TheGodDamnMaster
Pokemon was the focus of Nintendo’s latest instalment of Nintendo Direct, hosted by president Satoru Iwata. During the stream he presented a debut trailer for Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, two 3DS titles coming to the handheld this October. Check out what happened here. Iwata opened the feed by explaining that the cast was broadcast in seven languages simultaneously, suggesting it was going to be a big one. It kicked off with a look back at Pokemon Blue, Red and Green, discussing the monsters that appeared on each of the game’s covers. Iwata explained that offering two versions of one game was a new concept at the time, and the way that Pokemon were different on each cart was positively received by fans, provoking them to try and ‘collect em all’. 1999′s Pokemon Gold and Silver were next, and Iwata recalled the big impact the colour of Game Boy Color added to the franchise. He also focused on the appearance of legendary Pokemon on the cover of each game. Game Boy Advance’s Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were next, and Iwata stressed the importance of the game’s four-player tag function, which he said added more strategy to proceedings. 2004′s Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green also came with a wireless adapter, which Iwata also championed. Iwata said Pokemon Diamond and Pearl – released on DS in 2006 – made tremendous progress in the series, thanks to offering in-built wireless via the console. Iwata said that this trend improved throughout all subsequent editions right up to Pokemon Black and white version 2 on 3DS. Now on to the new stuff: Iwata revealed two new 3DS Pokemon games- called Pokemon X and Pokemon Y – which will launch October 2013. The trailer opened with Pikachu sending sparks flying across the globe, and saw a new female adventurer running across a 3D world teeming with new Pokemon such as squirrel Chespin, blue frog Froakie and a flaming marsupial. The more you battle with your Pokemon, the stronger your bond will become, said the trailer. Seen flying above the skies was a new legendary Pokemon, and a legendary giant deer with many antlers. We’ll have more on Pokemon X & Y as it happens, but it should reverse Nintendo’s so-called ‘weakness’ that Michael Pachter said has been dogging the company as of late. http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/08/nintendo-d...to-3ds-in-2013/ Trailer: I can't say I'm that impressed. -Still locked in to a 4-direction movement grid -Still has the Black and White art aesthetic -The framerate looks unstable Edited January 8, 2013 by whatsstrength Intel Core i9-9900k | Seasonic FOCUS Plus 750W | 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666MHzMSI GeForce RTX2070 | WD Blue 1TB HDD | Samsung 950 PRO M.2 512GBAntec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower | MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon AC
SilentSeas
I came across this earlier on, it seems a bit odd to announce a release so soon after Black and White 2. I like the fact that they've taken influences from Europe for the setting this time, but those starters look atrocious. I can't really say that I'll be too bothered about these based on the trailer. Slingaa
I got so hyped up for the announcement when I saw the tweet, I thought it was gonna be R/S/E remakes. Not going to spend 100 odd quid on a 3DS just to get this so I won't bother.
.dre.
I'm waiting for my 3ds in the mail and found out about this. win, win. I don't care it's pokemon.
Kyle17
It looks pretty good, I like the European setting. Starters look okay, except for the grass one. I'm a little disappointed that the movement looks like it's still restricted to the X & Y axis despite being a 3D game. The Black & White version art style doesn't bother me all that much. Lastly, looking at the two legendary Pokemon shown at the end, I'll probably get Y version. Of course, I still need to beat Black 2 before I start thinking about a new Pokemon game. All in all, it looks good & I'll probably be getting it sometime around it's release in October.

Adler
Aside from the starters, have any new Pokemon been announced? It looks like there are a couple legendaries from the trailer. I'm not too impressed with how they and the starters look, though I do like the Fire starter. I can't shake the feeling that they don't seem very inspired. I do like how they're taking another step towards going 3D, and it seems battling is looking pretty good. Seems a little too soon for 6th Gen though. na89340qv0n34b09q340
Stylistically it looks way too much like Black and White, and I hated how Black & White looks, it's like an awkward place between handheld game and 'real' animation. I think I'll sit this generation out until we get RSE remakes.
Inky
I played the old Gameboy Pokemon games a lot when I was a kid, and since then I've tried the Gameboy Advance and some of the DS games. I still prefer the older ones, Black and White were too... different for my liking. I'm going to keep tabs on this though, people have been wanting a 3D Pokemon since around the Nintendo 64. uzi 9mm
yea ive always been a fan of the pokemon games. this new game is a step in the right direction, but they should just go straight for the wii u and make a real HD game for the fans. i admit the whole concept of collecting a team a wil pokemon and training them is good, i thoroughly enjoy playing thru the games, but everyone really wants a proper nextgen pokemon game tbh

Since the Wii U is so new and sales are not that good (though not bad, just could be better for a new console) I would think that making this game for the Wii U would not only earn more money and push the system but would also deliver better graphics along with the additional features that the system offers. ElPaisa
They should consider making it RPG for Xbox or Playstatioin! Would be awesome, and I still play R/S/E! My favorites
d0mm2k8
They should consider making it RPG for Xbox or Playstatioin! Yes, because Nintendo will allow one of their biggest and most profitable franchise to be released on their primary competitor's systems.

Adler
I'm a little ashamed to say that I'm more excited for X/Y than I am for GTA V... I am as well, minus the ashamed part. I'm just more fond of Pokemon than GTA. There's something Pokemon does that killing people, robbing banks and, most fundamentally, stealing cars just doesn't do for me. Dragonjack
I've played some rare Pokemon games in the past years and till the end? It just got rather boring and the same really. Now for this one in the other hand, I'd say a little direction by the developers of Pokemon and I'll pass on this one actually. It doesn't look right to me for some reason. Well it's not stupid really, if they can manage to produce a 3d pokemon game on the 3ds, then surely the same concept can be used on the wii u, pokemon is a very popular franchise and it will definately shine on the wii u. it is fair to say pokemon made its name on handheld systems, it's how it all began, but time is moving on, nintendo have had numerous consoles fully capable of supporting a 3d rpg, even the n64 would have been able to manage that, then we had the GC, the Wii, and now the Wii U is out and i doubt many excuses would work well to argue that it shouldn't be done forget the sales atm, the wii u is nintendo's choice of moving forward, and thgey wont release another console for maybe 5-6 years, so if a 3D pokemon rpg is not released on the wii u, then f*ck knows when theye're planning on producing one, the wii u system would be able to home a very impressive game, especially with pokemon cartoon style graphics and simplicity, it wouldn't be hard to make a hit game with stunning graphics, a massive map and in-depth story line
mrpain
I am definitely looking forward to this. What caught my eye was the line "The more you bond with your Pokemon, the better it will become". I'm curious as to how this would works. The old level up formula has started to get really obsolete with the Pokemon titles. Having that close attachment to a single Pokemon should definitely be explored on. And also, lol at the X and Y titles. Looks like they finally ran out of colors. reform
This isn't nostalgia, but purely on a level of originality, creativity and aesthetics, for me almost all Pokémon from 252 onwards are awful. I guess it's personal taste but it just seems like from that point onwards there was no effort or imagination, although admittedly by then they had few original avenues to take. Gen 5 (Black and White) Pokemon were an abomination. There were a few treasures among the trash, but for the most part, ehhhhh. Gen 4 was a mixed bad, but some of them had cool designs. And Gen 3 was bad??? What are you smoking?? Yeah an upside down Pokeball and Pokemon that evolve to have 3 heads instead of one are more creative than an ice cream cone. Furthermore, Kobra and Snake backwards are also exceptionally original names for Pokemon (let's not even mention where Muk came from). Each Generation has had its best and worst, and to collectively shun Pokemon after 252, you have to be influenced by nostalgia even in the least bit that it has not let you see the creativity in some of the newer Pokemon. Completely agree. Each gen is imperfect, see my previous post. And to be honest, I only really care about stats and movesets, not the appearance of the pokemon (save for gender, which can determine the growth rate). ll rdny ll
All I give a sh*t about is the story and gameplay. GIVE ME AN AWESOME STORY and this is a day one buy for me I'll take a stab at a prediction. Choose your gender. You've grown up around pokemon, and one day Prof. Shrub calls for you to visit him in his lab, which is conveniently located right next door to your house. to see him. He greets you with a speech about how he's watched you since you could walk, but not in that creepy uncle Tim way, and how your kindness has renewed his faith in mankind. Then he completely blows your mind and says you can have one of the three balls located somewhere nearby. most likely directly behind him. You make your choice and suddenly his whiny niece/nephew bursts in and cries until Shrub gives him/her the Pokemon yours is weakest against. which completely ruins all he said about being a kind and gentle person. I mean seriously, this kid runs in cries for thirty minutes and is rewarded with not only a pokemon, but a pokemon that if trained correctly, would f*ck the life out of yours?! WTF Shrub! You're immediately forced to battle this whiny little bitch, and when you inevitably rub his face in the proverbial dirt, he'll run away crying about how you'll rue the day. After the dramatics conclude, you're handed a pokedex. And finally you're ready to begin your mission. Because for no explicable reason, You want to be the very best. That no one ever was!
