was cool. Knowing that my character is rich.

The same went for GTA VC and GTA IV.

GTA SA was cool aswell because you could just as easily lose all that money.

They said there will be a lot of toys at our disposal. Everything is available at the start, but you have to get the right amount Of money and gain the right connects to acquire them. That's exactly how it should be.

Anyone know if gambling is back in? Like the odd casino or the horse betting shops? I kinda see Trevor with a gambling addiction, that's where all his money is going!

I'm thinking most of the money will be used to fund the heists. Although I've mentioned before say things like blueprints and other intel.

What about starting funds? Maybe that will factor in on what you can and cannot buy early on in game? Maybe there is no mission hold to wait for to purchase guns etc. And everything is buyable, if you have the funds oviously.

For example:

Michael seems like he would have a budget of 25,000? Thus being able to buy nicer things etc

Franklin around 10,000? Little less nicer...

Trevor around 5,000? not nice at all....

idk........... suicidal.gif

I'm not going to lie, in the free roam portion of this game, I will be RPGing the hell out of my cash. Not sure if you can semi update your safehouse ala Saints Row, but Franklin will be ragging (urban slang for wearing nice clothes), Michael will be buying car, planes, or boats, and Trevor, well Trevor may just get the gun and drugs route. I don't really think he cares about much in life.

Just a thought, I wonder if this is the first game where a protag offs himself (looking in Trevor or Michael's direction)

I'm glad to hear that money will be more important. I don't know what we will need money for, considering that buying property will not be part of the game. Cars can be stolen, so the only thing i can think of at the moment is clothes and other material items. I really hope that Rockstar has something more substantial than that, because i never cared about that stuff. The other issue is making money harder to obtain, otherwise the financial aspect of the game will become trivial and meaningless. This means NO money cheat.

I'm usually against barring any cheat, especially considering that cheats are optional, but in THIS case, i think it's necessary in order to make money a big deal.

I read somwhere we will have to pay for Gas in our cars. That is awesome going to be soo epic funny trying to run from the cops and forget to fill up. Also .. buying cloths is a cool thing but the big things im after is buying Cars and Guns and maybe drugs and booze.. those are what im after! oh and if we can buy things for our house that would be cool... like to get a cd of LOVE FIST!

Id like if you can customize your houses or buy cars that would be at them. Almost like saints row. Dont think itll have to do with the missions always
