John Marston
- Able to wear clothes a certain way ( Sagging, Stuff jeans in shoes, Rolled up sleeves, Untied shoes) Haha, it would be cool to wear two different socks.... Even saints row didn't have that. Just remembered yeasterday I was wearing a garbage man uniform while on the date with Kate in GTA IV. She wasn't impressed at all. Had some laugh. Diesleman
People always saying the cops automatically knew where you were on 4 but I was always able to sneak around on foot or in vehicle and evade the police. Also last night I was playing and I found If I took a boat or car with no one seeing me then I could drive past the police without them recognizing me, so long as I didn't act rashly or get too close. Is this the system you all are yearning for? Perhaps you've never really experimented with these things.
Racecarlock
Gas Again? Again with the gas? Really? It's not fun. I don't care what tom sawyer's been telling you, he's just trying to trick you into filling up his tank. It's as exciting as watching paint dry and as fun as getting gas in real life is, that is to say, not at all. It's not fun, it's a chore. It's not an exciting activity, it's getting f*cking gas. I don't care what anyone says, this should not be in GTA V! whats the problem with gas anyways? if they do it like in Mafia 2, you'll barely have to fill up your gas tank cause it never goes down... in Mafia 2 I only filled it up once the whole game -.- Exactly. It would be completely useless as a feature. Unless they were to increase the rate the fuel goes down, in which case it would be annoying. Either way, it sucks. Hate (love) to play devil's advocate, but a fuel requirement could enhance certain minigames. For example, Franklin's repo missions could involve stealing cars with variable amounts of gas in the tank. For cars running on fumes, you have to make it to a gas station before the car dies, perhaps by using downhills and strategically planning your route to the nearest station. If you fail to make it, you fail the mission. It could make the missions more exciting and wouldn't happen every time (kinda like how Jacob's drug running missions from IV had a few different types). Fuel could also provide for a more visceral experience in free roam. You're trying to get away from the cops and steal a car with next to nothing in the tank and have a very cinematic "f*ck me" moment. Then, thinking on your feet, you strategize from there: do I drive the car and hope it's enough or just take off on foot through the alley and hope for something better? To some this may seem tedious, but to someone who really enjoys the gameplay and going with the flow, these dilemmas make the game that much more fun and visceral. In any case, a fuel requirement could be circumvented by cheats, inventory items (i.e., gas cans), and/or perks (like the ability to call a friend's tow truck business?). The real point here is that suggesting fuel is "completely useless" and sucks no matter what strikes me as a bit closed-minded and absolutist. It only takes a little imagination to envision how it could be fun. Thing is, you could achieve the same results just by upgrading the Police AI a bit. As for repo missions, I don't consider pushing a car to a gas station fun. And why the hell should I experience extreme frustration just for the sake of those that are excited by running out of fuel while being chased? DAWeeE1
Some really trivial things here that can really improve a game's atmosphere, DRASTICALLY - When walking down the street, better ambient noises. So if you're in the ghetto you should hear the occasional siren and gunshot, if you're in a busy area you should hear alot of chattering in the background with alot of different sound effects (someone's phone ringing, somebody dropping something, somebody shouting for a friend etc) - After turning off your engine, the vehicle should be locked. If it's an "expensive" car, when you're walking towards it to enter it, your character will automatically pull the keys out of their pockets, press the unlock button and you'll hear a little "bloop bloop" sound while your hazard lights flash. - Hearing the radio from other's cars and those driving past. - In the ghetto, seeing people get pulled over, cuffed and taken away - When driving, other drivers occasionally having a small crash, or someone gets cut off and they slam their brakes and a small amount of traffic gets held up with some car horns being sounded. - Occasional roadblocks for roadworks (occasionally with some wooden planks able to be used as a ramp, and a barricade to smash through) - Street racers racing through the city with cops following (ambient event, help the cops or racers, each give a reward. - Drug deals in alleyways (ambient event, with the possiblity to walk right in with an assault rifle and take the cash and the drugs) Many of those things were in GTA IV. No they weren't. Yes they were. Ambient noises of the type you describe (distant sirens, cellphones ringing, and other stuff) could be hear all the time. And as you moved away from the streets and further into the beach or Middle Park for example, the sound of a busy road slowly faded away. You would also almost always see others getting chased by police, either by foot or in vehicle, roadworks were all over Liberty City (though static), and you could hear the radio from other pedestrians driving their car. And you could ALWAYS see someone driving into others, with the result either being a fight between those two or just a buckle on the car. Don't know whether it was an AI glitch or intended by Rockstar, but it was still there. Edited January 12, 2013 by DAWeeE1

The roadworks weren't ambient, and they didn't have barricades to smash through at full speed and they certainly didn't have ramps. The background noises in IV were very quiet. They were barely noticeable. And I've never seen a cop car chase an AI driver at high speeds on the freeway of LC. Only time I saw that was in Union Drive, and they were scripted. I don't remember hearing other people's radios, though. I also kinda meant there should be the occasional douchebag in his "riced out swag Blista Compact blastin dem mad dubstep tunez, right?" Cops did chase people, I've even seen them pull over a car, I watched the transaction of the situation. There really good ambient sounds in IV, I mean really good. Car alarms, Shouting, Road traffic, honking and other great stuff. Really felt like New York City. At one point I think I even heard a sewer system activate or something while I was standing over some grates on the sidewalk. It was load and kinda annoying but it disappeared as I walked away. And that's all just in Algonquin. Also, you could every well hear people's radio stations. You could even hear your as you got out of the car and didn't turn off the engine. Yes there were road workers but as he said, they were static and always at the same spot.
Algonquin Assassin
I was playing IV last night while it was raining and something occured to me which would be so simple yet effectives. Vehicles should have windscreen wipers. I mean peds grab umbrellas. Why not?

There are fixed spots around the city where you'll see a car pulled over, but it's not ambient. You can never witness a cop car doing a P.I.T manouever on a speeder on the freeway, holding up a traffic jam whilst the person gets arrested.
