Animation Transition from car to foot

In GTA IV I found it very choppy and annoying when I was being chased by police and I had to get out of the car and make a run for it. I found the transition between opening the door and running very annoying. There would be a slight pause as he's getting out. It's a very subtle annoyance, but It was noticeably annoying if I'm trying to get away on foot. Anyone else?

Yeah. I hope they improve the animations for getting into a moving car as well. In IV it's the same animation as getting into a stationary vehicle, but Niko's foot just slides along the asphalt. Very weird. I think now if you're jacking a slow-moving vehicle, the character should run alongside, opening the door. The car should only come to a stop when the driver's had sufficient time to respond to the threat.

Getting in the helicopter during police chases was incredibly annoying. That slow, careful sidling into the seat. Sometimes he'd just hold the door and stand there a damn eternity.

Yes, it gives chasers the time to shoot you a couple of bullets in the head. Even when not-chased, having to wait that couple of seconds was still annoying to me. I wonder if speeding up the transition would feel too arcade-y now.

I did this same topic a bit ago, and God I couldnt agree more, Theres nothing more frustrating than watching your character slowly get out of his car as a cop is blasting him in the face with a shotty.

Sneakerhead.

On multiplayer, someimes when my friend wants me to get n the car with him, my character would open the door and just stand there.

It pisses me off when this happens, especially when cops are chasing us and I need to get in the car and speed off, only to have my character f*ck it up and get killed. suicidal.gif

Red Dead Redemption, problem was not present. Will be fixed, alongside the on-foot physics overhaul, as the on-foot physics were terrible

have an option to rapid press "open" to speed it up a bit, like how running is handled, that would be nice, or a perk for multiplayer like in Max Payne 3 to speed up the process.

Animations of the protagonist should go much faster when getting in trouble like many enemies around you or police chasing you. You know, the protagonist should feel nervous and doesn't care about safety. Annoying thing when I once played GTA4 was when I was chased with 4 star wanted, Niko fell on ground, stood slowly up and checked + cleaned his suit a bit. Lol seriously...

The speed in normal situations is ok. Maybe if you are in hurry for some reason there should be a rapid tap feature where you can tap the car enter key rapidly to make the protagonist enter the car faster than normal or for fast standing up after falling maybe pressing jump button.

I hope that R* makes a little function for the protagonists, like feelings of situation, getting nervous of some situations and so on... making them act different than normally. Maybe when the protagonist feels angry he can resist more bullets and go on rage very easy. You know what I mean? But that is a bit off topic - still good idea.

The 'run' button is redundant when jacking a car. So why not have holding 'A' or 'X' make the process quicker?

There are alot of little things that would make these situations play better.

It should be possible to run alongside a motorcycle as you mount it, kind of like a push start. This way you are not stationary as you start the bike making you a bullet sponge.

In IV when hot wiring a car niko would duck a little bit but not enough to avoid gun fire. You should be able to duck more dramatically while hot wiring a vehicle.

When exiting a vehicle in IV the animation of getting out of the car and closing the car door were sequential. While you could interrupt the sequence so that you run instead of close the door, the fact that the exiting animation tied into the door closing animation is what caused this brief delay. There should be a seperate animation all together that can be forced when tapping X or A. Thus having the player burst out the door into a full sprint or even have him duck and roll.

The great thing about VC was the ability to drop kick a guy off a motorcycle and steal his bike. Not only did it look cool but it was very useful when trying to flee b

It would be cool if we can just jump in the cargo door and get in the pilot seat

Or the other way round. I remember thinking back when after IV came out that it would have been sweet if you could get the helicopter under control, then move on over to the back to use a weapon like say a rocket launcher. Would be cool for multiplayer.

We'd be able to do some of that stuff now of course after we saw that screen with Michael in the back, and Trevor flying. But I wonder if we'll be able to meet up like that in single-player free roam? And what will the pilot character do when you switch over to character in back? Where will he fly to - or just hover?

So many questions!

As much as I love GTA IV, I found myself working too many times around these flaws. Oh Niko, there is a cop with a shotgun shooting through the backwindow because your car crashed and the left door is blocked. Lets take the time to gently scoot over seat to seat while taking shots like a god damn shooting range target. The character should be shooting out the door tooth and nail, doing every possible thing to get out as fast as possible

ill-thoughts

Saints Row 3 had perfect car-to-foot transition, one button press and your guy would hop right out and begin to run.

actually the Movement speed of your player in SR3 i loved in general, that game is so much better than people give it credit for.

I did notice the "getting in" and "getting out" animation in IV which is defo bad... we shouldnt be noticing animations nowadays, theres no reason they are not stiched together fluidly...or even better the animation system so they are more natural and not even "stiched" in a traditional sense.

So many questions!

Agreed, so many more questions than answers!

Maybe they head towards the waypoint (custom waypoint for free-roam), but then what if you don't have a waypoint set?

This three protagonist thing sure is gonna be something else. I seriously have no idea how they are pulling it off outside of missions. Only Rockstar would go balls-out like this. So. Damn. EXCITED!
